  • "The property was excellent, arrived to home made soda bread and scones."

Only downside if you can call it that is the fact there was loads of food there and we had done a big shop before we got there , after reading make sure nothing is left..a bit misleading . Overall great..

  • "A delightful comfortable cottage in the countryside!"

We made the possible mistake of stocking up at the Tesco store in Abbeyfeale before arriving but the cottage was well stocked with fresh bread and milk and all the ingredients for a full Irish breakfast. A bit lacking on instructions - how does the recycling work, what goes in what bin etc. - and some local info such as doctors' and taxi phone contact, local shops, restaurants (eg Gapo's in Listowel) etc could be useful. We would be very happy to return!

  • "This is a lovely, comfortable, spacious home."

We were able to drive to the Cliffs of Moher one day, and Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry the next. The only small inconvenience was that the fridge was just a mini fridge, which made it hard to stock up on food for a family of four.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and were really impressed and delighted with the huge amount of food and beautiful fresh homemade bread left waiting for us."

Like other people have said I did miss having a dishwasher and Wi-Fi and an en-suite in the main bedroom would also have been a bonus in the mornings! There were plenty of towels and toiletries though couldn’t find spare bed linen but with a washer and dryer that wasn’t really a problem. Would we stay here again? Absolutely.

  • "We are seconding the positive remarks in the other reviews."

Any deductions are to do with relatively minor matters. If people can manage without house Wi-Fi and a dishwasher (which we wouldn't have used anyway) then it's a well maintained comfortable bungalow in a quiet and convenient location to access West Limerick and North Kerry.

  • "Fantastic place to stay, really enjoyed ourselves."

Nice and quiet location, bungalow has excellent facilities and the food left as a welcome was an unexpected delight. Highly recommended. Just the two of us so one bathroom no problem but useful to have an en-suite, or good planning, for large groups. We took a bit of time to work out how the hot water was provided to sinks so a note about that in a welcome pack might be an idea. We were surprised how we missed having WiFi for planning trips even though we knew it was not available so worth consideration in future. All that said we would be back in a flash of we could.

  • "What a beautiful cottage, so spacious and secluded!"

So so peaceful and perfect for 5 - 6 people! Everything was provided in the cottage, cutlery and extras in the kitchen area and toiletries and cleaning products in the bathroom which was so handy! Everything from an iron to a vacuum cleaner was provided! Handy with so many of us to maintain the cleanliness. Even left fresh bread, scones, eggs and many more items on our arrival. The only feedback I would leave is that items of food left in the fridge were not halal, so an option for vegetarians would have been nice but that’s a very minor opinion I’d say, not something that would make me not want to book again! Already looking for dates for the next time I visit. Thank you once again!

.y algo para comer en la nevera.. El lugar recóndito y adorable pero muy bien comunicado. Pudimos ver paisajes increibles. Recomiendo acercarse a Ballybunion, un entorno con acantilados y playa no muy lejos.

  • "The house was wonderful."

We were so excited when we arrived. The house smelled so fresh and clean. The baked goodies waiting for us were amazing. We enjoyed how peaceful it was. It was off the beaten path but made a good place for us to explore Ireland in that area. We brought our moms so I felt a home would be best for them rather than a hotel. WE loved sitting outside on the back porch in the mornings and evenings. Thank you so much!!

  • "The cottage accommodation is every bit as good as the previous reviews, worth all 5*'s and a real home from home."

If like me you have a long drive, be assured that you will arrive to a clean warm comfortable home with a more than adequate welcome pack, way beyond what we expected. The patio is a real sun trap for your morning cuppa. I was visiting Ireland to catch up with family. My travels took me to Cork, Limerick and Kerry, and I even fitted in some sightseeing. Trying to find just the right location was difficult, but this proved to be just perfect. We managed fine without Wifi - as the phone signal was very good, but it would have been a nice to have if it had been available. I hope to come back again one day!

Welcome pack in the cottage was very generous, and we were grateful for the starter fuel pack for the wood/peat burner. The property has everything that you could possibly need for a homely stay, and we were blessed with fabulous warm weather, although if you have normal March Irish weather, you'd be grateful for the the warm and cosy home. A perfect home from home, and one we shall use again at some future date

  • "After a long journey, it was a wonderful surprise to find freshly baked Irish bread and scones, together with a well stocked fridge with all necessary items for a full Irish breakfast; tea, coffee, chocolate, even a bottle of wine."

Thank you so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness. The cottage was spotless and well appointed with everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable family break. The cottage is in a rural area but connected via a well maintained, surfaced road to the main road. This meant that we were able to take advantage of the location right on the border between Limerick and Kerry and enjoy sight-seeing within this beautiful area. Adare, The Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, Limerick and Cashel are all within easy reach. We were also able to cast some films from our tablet onto the t.v and make use of the strong telephone signal meaning that for us (2 adults: 2 children) lack of Wi-Fi was no issue on some of the rainier February days. In summary: rural peace but well connected. Even a small convenience shop and very good Chinese in the local village! Perfect. Thank you.

We also enjoyed the cake, scones, wine, milk, bread and loads of food items left for us so thoughtful. I highly recommend staying here. It is right in the country away from towns and cities, but only a couple of hours from Limerick and the beautiful coast. I would also like to say the housekeeper was so kind in forwarding a birthday card that arrived after we had gone home.

  • "Direen Cottage is a very well appointed cottage which was so clean and fresh."

Sleeps 6 comfortably with super comfy beds. Outdoors there is seating with a bbq and lots of space in the private garden. On arrival we found the fridge and kitchen stocked with all the makings of an Irish breakfast, along with fresh baked wheaten bread, scones and fresh fruit. We have never had the likes of this at any other self catering property we've stayed at. There was also a supply of turf for the stove! The house is equipped with all you could need, however the absence of WiFi was felt -especially by our kids! Thankfully there was very good 4G signal at the location from our network providers. The location itself is a little removed - 20 min drive to Listowel. Athea itself is a very small village with little amenities. But we used Direen Cottage as a base for exploring North Kerry as far down as Dingle, along with West Limerick and Co. Claire (a car ferry is located 20 mins away in Tarbert for trips to Kilrush & Kilkee) All in all, a great little base for travelling around this area, which is stunning in itself!

I have never stayed in a house so clean. Every room was beautifully decorated, beds very comfortable. Living was fab. We came home wanting to re-decorate our own house. The garden was also very tidy - patio was lovely and caught the evening sun. It is a property I would highly recommend for anyone to stay. Most activities or towns were within 15km of the house. We missed having a dishwasher and really missed wifi. This is why I havent given it 5 stars.

Limerick . The house was extremely comfortable and clean. And with three young kids there was a safe garden for the kids to play in. Upon arrival there was a welcome pack of fresh scones , bread, milk and rashers etc , this was a brilliant idea. Every thing from the booking , to the accommodation to correspondence from Hogan Cottages has been 100%. Would definitely recommend and I can see is rebooking in the future.

The house has loads of safe outdoor space for children to play. The house was spotlessly clean and we must give special thanks to our host who couldn't have done more for us.
