The Sustonica certification focuses on four key areas: energy conservation, water conservation,

recognised sustainability standard for holiday rentals and a catalyst to reduce emissions of holiday
lets and influence guests to reduce their own household consumption too.
Properties that display the Sustonica badge have successfully passed the criteria,
which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards,
and their owner has made a commitment to look after our planet as well as you.

"Bedroom with ensuite, bed was very squeaky everytime you moved the bed squeaks so we had to move bedrooms."
Shower in ensuite was hot & cold not consistent also couldn't wash your hands after using toilet as hot water tap was loose so when it turned on water went all over the place also toilet took too long to refill also missing architrave. Need new iron water leaks all over clothes plus a better ironing board. Lamp in living room doesn't work. TV in kitchen didn't work either until we fixed it also 1 hob ring doesn't work on cooker. Microwave needs replacing rusty in places very off putting. Outside bins were full when we arrived should be emptied for next visitors & hadn't been emptied while we were there. Bath extremely tight & the handles kept falling off. No information about how to use the equipment or visitors book to sign. Broken switches shoddy workmanship round doors could lead to someone tripping. Pictures online completely different to the actual house although it was sort of comfortable we were extremely disappointed in the house especially with the amount of money we paid. Needs a lot of work to do to it to bring it up to a high standard. Beautiful location lots to do & see village very friendly could do with a takeaway though. Aslo we left a day early had rung & text owner but no response.

"Gerry the owner was lovely and welcoming."
Views from the cottage of the coast were lovely. Atlantic View was private, comfortable and homely. Some issues with both showers - one was difficult to angle and soaked the ensuite floor, the other has low water pressure. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen and living room also spacious and comfortable. We bought and left a small chopping board for future guests. We had the company of a mostly white feral cat who regularly visited for a bowl of tuna in oil. Very shy and sweet.

"Gerry the owner couldnt have more helpfull , we got there early and me being a fisherman had a lot of rods on top of my car and he let me put them in a secure shed and give me the key ."
Then we went and had a look round with no worries , we went back before our time (3 oclock) but every thing was ready for us the cottage was so clean and every thing you could ask for , by the way 1 bedroom is on suite and there is a seperate bathroom not as listed so it was so comfortable for 2 oldens and a dog . Will defently go back could not thank him enough

"Atlantic View is an excellent property with great facilities."
Lovely living room, great large dining kitchen with additional seating around a wood burning stove. The kitchen has a large fridge with small top freezer, microwave, dishwasher and in the annex there is a washing machine and tumble drier. Three well finished bedrooms, one double en suite, one double and one with two single beds a cot and high chair. The main bathroom is large and is well finished. The property has oil fired heating with the ability to direct the heating to 'living area or bedrooms or just hot water', it also has an emersion heater, The owner Gerry is very friendly and helpful and in our case met us shortly after arrival and called again one morning just to see that all was well. Sykes Cottages please take note 'the directions are misleading and sent us on a wild goose chase'! The directions should read- From the R314 between Ballina and Belmullet take the last right turn as you leave the village of Ballycastle there is a brown sign for the beach 2km. Drive on this road towards the sea for approximately 0.5km . Atlantic View is on your right with a stone wall entrance and a red door. Great holiday highly recommended. Thank you Gerry.

"Lovely place, great location."
Gerry the owner was very welcoming, we had a problem with the shower which he dealt with straight away. The location is perfect for a quiet getaway, within walking distance of the beach, great views, close to amenities, happy to recommend.

"It is a lovely clean and tidy bungalow and peaceful place to have a relaxing holiday."
When I arrived, Gerry had kindly provided scones, soda bread and butter and a voucher for a nearby cafe. This was very welcoming and a lovely treat.
The house door was a different colour to the photo on the website, so at first I drove past it.
The beach is walking distance at the end of the road.
I would definitely recommend to family and friends for a holiday.

"The cottage was perfect for us."
The surrounding area and close proximity to the beach were an added bonus. Gerry the property owner was very welcoming and provided lovely bread and scones on arrival together with a voucher for the local cafe which was absolutely fantastic.

"The main problem regarding the accommodation was that the spec said there was a green door and a brown fence."
It was a red door and no fence so for 40 mins we drove around trying to find it. We could not find the place and had to ask someone we met on the road to bring us to the house not ideal with covid around. I rang the owner and did not get an answer and he did not ring back till 3 hours later. The owner was not there when we arrived to let us know where everything was. The other thing was it said it was pet friendly but there was nothing to stop the dog from getting out onto the road when we were going out so we had to leave the dog in the house which we were not supposed to do or bring him with us. The last thing was the outside was like a building site with dirty water bowls all over the place for the dog to drink from and the place in bad disrepair.

"We had a lovely stay."
The house was very clean and well appointed. We struggled a little to find it, because the door is now red and not green as described in the listing, but we got there in the end. We had a lovely relaxing break.

"The house is very cosy with everything you could need."
It’s also very spacious with a great layout. We were travelling with an 18 month old and 4 year old, and a cot and high chair were supplied. We truly had a wonderful stay, the house is a ten minute stroll down a quiet lane to the most gorgeous beach. Neighbors had chickens and ducks and were so friendly, the children had a ball. It surpassed our expectations. Gerry was kind and friendly and a pleasure to deal with. We will be back !

"The ad in the listing stated that there was surfing in the area which there wasn't."
We had to drive about 30 km for surfing which was annoying as we took cottage for that reason. Otherwise cottage was lovely but a bit remote with no supermarket near, it's about 10 klm away.

Strategically well placed along the "wild Atlantic way" and with excellent access to smaller traditional towns or bigger, more vibrant destinations, depending on what you're looking for.

"Fab location."
Great home owner who took the time to show us around the cottage, also got us a meal voucher for local restaurant which we were very grateful for! Beautiful cottage with amazing views. Lots of lovely beaches nearby, one being a few minutes walk from the property. Everything we needed was in the property, washing machine etc came in very handy! The whole family loved the trip and couldn't fault the property.

"We were pleased to find there was an en-suite shower room as well as the family bathroom."
The rooms were all an excellent size. The beach is really lovely, great for building sandcastles and no more than 10 to 15 minutes walk away. The scenery from Atlantic View is beautiful. The village of Ballycastle was again within 10 to 15 minutes walk. The local people were all very helpful and friendly. Gerry was also very helpful and easy to get hold of. We would certainly recommend Atlantic View.

"I really enjoyed the holiday."
The house was quite spacious and had absolutely everything you could need for a very comfortable stay. It was in a beautiful location with the Atlantic ocean on view from the front door and the beach literally 5 mins walk away.It was in a perfect location for touring beautiful Mayo. The owner was very kind and helpful.it would be my hope to return to this property again in the future.

"Great location with the beach just down the road, our dog Ozzy loved it, the house has everything you need, i use a wheelchair and with the aid of our own ramps to get up the front steps the house is easy to get around,
Mr collins the owner was more than helpful with anything you need, i would go back to the house at the drop of a hat,we had a great time."

The quaint village of Ballycastle is located near the beautiful rugged coastline of north Mayo, and is superbly situated just a short distance from Downpatrick Head, one of the main points of interest on the Wild Atlantic Way. The lovely Stags of Broadhaven, 600 million year old rocky islets are located a few miles further west. Ballycastle is a small but thriving village, an easy drive from the lively towns of Ballina, Crossmolina and Killala, where the 12.5km "Monasteries of the Moy" cycling greenway is open to Ballina. The ancestry and heritage of the local area can be experienced at the Ceide Fields Centre, where you can visit the Interpretative Centre set beside one of the world’s oldest Stone Age monuments. The spectacular cliffs at Ceide reach 365 metres and offer sensational, panoramic views, while the wider area also offers an abundance of splendid sandy beaches. The coastal waters around Ballycastle are becoming increasingly popular for scuba diving and other water activities, however if you prefer a more relaxing coastal holiday, the sandy beaches are ideal for a leisurely stroll.
