  • "A delightful typical Irish cottage settled up in the hills."

So peaceful and quiet, with a lively little stream outside the front . The only distraction being a quad bike ,a farmer ,and a sheepdog herding a flock of sheep . Only downpoint was No internet connection or viable phone reception. This was the 2nd Sykes cottage on our holiday and although we had no issues it would have been nice to have met the Host.

  • "We abandoned our stay at the cottage almost immediately."

On comparing the listing photos with the actual experience, the modern (and comfortable) looking furniture in the photo of the main living room seems to have been replaced with some old stuff, there was a shabby curtain permanently attached across the staircase (that presumably led nowhere as this is listed as a single storey dwelling) that was presumably cropped from the photos and which created a rather spooky and disturbing 'scene', especially when taken in conjunction with the prominent headshot on the wall in that room of an old woman in what appeared to be a funeral guise. Notwithstanding the premium price we paid, not for us, I'm afraid.

The cottage was cosy warm and had everything we needed. There is nothing more you could want …. A lovely remote location . Definitely recommend Ramblers rest as a perfect place to stay . Our dog “ Molly” was very happy there too. Only a 5 minute drive to Manorhamilton and we also found a lovely dog friendly Forest walk called “ Milltown woods” 10 minute drive. Also well worth the 30 minute drive to the stunning beach at Bundoran. Margaret the owner is very lovely to deal with. Thank you so much.

Well maintained and very warm, despite it being February. About 5 mins drive to Manorhamilton where there is a good supermarket and a fab Chinese takeaway.

  • "Very cozy little cottage in lovely surroundings."

Very remote, but nearest town only 10 minutes or less drive away. Loved having the log burner and open fire in the two sitting rooms, and there is central heating if you need it. The furnishings and decor are in keeping with an old rural cottage , so if you expect ultra modern perfection, pay double elsewhere. A lovely touch was a lovely open fire had been lit by the thoughtful owners just before we arrived, after a cold wet journey on motorbikes. A couple of pints of milk and a loaf of bread and spread would have made our welcome even better.

  • "Quiet and ideal for our requirements."

Lovely stone cottage glass fronted fire in one room and open fire in another not that we needed either as weather was superb. Kitchen completely kitted out with everything and lots of accessories in cupboards etc. owners of cottage kept in contact by txt to make sure we had everything we needed and met farmer and his obedient dog going to fields. Roads to cottage were in good condition. Manor Hamilton had a nice range of shops etc. catering for dietary needs for myself. Highly recommend this place to relax enjoy and if weather is good you couldn’t do any better. Outdoor area of seating and parasol was used every day and evening.

  • "When I booked the cottage I thought it was in Manorhamilton, but it is 5 miles from the town, in a beautiful spot in the countryside."

I had no phone reception and no Wi-Fi. The furnishings were all very worn and tired looking. Trash was left in the bin from the previous visitors and I questioned whether the cottage had been cleaned between bookings or not. There were no instructions on heating the cottage. I believe the persons that offer the cottage have little interest in providing good service. Thank god no emergencies occurred during my week stay.

  • "We had a brilliant time at the Ramblers Rest."

Margaret had ensured that we had everything we needed from towels to coal for the fire, we only needed to bring ourselves, clothes and what we were going to eat. The cottage is secluded and shared a lane with a working farm - the farmer was really friendly and we had sheep hearded past our front door. The whole trip was amazing - we could walk our dog up and down the country roads or take her to the beaches in Sligo, Florence Court in Enniskillen or plenty of local visitor sites/walks like Burren Park. Our dog Millie was exhausted most nights and fell asleep in front of the fire. There are lots of birds and wildlife in the area, which added an additional dimension. We would highly recommend.

It is an ideal base to explore the awe-inspiring Five Glens area of North Leitrim which is relatively undiscovered and yet epic scenery. There is so much to see that one week here is never enough. The cottage owner has managed to keep a traditional feeling to the house and surrounds while providing more comforts and homeliness than I have ever experienced in self catering holiday homes so far and I have stayed in quite a few! Definitely a hidden gem and I look forward to returning. My dog was really happy here also and did not want to leave!

  • "After many holidays in Ireland it was lovely to actually meet the owner of the cottage as this had never happened in the past."

Margaret met us on the road into Manorhamilton and it first I was confused not to meet her at the cottage, however after following her on the winding lane to the cottage it became obvious that it might not be the easiest place to direct one to. I found this a lovely gesture and her communications were very easy to follow. The cottage is great for a get away from it all experience but not that remote that there is nothing to do as Donegal, Sligo and even Northern Ireland are all within a handy half to one hours travel. We found a must to be the Glen Arts Centre in Manorhamilton with an eclectic mix of events. The sounds of the stream outside and the cosiness of an open fire were very relaxing. Overall a great holiday, great host and ample amenities.
