  • "This property is nicely located on Sheeps Head not far from the village of Durrus and the market town of Bantry."

The house is very clean and extremely spacious and all the equipment worked and there was plenty of kitchen utensils, cups, plates, glasses, cutlery etc. The beds were comfortable and plenty of towels were provided in each bedroom. There is a large front garden with picnic bench for eating outside when the weather is good. All in all, an excellent location for a holiday in this part of West Cork. We would certainly return to Kiltymon Cottage in the future.

  • "Good location, lots of space, well equipped, but unfortunately filthy floors and carpets, with lots of dust"

I would totally disagree with your comments regarding the condition of the floors and carpets. My home has always been cleaned to a very high standard and at no time in the past have I received a comment like this, we take great pride in the property and receive top scores for cleanliness and comfort and this is a highly unusual review. If you felt the house was not up to standard, then this could have been brought this to the attention of the caretaker immediately during your stay and any issues you had could have been looked into. The caretaker did ask you on leaving how your stay had been and you advised that everything had been fine. Sykes Cottages also has a dedicated helpline for guests that have any concerns and we are sorry that you gave neither Sykes or the caretaker the opportunity to discuss anything during your stay. • "Lovely house in nice scenic location."

Kitchen well equipped. Kieran very pleasant and prompt. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable and would probably stay there again. One small point.....Kieran forgot to deduct the first €10 as being free from our oil and gas usage....but then again,we forgot about it too!

Hi Gerard, Glad you enjoyed your stay. I would just like to clarify that you did receive your €10 discount on your oil and electricity usage. Your total bill was €47 approx You paid €37 Please look at copy of receipt issued to you on your departure Kind Regards Mary Property Owner

  • "Holiday was brilliant."

The only problem we had was ... we were unable to take out your insurance because we needed an address in UK to do so, and as we live in Ireland this was impossible. SO ..your site not very user friendly.

  • "I did read the bad review but we had to book this cottage after the original one cancelled on us!"

The list of cleaning jobs was awful, far more than I expected and there were 3 copy’s of it as we arrived which was a bad start. Iv used holiday homes for 14/15 yrs now and have never been asked to strip beds, wash the floors and clean bathrooms. It put such a black cloud over our stay. We always leave a property tidy and wiped clean.

We have great pride in our home and it is always presented to our customers in a clean and welcoming condition. The 'list', is only a reminder to people to leave the house as you found it. I can honestly say that 99% of people do not have an issue with this. They clean and tidy as they go, as they would in their own homes. The 'list' bears no threat to these people. On the other hand, the list is a thorn in the side of the small minority of people who have no respect for our home and who leave it in a state that is not acceptable. Would you like to see bed linen left on the ground, delph and cutlery on the draining board, empty shopping crates outside your door. That is just a synopsis of the condition my home was left in after the departure of the Talbot family. I will not apologise for asking people to respect our home. Property Owner

  • "A spacious house, in a great location, which suited our large family party."

We loved to be able to have a walk right from the front door, and the view from the upper floor to the bay was beautiful. The cleaning list (in triplicate!) went too far, I've never come across such a comprehensive cleaning list in all my years renting self catering accommodation. Besides being off-putting, it gives the impression cleanliness of the house may depend on previous occupants. Saying that, the house was very clean. The house was well furnished, too, nothing extra to make it homely, though (and no DVDs, games, books, puzzles if families need rainy day entertainment). With room for 8 to sleep, it would have been nice to have a dining table for 8, too, but we managed to rearrange with furniture from the kitchen to fit us all around the table. All in all we had a lovely time, and would consider coming back if we were to visit the area again.

  • "The photographs do not do the location of this house any justice."

The drive from Durrus is a beautiful scenic drive along the coast with mountains in the distance. There are gorgeous views of the bay from the front bedroom windows. Whilst there we visited the local bar/restaurant, Arundels. The food was delicious and our 1 year enjoyed playing in the play park while we finished off our food. There is a local art gallery and coffee shop within walking distance too. The house had all the necessities and no more. We stayed here with our 3 kids. 13, 10 and 1. While they each had their own double room they were stuck a few times for things to do. There's a set of swings outside and a large garden but no toys at all inside and no selection of DVD's as stated. Although not always necessary in holiday rentals, a BBQ would have been lovely too. The wifi was good and Sky TV provided some freeview channels. We appreciate the fact that this is someones house and that while staying there we have a responsibility to keep it clean and tidy but the to-do list stuck on the fridge was going abit far. When you go on holiday the last thing you want is to be given a list of chores like moping the floors, cleaning the oven, fridge and bathrooms!! Also, don't forget to keep some Euro's for the electricity. You will need to pay the caretaker (who was lovely) upon departure.

  • "Lovely location beautiful part of Ireland."

What was in the home was good quality it lacked any warmth or cosyiness. The rooms were functional, they had no feel. There was a wonderful artist within a mile of the property, afew of her paintings on the walls would of made a wonderful difference for example. The boiler broke down on the Sunday due to a young bird had built a nest in the outside flu. The caretaker was wonderful in organising a heating engineer very quickly to sort it, full marks to him
