  • "A beautiful house located an easy 10 min walk from Dungarvan town with its abundance of restaurants and pubs."

We were a party of 10 (aged 17 to 80) who thoroughly enjoyed our week in Co. Waterford. The house and gardens were spacious, comfortable, fully equipped and spotlessly clean. A fully equipped BBQ area looking over the estuary was magical. Brian, our host was very welcoming and on hand, yet very discreet nor intrusive. The welcoming touches of fruit and cake were very much appreciated. The beds were very comfortable and each room had an en suite stocked with plenty of towels. My dad celebrated his 80th birthday during the week. Brian and Marie kindly left a card and bottle of prosecco for him. I have to say that this is one of the nicest houses we have ever rented for our family holiday. Dungarvan town is really lovely with plenty of things to do for all ages, from the large children's park just 10 min walk away to the Greenway cycle to Waterford city to the historic town of nearby Lismore, the beautiful villages around and plenty of stunning beaches along the coast. It truly was a fantastic week and we were blessed with the weather which always helps in Ireland. I would highly recommend Cairbre House for your family holiday and hopefully we will be back again soon.

  • "We are just back from the most wonderful holiday in Cairbre House ."

We went as a family group of 8 adults and 3 children, and from the moment we arrived , we felt completely at home and relaxed. We met Brian and Marie when we arrived, and Brian gave us a tour of the house and gardens , which is just beautiful. The garden was perfect for us with young children as it is fully enclosed, and we had wonderful meals at the bbq area overlooking the estuary, which was ever changing, and we really enjoyed our meals in the beautiful dining room. Some of our group rented bikes, very local, and access to the greenway is very close to the house. There are some really nice pubs and restaurants in Dungarvan, which again is a short walk , very easy and safe . Brian had a wonderful pack for us on arrival, lovely cakes and biscuits, and had thoughtfully left firelogs. Even though the weather was lovely, we couldn’t resist lighting the occasional fire in the evening, having a chat. We had the most wonderful holiday, don’t miss a trip to beautiful MAhon falls, so much to do. We were very sad to leave, and can’t wait to return.

  • "Our family of 6 loved Cairbre House."

The owner Brian was very good to deal with. The house itself is a beautiful old building with lots of character. It was formerly a bed and breakfast establishment and the owner lives in the end of the building as described in the house details. The gardens are extensive and our children loved playing in them. There are shops, pubs and a playground about 5 minutes walk away. The centre of dungarvan is about a 15 minute walk or a few minutes drive. Everything we needed was provided in this house.

  • "We had a week-long family reunion in Cairbre House at the end of June."

The house is perfect for families or a group of friends. The owners Brian and Marie who are great hosts greeted us on arrival and were available to consult when required during our stay. The house which is old worldly and full of character is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by water on the estuary of the River Colligan. The river is tidal so the water levels keep changing. The bedrooms all of which are en-suite are large and full of light. The beds were very comfortable. The sitting room is spacious bright and cosy. The dining room is spacious with a large table which seats ten. There is a beautiful rose garden with benches to sit on to the front of the house. The back garden which in divided into two sections has a gas BBQ in the lower section which we used on a few occasions. There is ample seating for large groups in both sections. There is a toilet with shower just inside the back door which is very convenient to access from the garden It is a short walk across the park to Dungarvan town centre which is a beautiful harbour town and has a good variety of restaurants and pubs. We dined in the Moorings on two occasions and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. On the recommendation of our host Brian, we visited Minnies lounge bar which is a very short walk from Cairbre house and we enjoyed the live music. The house is very convenient to the Dungarvan/Waterford Greenway. Six from our group cycled on the greenway. Four of the group who rarely cycle hired electric bikes and enjoyed the safety of the Greenway. We enjoyed our visits to the neighbouring towns and sights such as Youghal, Cobh, Spike Island, Ring, Lismore and the Copper Coast. I would whole heartly recommend this house for its old worldly charm, its beautiful location on the estuary and its nearness to the town centre and the Waterford Greenway. John McGlynn - July 2024

Being solidly built, the walls are immense, so the sound is absorbed, making the whole experience so peaceful, with every window view majestic. Brian is a kindly host and more like a family member in terms of warm welcome and generosity, even to sharing the spoils of the kitchen garden. Absolutely everything was thoughtfully provided. • "Oh my, where do even start?"

Firstly, Brian and Marie are amazing hosts and incredibly generous with nothing being too much trouble!! And I do mean that…they picked our group of five ladies from the bus stop so they wouldn’t have to walk the 15 minutes with their bags, they let the Nissan car rental drop the car off for us a day ahead of time and kept the paperwork and key safe, and then Brian even dropped my payment for the car off for me!!! Brian was always on hand for every little thing…how to open the window, fix a thing, answer questions, give the local history, tell us where to find live music and good eats!!! Couldn’t have asked for a better host!!! Our group was seven women and there was room for us all!! Admittedly, we didn’t cook at all…preferred to have a substantial lunch out and pick in the evenings. We did make good use of the lounge and dining room…and of course we spent loads of time sunning ourselves (we had the MOST AMAZING WEATHER ALL WEEK!!) in both the front and back gardens. The table and chairs are very comfortable. As for distance to town, it’s a 15 minute walk in to town, but if you need to drive, there’s plenty of parking. You’ll pass the seal on the surfboard out in the estuary which could be seen most days. Don’t miss The Local for afternoon eats….fantastic food, and live music in the evenings….stop by and ask them which nights. If you’re looking for a great place to stay with a large group…you’ve found it! We had a wonderful time and found the house a home from home. (THANK YOU Brian and Marie!!)

The bedrooms (all en suite) had very comfortable beds and the living space downstairs is ideal for a larger family or group. As well as the kitchen there is a utility room with a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The sitting room has an open fire – fortunately we did not need this in July but it would be lovely and cosy in the colder months. Brian the owner is very friendly and always able to answer any questions. He is often to be seen hard at work in the beautiful gardens. We loved sitting outside and enjoying the wonderful view over the estuary. When the tide is in it comes right up to the garden wall and when it is out there are lots of different types of birds to spot (handy identification posters as you go out of the back door!) and sometimes seals. Cairbre House is on the outskirts of Dungarvan but it is a very easy walk into the town centre which has a good range of shops and restaurants. This is a lovely part of Ireland and there are lots of ways to enjoy the scenery - we hired bikes and cycled along the Waterford Greenway, walked out onto the Cunnigar Spit, took a trip on the Waterford Suir Valley Railway and drove into the Comeragh Mountains to take the trail up to the Mahon Falls. The property

Located on the shores of the Colligan River estuary and set in the colourful harbour town of Dungarvan, nestled within beautiful County Waterford in Ireland, is Cairbre House.

This listed building is steeped in history, dating back to 1819, it enjoys a traditional feel inside, perfect for large groups of friends and families looking to explore all the treasures of the surrounding area.

For at least the past 100 years this house, formally once part of the Duke of Devonshire's Waterford Estate, played host to an award-winning bed and breakfast.

It now retains much of its character and charm, from the pretty climbers cascading up the exterior, to the sash windows and country-style décor.

The cottage opens up into a hallway and through to the reception room with a luxurious chaise-longue.

A fully equipped kitchen is accompanied by a large dining room and utility with washing facilities, whilst the sitting room boasts a cosy open fire set within a beautiful mantelpiece.

Each of the bedrooms boast a traditional style, with en-suite shower facilities to refresh you each morning, with the first floor bedrooms, kitchen and dining room overlooking the stunning one acre waterfront setting and river estuary.

There is also a wooden-clad bathroom serving the first floor bedrooms, with an additional W.C and shower conveniently located at ground floor level.

Outside, the mature gardens contain many rare and unusual plants including a rose garden which compliment the manicured lawns extending across the front and rear of the house.

A secret enclosed garden enjoys hours of fun for hide-and-seekers, with a lovely barbecue area benefitting picturesque, estuary views backed by the foothills of the Comeragh Mountains.
