  • "Fantastic holiday, the quality of the accommodation was 2nd to none."

Spacious, full of character, clean, and very comfortable. The description and pictures are accurate enough, aside from omitting that the property does in fact have WiFi. Also, actually being there and seeing the views first hand, is amazing. The hosts Mary and Des, are very professional, really don’t impose, but make it clear they are available for any issue. My holiday group included my elderly mother and aunt, who both have mobility issues. As the house was all level access, they were able to avail of all areas of the house and garden and relax taking in the wonderful views. We would definitely stay again.

  • "Don Ross cottage had everything we needed."

We met Des, the very friendly proprietor, nearly at the end of our stay but any query we had got answered swiftly by his wife Mary. The location is beautiful because of the view at the lake although you have to take into account that the road between the cottage and the lake can at times be rather busy. We especially liked the two seperate fireplaces, a well equipped kitchen and that the tv had all the Irish channels. And the gift basket with wine and chocolates for Pia's birthday that Des brought along when he dropped by. Particular points of interest that one could enjoy: Foxford Woollen Mills (and its café), Ballina (good athmosphere and not too big a town), the National Museum (Country Life) in Turlough and the very cosy pub and shop 'Leonards Grocery & Bar' in nearby Lahardane. Don Ross has character, it has some squeeky floorboards, but that adds to the charm of this beautiful cottage.

  • "What a great location, With a view to Mount Nephin to the left view from dinning room and a beautiful Lough from the front view from the cottage The owner kept in contact via text once a day to check everything was all ok, extremely helpful with directions."

One of my twins slept on the Sofa and he said it was extemely comforatable, also had an open fire in the lounge and a lovely snug room again with a open fire, the room also have radiators for those not fond of open fires. Make it your must to visit Laughardaun just a 5 minute drive to your left as you leave the cottage, pop in to Leonard's it really takes you back in time, so pretty and quaint, with a bar on one side and a grocery/shop on the right hand side, so beautiful. There is also another Pub called Murphys (which wasn't listed on Google maps), they allow you to bring food in from the Pizza/kebab shop next door, if Murphey's are not cooking food in the evening. There is also another convenient food store as well. Things to do, Rosscommon there is an adventure place for all ages and if you have kids from 7 upwards and all teenages and adults, this is a must Boff Boda, a great team building fun to do together to build a great bond with the family, also if you have little ones there is a waterfall with in footsteps of the car park, called Glencar just up from Sligo. If you a climber then a must to climb Croagh Patrick, this is a must, there is a path way all the way to the top and a lovely pub called Campbells at the bottom for a lovely rest, this pub is children friendly and serves food too. and also Nephin there is a pathway for Nephin, but make sure you are wearing the correct footwear and covered in moss on some parts. I cannot thank Sykes for all their help with adjustments, along the way and also the owner of the cottage 110% perfect. I will definately be booking with Sykes Cottage again. Enjoyable family get together.

Mary and Des were in contact with us and very hospitable. The bungalow was very warm and cosy. Comfortable beds and plenty of towels. It is situated in a lovely area with beautiful views. A perfect place to relax and unwind although, it is several miles to the nearest shops and places to eat. County Mayo is without a doubt a lovely part of Ireland to take a holiday. The people are so friendly.

  • "We spent Christmas week in the cottage."

The owners, Mary and Des, have been very kind, hospitable, helpful and accommodating - available to answer any queries on the phone at all times. The place is nicely furnished and additionally was decorated for the festive period; they also, following our enquiry, provided a cot and a high chair for our toddler. The house' layout is baby / toddler's friendly – very spacious, longish corridors / hallways, wooden floors - everything over one floor only. The house was very warm, with the 2 no. fire places adding extra charm to the house ambience. Also, there is Wi-Fi there, which was a nice surprise, as it is not mentioned in the house' website description. Mary and Des' house will be our first choice to consider next time we plan our holidays in the area
