  • "We very much enjoyed exploring the south of Ireland from this location."

Durrus was a small village that felt homey. This is a quaint lodging with all amenities for folks who want to spend a few days.

  • "This is a lovely house in a great location for exploring West Cork."

Help was available whenever needed. The house was spotless and well equipped - I felt respected as a customer and I would definitely recommend No 1 The Courtyard. The only downside for me was that none of the three pubs in the village allowed dogs - why is this? One in particular was downright hostile and left me feeling unexpectedly upset afterwards. This is absolutely NOT the responsibility of Sykes Cottages - but isn't it time that as a country we were more considerate of dog owners in bars, restaurants and shops? If one can do it, then all of them can. Other countries are far more relaxed about this.

  • "A very comfortable and well-equipped cottage in the perfect location to make the most of all that this beautiful part of Ireland has to offer."

There are a couple of pubs within a minute's walk, one of which serves good food. For a wider choice of bars and restaurants, Bantry is a short drive away, with Glengarriff a bit further on. I would recommend this place to family and friends.

  • "The property was spotless and the fit-out excellent."

Very dog friendly. More important the selection of toys available for a 5 year old meant rain was not a problem

  • "Very convenient location, lovely conservatory, comfortable beds, gorgeous views out the back."

Windows need a good cleaning. Trash baskets are needed in bedrooms and bathrooms. Hooks needed in bathrooms for robes, etc.

  • "Lovely little house with a charming garden."

Very comfortable and cosy but also bright. The conservatory is a nice bonus. The kitchen very well equipped with everything you can imagine. The fantastic surprise for us, with a two year old was the toy cupboard stocked with toys, games, bag of dinosaurs. He was entranced for a week! The house feels well loved, lots of great books, games etc. only suggestion is that the oven smoked so that and the air fryer need a good clean

  • "Beautifully presented and equipped house with a wonderful mature garden that leads your eyes to spectacular views up green hills and on to the mountains."

The owners provide clear instructions on all the technical aspects of the house with illustrations - we loved this attention to detail. The linen is high quality and the towels are plentiful and fluffy. The beds are comfortable and the whole house really works well. We stayed for two weeks and liked it so much we came back for another four weeks while ewe waited for our own house purchase to complete. The TV features all the streamers and a great package of terrestrial programming and the wifi was fast enough for us to run Zoom and Teams meetings while streaming Netflix. The house is well located with three pubs, a cafe and convenience store within 2 minutes walk with a number of beautiful scenic walks accessible from the village. Highly recommend this house for couples or families.

  • "Property is fantastic!"

You’ve thought of everything - so comfortable and well appointed. We loved it Just one tiny comment - the front door and postbox look in need of a little paint touch up - first impression of the property suggested some TLC needed which is not the case at all once you’re inside. Thankyou for such a wonderful stay .

About the location

DURRUS, COUNTY CORK

Bantry 10 miles; Glengariff 17 miles; Skibereen 16 miles.

Durrus is a village located at the head of Dunmanus Bay on what is called the Friendly Cove, on one of the most unspoilt coasts in Ireland, in West Cork, six miles from Bantry in County Cork. The village is the gateway to the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head peninsulas, a haven for walkers, hikers and cyclists, showcasing some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery that Ireland has to offer. Durrus has recently been announced as a key staging post on the new Wild Atlantic Way driving route which will help tourists to explore the Irish coastline from the Inishowen peninsula in Donegal to Kinsale in County Cork. There are a number of public gardens established in the area, including Cois Abhann and Kilvarock. Durrus also benefits from a good selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes offering excellent food and traditional music through the year. Bantry is just a 20 minute drive away, and is a town of sweeping sea views and varied colourful buildings. It is home to a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants ideal for dining out or for experiencing local Irish music and culture. Bantry House is well worth a visit, sitting in an elevated position above the town and being home to a rich collection of tapestries, furniture and art, while there are also beautiful gardens to explore, which have been restored and are open to the public.
