  • "We had such a nice stay at the Old Post Office, perfect location for working in whitehaven less than 10 minute commute, shops nearby and a pub in the village although unfortunately this was only open Thurs-Sun so we didn't get to try it out."

Plenty of shops nearby and we had a great 10k walk around the coastline and back straight from the house. The house was very well equipped, we were able to cook proper meals and had all the utensils and pans, we liked having multiple areas to sit and the garden was lovely to hang out in. The beds were particularly comfy! Slept better than at home. The low hanging lights were the only difficulty, think we all boshed heads on them at some point!!

  • "A well presented, clean and comfortable holiday cottage in a lovely village outside Whitehaven."

Beautiful walks up to St Bees lighthouse and miners cottages and a short drive down to St Bees beach. Great pub 2 mins walk away which served the best pub food I've had in a very long time. Would definitely return.

WHITEHAVEN

St Bees 2.6 miles; Ennerdale 11 miles; Loweswater 16 miles; Wasdale 19 miles; Keswick 21 miles; Bowness-on-Windermere 49.8 miles.

The West Cumbrian town of Whitehaven is situated on the coast between the sparkling sea and the Lakeland Fells. It was one of the first ‘planned’ towns in England and today can boast almost 250 Listed Georgian buildings and some beautiful parks and gardens. Today the town’s harbour is a designated conservation area and visitors can learn about the town’s history at the excellent Beacon Heritage Centre. The surrounding coastline has much to offer, not least its old smugglers villages, such as Ravenglass, and the red sandstone cliffs of pretty St Bees - now the start of Wainwright’s famous “Coast to Coast” Walk. Meanwhile inland you can enjoy the tranquillity of the Western lakes: Ennerdale, Loweswater, Crummock, Buttermere and Wastwater. Ennerdale is perhaps the most peaceful of all the lakes, with no public roads running along its National Trust owned shoreline.
