  • "Everything was fine with Sea View, but there was no Sea view."

It would have been nice to have had a bigger bed. There was no instructions for any of the appliances. We had a lovely week plenty of sunshine, we have been to Ireland many times, and this was one of the best.

  • "The locality was perfect for us as I love to walk the dog first thing in the morning and to a have a beach on your doorstep is amazing."

Also close to many tourist areas such as a Johnstown castle which even allowed dogs in their cafe. We enjoyed Hook lighthouse and the ferry across to Waterford return date reasonable at€14. The living space is upstairs giving a splendid view over the countryside. The kitchen was better equipped than any cottage I have stayed in, even a coffee maker. Having a freezer was ideal fur ice blocks so we could use when going on picnics plus our dog food is frozen so made life so much easier The bed was very comfortable and shower hot and powerful. On arrival there were supplies for breakfast and lunch which was so kind even though the local shop gad anything you would need. The Indian take away was very nice. The only downside was that neither our apple or Samsung devices would connect to the internet so cost me to pay for data required but if you do not need internet the rest was perfect for the two if us and our Westie. Loads of space in the living space for the dog crate

  • "A lovely, comfortable property within close proximity to many tourist spots in Wexford including JFK Arboretum, Johnstown Estate, Hook & Kilmore Quay."

The beach and village of Fethard are minutes away also making it an excellent base to enjoy Wexford. Marie was an excellent host as well as the two lovely dogs! I would definitely recommend Sunset View if planning any trip to Wexford.

  • "All facilities operated fine without having to ask the owner how things worked, always a plus, although if Wi-Fi is important to you, then this cottage is not for you."

The wi-fi never worked at all, the only fly in the ointment. Positives: 5 stars for scenic location, comfort, cleanliness, and the well equipped kitchen, not forgetting the welcome pack on arrival (I didn't have a problem with the comfort of the settee as reported by some, or the lack of toilet roll holders or towel rails, but then I'm an adaptable single male traveller!).

  • "Accommodation was adequate, small things would have made a lot of difference."

There was no ironing board and the bed settee and chair were very uncomfortable to sit on. In fact the chair arm was broken. Having said that, the location is perfect and the welcome pack was lovely.

  • "A very comfortable property in a lovely location with rural views one side and a 5-10 minute walk to two sandy beaches the other side."

Good facilities, very comfortable bed, a tasty welcome pack and good hospitality from the owner and her two dogs. Well located for exploring the area and not too far to travel from Rosslare ferry port.

  • "We really enjoyed our Christmas stay at Sunset View Lodge and the owner and family were very nice and friendly."

This house is very comfortable and well laid out. It is also warm and all facilities worked very well. Located just outside Fethard we were very close to Carniven beach. We visited many beaches, local sights and had a great time. Thanks to all, Kirsten

  • "Amazing holiday home!"

Cozy apartment with everything you need to make your stay unforgetable . So quiet and peaceful with stunning views. Marie , the owner was so friendly to provide us with bread, butter, jam and so much more. We had a wonderful holiday in the best holiday home!

  • "Positives : Warm personal welcome extended by the owner (and those lovely dogs!"

) ‘Starter-pack’ of bread, butter, etc left in the large and extremely well-equipped kitchen. Cottage very clean. Plenty of towels supplied. Bed has a good, comfortable mattress. On return from the many chilly and damp/wet/windy days, it was good to be able to switch on the quickly effective radiators. And it’s true : the cottage really is just five minutes’ walk from the nearest beautiful beach (Carniven) — and as a bonus, the start of a coast path! Slightly less positive : First a warning — shower tray pretty slippery. No towel rails, no loo-roll holders, no hooks for (wet) coats by front door. There is a router in the cottage, but the wifi signal started to fluctuate before disappearing completely between 5pm and 6pm, reappearing very late at night. In warmer weather this wouldn’t matter at all, of course, but on our first visit to Ireland, we hadn’t realised just how cold, wet and windy it would be in late September, and just how many of these long(ish) light evenings we would therefore be spending indoors! These were our experiences ; but I imagine that all of these glitches and hitches will be quickly and easily remedied. Fethard village has all amenities, the people we met in the pub were amazingly friendly and welcoming, and all in all I would recommend this cottage as a good destination for a relaxing holiday.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Lodge very much."

The facilities and cleanliness were top class and as listed. The surrounding scenery was beautiful, particularly during the fantastic weather we experienced during our holiday. Close proximity to the beach is an added bonus. I would highly recommend this property for a staycation.

  • "We found the property to be excellent."

It was well equipped, (the only thing we could think of that would help would be a pair of oven gloves!) spacious and with tremendous views. The facilities in the village of Fethard, the nearby beaches and the many things to do in the area made for a great holiday. Being welcomed home each day by the owner's two friendly dogs was a bonus!

About the location

FETHARD-ON-SEA, COUNTY WEXFORD

Duncannon 5.5 miles; New Ross 17 miles; Waterford 31.5 miles.

Fethard-on-Sea is a village nestling to the east of the Hook Peninsula, in the south-west of lovely County Wexford. Fethard-on-Sea has a colourful history, including the lifeboat tragedy of 1914, and the Fethard-on-Sea Boycott, which has been immortalised in print and on film. Now a quiet fishing and holiday village, Fethard makes a great base to enjoy sandy beaches, shops and pubs. The Hook Peninsula continues to attract visitors due to the ancient lighthouse and a multitude of beaches. There is a beach a day for a fortnight on the Peninsula, plus there are a variety of watersports, such as diving, snorkelling and shore angling, along with painting and birdwatching. There are many interesting historical sites to visit, such as Tintern Abbey with its walled garden, guided tour and forest walk and medieval abbeys in Dunbrody and Graiguenamanagh, plus the star shaped Elizabethan Fort at Duncannon houses a military and maritime museum, and The Cockleshell Art Gallery. Head up to New Ross and visit the JFK Arboretum or the Dunbrody Famine Ship, or travel over to Waterford in the west or Wexford in the east to take in all they have to offer, from the Wexford Opera House, Johnstown Castle and The Heritage Park to Waterford Castle and Waterford Crystal.
