  • "Smelt damp on arrival."

Hob didn't work, replaced with a portable 2 ring unit. TV not working, owner was aware of this. Not enough plates and mugs for 3 people. Drainage from shower was very very slow. The whole property needs updating.

  • "Provides great access to a beautiful region, you could never tire of the scenery."

The accommodation is 'tired', ready for an uplift, in a very remote location, which may be part of its charm.

  • "Stench from drains was dreadful - owner clearly aware of problem."

Not advised Shower not working before we arrived. We reported very poor internet service on days 1, 2& 3, we complained, it improved day 4 then no further signal for rest of 2 week stay. Son said owner likely to not have paid weekly bill! Several cigarette burns on Kitchen work surfaces. No kitchen kick boards on units, filthy under units. Poor quality bed linen, shabby curtains. internal window frames and all external woodwork very poorly maintained, in some cases rotted away. No outside furniture avail on arrival. Relieved to leave. My advice, book another cottage elsewhere.

It was a perfect location for exploring West Cork and a very cosy cottage to return to when the rain started.

  • "Our 8 night stay in 'The Chocolate Box ' was interesting."

I telephoned the owner on our day of arrival to be informed that we would not be able to access the premises until 4pm and not 3pm as was stated in our contract. The written directions, provided by Sykes, were useless. Over the phone I asked the owner for directions to the property. Her directions, at best, were esoteric, confused and unhelpful. We are proprietors of self catering flats and had we offered a similar service we would certainly have been expecting complaints

The cottage was brilliant apart from the steps down to one of the bedrooms which we were not told about it wouldn't have mattered but my brother uses a walker so it was abit awkward and we were told it was all on one level but apart from that the place was fantastic and the host were lovely people
