  • "The cottage was perfect for the two of us."

Peter, the owner was very welcoming and even provided us with everything for afternoon tea with cakes! The “icing on the cake” for us was the beautiful garden. It was so tranquil and relaxing, with a wonderful view. I could have stayed forever, I loved it so much! We look forward to going back again soon.

  • "Thank you so much for our stay at the cottage."

All facilities at the house worked perfectly. We were warm and cozy on rainy days and basked in the sun in the beautiful, back yard when it was clear. The beds were just the right firmness and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. Thanks too, for the milk and tea cakes - they were delicious. We will look forward to staying again next time in Kerry.

  • "I had a wonderful stay at Brendan's Cottage - a very genuine old Kerry cottage once lived in by Brendan, the owner's uncle."

The host lived opposite so was on hand but unobtrusive so travelling alone I felt very safe. I loved everything about this stay - the garden was a hidden gem and the family of cats up the road so sweet. From my bed I could see the sea and the mountains. Valentia Island is so beautiful and on my last day I found the family farm where my great great grandfather came from - with a view of the Skelligs! I was very sad to leave Valentia Island but I will be back to stay at Brendan's Cottage!

  • "Brendan's cottage is a charming cottage, with an enchanting garden."

It has an old world atmosphere, but all the necessary mod cons and more We had a great week there. Peter the owner is so welcoming and friendly. It was a pleasure having a few conversations with him, about the weather and the locality. It is a great base for touring the iveragh peninsula, and also for hill walking, tracks and trails. You could do a different hike every day for a month and not have to travel more than 20 miles. Looking forward to our next visit to Kerry. Thanks again to Peter for the loan of his lovely cottage Couldn't recommend higher

  • "Peter, the owner of Brendan's cottage, seemed like a nice man and was quick to respond whenever we had questions or problems, which we really appreciated."

That said, the cottage had lots of quirks. The most stressful quirk for us was that we were being charged for all the gas heating and electricity we used while staying in the cottage, as reflected by the meter reading. (This was mentioned in the listing, but it's so unconventional that we didn't notice/understand it when we were making our booking). We stayed for six days and only ended up paying $13, so the expense wasn't bad. However, we were very anxious during our first night or two in the cottage, before we had gotten a good estimate of how quickly our energy expenses could add up. The cottage itself was kitschy, not necessarily in a bad way. It did have spots of mold in a few places. The location was beautiful, and the garden was huge and lovely. All things considered, we were happy to move on to our next bnb when we left.

Easily accessible from the Ring of Kerry by a road bridge and/or ferry boat. Valentia Island turned out to be a very interesting place of important historical significance. This is where the first cable Telegraph transmissions to North America took place, it also has prehistoric tetrapod tracks fossilised along the rocky beaches and of course you can take a boat trip to Skellig Michael to the famous filming location of the latest Star Wars movie.

KNIGHTSTOWN, COUNTY KERRY

Cahersiveen 15 miles; Kerry Airport 53 miles.

Knightstown is the main village on Valentia Island, which lies off the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. It is accessible from the mainland by ferry from Reenard Point, or via the road bridge at Portmagee. Knightstown provides restaurants and Irish pubs as well as entertainment and local shops. It is also the departure point for a variety of sightseeing boat trips and fishing trips. Take a trip to the magnificent Skellig Islands, the site of a 6th century monastic settlement, and home to a large colony of gannets and puffins. The Island is famed for its magnificent 'Fogher' sea cliffs, which rise majestically from the Atlantic Ocean on the northern side of the Island, and the subtropical gardens at Glanleam House, which are a unique delight for visitors of all ages.
