  • "Large spacious bungalow."

. Nice walk to beach . Quiet scenic location ..quick response to problem with tv ..lovely lady who met us at bungalow..only minor point no signage for name of bungalow enjoyable holiday with rare sunshine for ireland

  • "House was in a great location a few yards from the beach."

It was very spacious and comfortable. Quite a few of the light bulbs need replacing and the hot water is extremely hot although there are notices saying this by all taps. Scalding could easily happen. As it was mid June we did not pay extra for heating but on the unusually (for June) chilly mornings and evenings the house was uncomfortably cold with no secondary source of heating at all. The house location is excellent and enabled us to explore all areas of Mayo easily. Mary Ellen was very efficient, friendly and helpful.

  • "Fantastic location."

It was a lovely homely stay. A little remote, but houses round and about so you didn't feel on your own. Nearest shop is the garage around 4 miles on way to Belmuttel which also have shops another 3 miles along the road. House is central for many places. If you like a beach you need not go anywhere else. 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Shraigh Beach and it was ideally placed to see all the sites we wanted to see."

The cottage was well equipped with idyllic views from the main living room of the property. I would definitely return at some time in the future and would recommend this cottage as a base when visiting this part of Ireland

  • "Excellent property in a brillant location."

Mary Ellen, the Property Manager was wonderful: very helpful and friendly. The beach at the back of the property is excellent to walk on with great views of Achill Island. Found the Euro-spa Supermarket in Belmullet excellent for Shopping: Recommend trips to Portacloy Bay (favorite location), Down Patrick Head and Archill Island. This is a wonderful property, high recommended..

  • "We had a fantastic stay in this property during the Christmas period."

The house is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. It's in a stunning location and we are lucky to have family nearby. The welcome gift of milk and porter cake was a nice touch and so too were the few Christmassy decorations to make it feel homely. It was lovely to meet Mary Ellen who looks after the property and she showed us where everything was and how it all works which we really appreciated. I have no complaints whatsoever about the property, however Sykes Cottages were less than helpful when I telephoned them with a query.

Shraigh Beach is a really comfortable home away from home and the location meant that we were in the perfect place to explore the area fully - the superb beaches, Ballycroy National Park and the wild seas.

Even on a wet and windy day we were warm and cosy inside the cottage looking out to the rough stormy sea . If we are over that way again we would definitely stay there again .

  • "This house has everything you need for a relaxing holiday ."

.. The equipment is great, in the kitchen everything available, the living area generous with fireplace and a bar, the beds are very comfortable, a restful sleep guaranteed... From the house you have a fantastic view to the sea, to Achill Island... you can see beautiful rainbows over Bellmulet (we had luck and saw them many times)... you can walk to the beaches in a couple of minutes and you can enjoy romantic sunsets... At night, in clear weather, you can see the most beautiful starry sky with the Milky Way, which you can imagine. Thank you Mary for looking after us, you made us feeling like home in that beautiful house.... we will definitely be back

About the location

BELMULLET, COUNTY MAYO

Bangor Erris 12 miles.

Known as the capital of the Mullet Peninsula in the barony of Erris, the coastal town of Belmullet rests between Blacksod and Broadhaven Bays, inlets of the Atlantic Ocean, and represents the entry point to this mystical and unspoilt County Mayo headland. Although classed as a Gaeltacht (or Irish-speaking) area, English is universally used. Much of the native culture and heritage of Ireland can be experienced here, from traditional Irish music to the song and dance for which Ireland is renowned the world over. Many visitors to the area enjoy the fantastic fishing on offer, both salt and fresh water, while watersports are also popular with surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing available from the beaches locally. Welcoming and friendly, the town boasts a number of pubs, four hotels, shops and seafood restaurants, as well as a selection of festivals throughout the year. You can also visit the Gateway Leisure Park, ideal for a family day out on those rainy days with various leisure and sporting activities for the children. At the four corners of Erris you will find the Neolithic Cèide Fields, the unspoilt wilderness of Ballycroy National Park, the towering cliffs of Ceann Iorrais (Erris Head) and the final resting place of the fabled Children of Lir, the island of Inis Gluaire.
