"A beautiful house located an easy 10 min walk from Dungarvan town with its abundance of restaurants and pubs."
We were a party of 10 (aged 17 to 80) who thoroughly enjoyed our week in Co. Waterford. The house and gardens were spacious, comfortable, fully equipped and spotlessly clean. A fully equipped BBQ area looking over the estuary was magical. Brian, our host was very welcoming and on hand, yet very discreet nor intrusive. The welcoming touches of fruit and cake were very much appreciated. The beds were very comfortable and each room had an en suite stocked with plenty of towels. My dad celebrated his 80th birthday during the week. Brian and Marie kindly left a card and bottle of prosecco for him. I have to say that this is one of the nicest houses we have ever rented for our family holiday. Dungarvan town is really lovely with plenty of things to do for all ages, from the large children's park just 10 min walk away to the Greenway cycle to Waterford city to the historic town of nearby Lismore, the beautiful villages around and plenty of stunning beaches along the coast. It truly was a fantastic week and we were blessed with the weather which always helps in Ireland. I would highly recommend Cairbre House for your family holiday and hopefully we will be back again soon.

"We are just back from the most wonderful holiday in Cairbre House ."
We went as a family group of 8 adults and 3 children, and from the moment we arrived , we felt completely at home and relaxed. We met Brian and Marie when we arrived, and Brian gave us a tour of the house and gardens , which is just beautiful. The garden was perfect for us with young children as it is fully enclosed, and we had wonderful meals at the bbq area overlooking the estuary, which was ever changing, and we really enjoyed our meals in the beautiful dining room. Some of our group rented bikes, very local, and access to the greenway is very close to the house. There are some really nice pubs and restaurants in Dungarvan, which again is a short walk , very easy and safe . Brian had a wonderful pack for us on arrival, lovely cakes and biscuits, and had thoughtfully left firelogs. Even though the weather was lovely, we couldn’t resist lighting the occasional fire in the evening, having a chat. We had the most wonderful holiday, don’t miss a trip to beautiful MAhon falls, so much to do. We were very sad to leave, and can’t wait to return.

"Our family of 6 loved Cairbre House."
The owner Brian was very good to deal with. The house itself is a beautiful old building with lots of character. It was formerly a bed and breakfast establishment and the owner lives in the end of the building as described in the house details. The gardens are extensive and our children loved playing in them. There are shops, pubs and a playground about 5 minutes walk away. The centre of dungarvan is about a 15 minute walk or a few minutes drive. Everything we needed was provided in this house.

"We had a week-long family reunion in Cairbre House at the end of June."
The house is perfect for families or a group of friends. The owners Brian and Marie who are great hosts greeted us on arrival and were available to consult when required during our stay. The house which is old worldly and full of character is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by water on the estuary of the River Colligan. The river is tidal so the water levels keep changing. The bedrooms all of which are en-suite are large and full of light. The beds were very comfortable. The sitting room is spacious bright and cosy. The dining room is spacious with a large table which seats ten. There is a beautiful rose garden with benches to sit on to the front of the house. The back garden which in divided into two sections has a gas BBQ in the lower section which we used on a few occasions. There is ample seating for large groups in both sections. There is a toilet with shower just inside the back door which is very convenient to access from the garden It is a short walk across the park to Dungarvan town centre which is a beautiful harbour town and has a good variety of restaurants and pubs. We dined in the Moorings on two occasions and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. On the recommendation of our host Brian, we visited Minnies lounge bar which is a very short walk from Cairbre house and we enjoyed the live music. The house is very convenient to the Dungarvan/Waterford Greenway. Six from our group cycled on the greenway. Four of the group who rarely cycle hired electric bikes and enjoyed the safety of the Greenway. We enjoyed our visits to the neighbouring towns and sights such as Youghal, Cobh, Spike Island, Ring, Lismore and the Copper Coast. I would whole heartly recommend this house for its old worldly charm, its beautiful location on the estuary and its nearness to the town centre and the Waterford Greenway. John McGlynn - July 2024

....8 of us holidayed, we were short of nothing, everything we needed was to hand .....the beds are so comfortable and we all slept exceptionally well. The house is situated close to shops and town, where there are loads of bars and restaurants. Brian and his wife are excellent owners of the property and nothing seemed to much trouble.... The arrival goodies were excellent.....thank you

"Owner Brian met us at our arrival with a nice Irish welcome."
He was available during our weeklong stay as well. Cairbre House easily accommodated our group of seven. Plenty of bathrooms! Clean rooms. Beautiful views of the gardens and estuary. An easy 8 minute walk to a grocery store. A pleasant 15 minute walk into Dungarvan which is a very nice town with everything one might need. Plenty of pubs!

"Brian was extremely welcoming and went above and beyond in making our stay a good one ."
We loved the house and he left fruit berries cake and biscuits for us . He also had the fire set and fuel provided . The house was spotless and so comfortable we enjoyed the gardens where Brian told us we could pick the lovely apples . Would highly recommend a stay at this house .

Susanne & Olaf

"For nostalgic, old-fashioned charm and comfort, set in the heavenly realms of rose gardens with exotic trees amongst the dramatic and continually changing estuary landscape with its own theatre of birds, fishes, and wildlife Caibre House is truly a Garden of Eden experience."
Being solidly built, the walls are immense, so the sound is absorbed, making the whole experience so peaceful, with every window view majestic. Brian is a kindly host and more like a family member in terms of warm welcome and generosity, even to sharing the spoils of the kitchen garden. Absolutely everything was thoughtfully provided. A big thank you for a great experience.
-
"What a gorgeous 200 year house."
It has obviously been a much loved home. Perfect holiday destination and Brian and Marian made us feel most welcome. We had all the space and facilities we needed and enjoyed spending time in the beautiful garden, from where we spotted otters swimming in the estuary. We would love to go back.
-
"This is possibly the best house we have stayed in."
It has everything you could possibly need for a great stay. The bedrooms have a wonderful view from every room - every bedroom is en-suite with the most comfortable beds. It is a very short walk to the center of Dungarvan which is a sweet town, even though you are close to the town, all you can hear are the birds in the ample garden. We had a big family gathering - 17 people and all fitted comfortably between the living room and dining room. Thanks to Brian and the team for making our visit so lovely.
-
"We had everything and more that we would have needed fantastic house very homely in a beautiful neighbourhood far enough away from hussle and bussle but close enough to the shops pubs restaurants etc would highly recommend to any large groups."
Thanks to Bryan the owner for a very warm welcome and seeing ous of at the end of our holiday
-
"My family & I had the most fantastic stay at Cairbre House."
It simply delivered on all fronts. The location is incredible with everything you need only a stone throw away, bars restaurants and even the Greenway! The house is a period home with so much to offer, space, charm and sea views! Every bedroom is equipped with an en suite, ideal for family or group getaway! We couldn’t recommend this guest house more and Brian offers stellar concierge service, such a kind man - he even lent us two of his bikes! Can’t wait to go back!
-
"We were given the famous warm Irish welcome when we arrived."
Everything was as described and the house was ideal for the family birthday party that we had been planning for three years. It was great to have a roaring log fire each day and Brian was always in the background to answer any questions. The situation of the property was especially convenient, a 10 minute walk to the centre of town and a short drive to a good range of facilities.
-
"Everything was as described."
Cairbre House is a fabulous place, we had a great time, not the least because of our friendly and very helpful hosts. Highly recommended!
-
"We all had a great time for a week in this house."
There were 9 of us and the house is walking distance to all the restaurants. This is especially handy when parents can escape the children for a while and grandparents can takeover. I must say Dungarvan is a foodie town, much more than anywhere in Northern Ireland. Brian was an excellent host, any issue being sorted quickly. I would recommend this house for any family wishing to get together. Adrian G
Thank you Adrian for taking the time & trouble in submitting your very positive review and recommendation for a family get together following your stay in Cairbre House. Delighted that you all enjoyed your week. Indeed you were a lovely family to have in the house and hope that you will be able to visit Dunarvan again. Property Owner

"Oh my, where do even start?"
Firstly, Brian and Marie are amazing hosts and incredibly generous with nothing being too much trouble!! And I do mean that…they picked our group of five ladies from the bus stop so they wouldn’t have to walk the 15 minutes with their bags, they let the Nissan car rental drop the car off for us a day ahead of time and kept the paperwork and key safe, and then Brian even dropped my payment for the car off for me!!! Brian was always on hand for every little thing…how to open the window, fix a thing, answer questions, give the local history, tell us where to find live music and good eats!!! Couldn’t have asked for a better host!!! Our group was seven women and there was room for us all!! Admittedly, we didn’t cook at all…preferred to have a substantial lunch out and pick in the evenings. We did make good use of the lounge and dining room…and of course we spent loads of time sunning ourselves (we had the MOST AMAZING WEATHER ALL WEEK!!) in both the front and back gardens. The table and chairs are very comfortable. As for distance to town, it’s a 15 minute walk in to town, but if you need to drive, there’s plenty of parking. You’ll pass the seal on the surfboard out in the estuary which could be seen most days. Don’t miss The Local for afternoon eats….fantastic food, and live music in the evenings….stop by and ask them which nights. If you’re looking for a great place to stay with a large group…you’ve found it! We had a wonderful time and found the house a home from home. (THANK YOU Brian and Marie!!)
Thank you Jackie for taking the time & effort in posting your very complementary review. Delighted that you all enjoyed your week so much in Cairbre House & Dungarvan, you were lovely guests to have in the house. Property Owner

"A lovely period house in a wonderful location."
It was perfect for our family gathering with plenty of space and facilities for all of us. The children particularly enjoyed the gardens and the weather allowed us to enjoy the barbeque beside the estuary. Brian made us very welcome, we felt "at home" staright away, and he was always available to resolve any queries. Overall, a unique and enjoyable holiday.
Thank you Pat for your very positive review. Really delighted that yourself & all the extended family appreciated and enjoyed your stay in Cairbre House so much. Marie & I would love to welcome you back on some future occasion. Property Owner

"A little gem of a place to stay."
9 of us used Cairbre House as a base for a motorcycling tour of Southern Ireland. The house is a lovely and spacious older property full of charm and the gardens are perfect for relaxing. You can easily walk into Dungarvan for provisions, a meal or drink. The House and location are perfect for a family/group and you will not be disappointed if you are fortunate enough to spend a week there.
Thank you for your very positive review ,100% rating & recommendation to future guests following your stay in Cairbre .House. Delighted that you all really enjoyed your visit to Dungarvan .much." DDDungarvaumuch Property Owner

"It was such a pleasure to spend a week in this beautiful historic house, with its wonderful gardens."
The owners, Brian and Marie, achieve a perfect balance between all mod cons including WiFi, and retaining the character of a house from an earlier time. We spent lots of time in the kitchen by the aga, and in the guest lounge around the open fire. There is central heating too of course. And even though it was March, we had a sunny week and spent as much time as we could in the lovely gardens. It's so good to find a home that has character and is so obviously loved.

"Cairbre House Is absolutely gorgeous it was just like the photos so many rooms and all of them stunning we had a lovely break in Dungarvan and we would all highly recommend Cairbre House in our group we had 3 family’s and children with us the youngest was 5 the kids loved the house just as much as us We all noticed how quiet it was during the night giving us all a great sleep the lounge and dining room were great for our large group and the kitchen had everything we needed With every room having a bathroom there were no queues for the shower."
We honestly could not have asked for better accommodation It was exactly as advertised The hosts were warm and welcoming and very friendly we would not hesitate to return or recommend Cairbre House.
Delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Cairbre House, thank you so much for your very positive & comprehensive review. A sincere thank you also for leaving the house so clean, tidy and in such perfect condition - much appreciated ! You were a lovely family to have in the house and hope that you will return to Dungarvan in the future. Property Owner

"Cairbre House is the ideal location to enjoy the many attractions of Dungarvan."
It is surrounded by beautiful gargens front and rear with sea views of the Colligan river estuary which flows into Dungarvan Harbour. The house is within five minutes walking distance of the Town Centre with it's many restaurants and cafes and pubs. The house is very clean and homely with lots of facilities like a well fitted kitchen and every bedroom had it's own ensuite.and TV. Lots of room for all the family and there were lots of us staying there. We hired out ebikes from Michael Whyley's Bike & Hire Adventures and also enjoyed a night or two in the local Minnie's pub after a day of exploring many places of interes. Brian the owner is a dream to deal with I would highly recommend a stay in this beautiful House.
-
"Fantastic location."
Brian was an amazing host, the house was clean and spacious, perfect for our family reunion. We will be back!
-
"We had a great family holiday at Cairbre House."
The location is excellent as it’s so close to Dungarvan town (10 minute walk). The house is well equipped and comfortable, and gardens are beautiful. We particularly enjoyed the BBQs in the estuary garden and watching the beautiful sunsets. Brian was very helpful on our arrival showing us around and also very kindly posted our forgotten items back to us after our holiday. I would recommend Cairbre House. We had a fantastic holiday there.
-
"We had a fabulous week in Cairbre House."
The house is full of character and steeped in history. Great location for The Greenway and Dungarvan town, 5-10 minute walk from the house. Host and owner of Cairbre House, Brian, was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Will definitely return in the future.
-
"I would definitely recommend this house for your holiday."
It is a beautiful house with lots of space, great garden and in an excellent location. The owner is very welcoming. Perfect for a holiday in the Waterford area
-
"A lovely old house with an interesting history."
Clean and comfortable with beautiful gardens. Great location too, close to plenty of good beaches and The Comeragh Mountains. Also only a short walk into Dungarvan town which has plenty of decent restaurant and pubs. Brian the owner is easygoing and extremely helpful. All 4 adults and 5 children had a great week and we will definitely be back.
-
"We had a wonderful week in Cairbre House."
Fantastic heritage house set in superb gardens within 10 minutes of Dungarvan town centre. Lots of outdoor eating, greenway and local beaches. Ideal house for family groups. Brian a lovely and helpful host.
-
"The house is set in a beautiful, quiet and scenic location within walking distance of all the amenities - restaurants, pubs and shops and the idyllic harbour."
When our party of 10 arrived we were met by our friendly and knowledgeable host. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the gardens are large and well maintained, We had an extremely enjoyable week and could not recommend this house enough to others to stay in. Excellent accommodation!
-
"We had a fantastic week at Cairbre House, which has the feel of a much-loved family home."
The bedrooms (all en suite) had very comfortable beds and the living space downstairs is ideal for a larger family or group. As well as the kitchen there is a utility room with a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The sitting room has an open fire – fortunately we did not need this in July but it would be lovely and cosy in the colder months. Brian the owner is very friendly and always able to answer any questions. He is often to be seen hard at work in the beautiful gardens. We loved sitting outside and enjoying the wonderful view over the estuary. When the tide is in it comes right up to the garden wall and when it is out there are lots of different types of birds to spot (handy identification posters as you go out of the back door!) and sometimes seals. Cairbre House is on the outskirts of Dungarvan but it is a very easy walk into the town centre which has a good range of shops and restaurants. This is a lovely part of Ireland and there are lots of ways to enjoy the scenery - we hired bikes and cycled along the Waterford Greenway, walked out onto the Cunnigar Spit, took a trip on the Waterford Suir Valley Railway and drove into the Comeragh Mountains to take the trail up to the Mahon Falls. We did not have time to visit all the places that we wanted to so would love to stay at Cairbre House again.
-
"Cairbre house is in an excellent position just a short walk to Dungarvan city centre and a great base to explore other places in Southern Ireland."
The house itself has a long and varied history which is very interesting. It is large and spacious, with a lovely mature garden looking over the estuary. As it has been well loved over many years some aspects are now looking a little tired, especially in the kitchen. It is good value for large groups and we had a very pleasant holiday.
-
"Host is very friendly, reliable and ready to help."
Greetings to you Brian from Germany. The seals are the best.
-
"Our first stay in Cairbre house was amazing."
Brian was an excellent host, having him on-site was great as he was on hand to help us with anything we needed plus offers of his fayres in the greenhouse. It is obvious to see how well cared for the house and surrounding gardens are by Brian. Going on holiday in a large group it is hard to find something that suits everyone. Well we found it here. Ample bathrooms, WiFi, a pub within walking distance (and there were several), shops nearby, a nice running trail are just a few of the stipulations by our group. Staying in Cairbre house we had it all. Ps the gardens are superb in particular the “secret” estuary garden at the back. Can not recommend this place enough. Would love to stay here again. Thanks again Brian. Highly recommend, 11/10
-
"We loved Cairbre House - so full of olde worlde charm, yet very comfortable with all mod cons."
The location is idyllic, on the banks of the Colligan river, but only a 10-minute stroll away from the centre of Dungarvan. Brian was there on arrival to welcome us and show us around, and was on hand if we had any questions during our stay. Thanks, Brian, for a great holiday at Cairbre House.

"The property is in a wonderful position alongside the estuary at Dungarvan The ..."
The property is in a wonderful position alongside the estuary at Dungarvan The 200 year old house is spacious and comfortable with lovely furniture which befits its age, and represents great value for money The beautiful gardens are a tribute to the owner, Brian Just a 5 minute stroll to the lovely town which has a great choice of restaurants and pubs alongside the harbour Hope to return there soon
-
"What a fantastic location for a property!"
Right on the estuary, we were treated to seal and bird watching galore. A short walk into the beautiful town of Dungarvan with great shopping, cycling, eating and of course, the pubs - with live music every night. Brian the owner could not have been more attentive and genial. Decorated in a quaint fashion, with a really lovely, spacious garden, Cairbre House could tempt us back for a second visit (and we NEVER go anywhere twice!). Fabulous.
-
"We have just returned from our holiday at Cairbre House."
We had a wonderful stay the house is amazing the gardens beautiful. Close to all amenities and the views breath taking. Brian the owner was very kind and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back. Would most certainly recommend . Diane

"Cairbre House was home base for our extended family of 10 (ranging in age from 7 to 72) for a week in July 2019."
We enjoyed the extensive gardens (front, back, and the "secret" garden in the way back). Brian has quite the green thumb and the flowers and landscaping were just gorgeous. We had many relaxing evenings sitting out back enjoying the view with a bottle of wine or pint of Guinness. The house was spacious and comfortable for all of us, with all of the needed amenities. We appreciated the welcoming touch of breads, jams, butter, and biscuits on our arrival. The house was also conveniently stocked with laundry detergent, dishwasher tabs and dish soap. While we did our fair share of cooking in the house, we also enjoyed Dungarvan's many dining options! The house is an easy walk into town which has a great selection of pubs, cafes, and restaurants. The children (ages 7-10) really enjoyed the nearby playground and park. One day we walked to a bike rental shop and enjoyed biking on the Waterford Greenway. All in all, a wonderful home in a superb location!
-
"Had a fantastic time."
Brian was very welcoming and his house and garden were wonderful. Brill location for bbque-ing, walking cycling, chilling and bird watching. Guiness and pub music got a big thumbs up. Few probs with plumbing which was sorted but there were plenty of bathrooms to use in the meantime Thanks Brian. Will try and come again
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at Cairbre House."
Everthing we needed was provided already so we wanted for nothing only time. The house is perfectly situated to explore Waterford, Cork and Kilkenny and Dungarvan itself is a beautiful clean town. Brian was very accomodating and we loved the house and gardens and the amazing history surrounding it. Thanks. X

"We have always self catered for past 50 years and we would rate Calibre house in the top three ."
The host was excellent .
-
"House was perfect for our annual get together of friends and family."
The property gave us the rooms and space inside and out that we needed. The property felt homely and comfortable and Brian (the owner) was always available should we need him. Excellent location for access to shops, entertainment, and getting out and about. Will definitely go back as so much more to explore
-
"Really nice house Derek was a gentleman to deal with and would stay there again without question."
-
"The accommodation was excellent, clean comfortable, convenient to town, 10 minute walk."
Landlord Brian was most pleasant and helpful, always available to assist if required. Abundant supply of utensils, all in working order. Beautiful garden front and back.
-
"Landlord was very friendly and helpful."
All local facilities were just a 10 minute walk away. A quiet relaxing week was enjoyed by all.
-
"The owner, Brian lives in a self contained apartment attached to the property."
He was on hand to met us and available to offer any assistance throughout our stay. The property is good value for money, with all bedrooms having en suite facilities. The building is nearly 200 years old and formerly run as a B&B. As you would expect it is therefore not particularly modern inside but has all facilities you would expect and in good working order. Location is ideal as it is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre and on a relatively quiet road. 4 adults and 5 children had sufficient space - particularly good having a dining table we could all fit round as it seated 10.
-

The Waterford Greenway is a major attraction, this is a 26 mile long spectacular off-road cycle /walking trail on the site of a disused railway line stretching all the way from Dungarvan to Waterford City, passing through scenic countryside, crossing 3 high viaducts, a long atmospheric tunnel and 11 bridges, Opened in 2017, the Waterford Greenway starts a short 5 mins walk from Cairbre House (for visitors who have not got their own bikes there are numerous bike hire shops in town).
