"The cottage was very clean, well equipped and in a good location with easy parking."
The only issue I have is with the stairs. I appreciate that there are several warnings both in the original information and at the cottage about their quirky nature, but in spite of this I managed to fall down a couple of steps, bruising my foot quite badly. I am sure that this is due mainly to the rope ‘handrail’ being too slack and therefore moving too much and not providing enough support. In spite of this incident we did enjoy our stay.

"We had a four day break here."
We found the house comfortable, clean and well equipped. The bonus was the private parking space which is very rare in Dawlish. The outside garden space is in need of attention although we did not use it during our stay. We would definitely stay again. Easy to walk into town and the beach.

"The property was in a lovely position and suited our needs there were just a few issues that could have been better."
The second floor bedroom window blind was broken on our arrival. We contacted the caretake, initially by text but no reply so had to phone her. She said the owners were sending a new one but she did not know when and would get back to me. Following day I had a text from her to say could she get into property to measure blind to forward this to owners so they could send new one. However looking at feedback comments at the cottage it appears the blind had been an issue for a while. We were only staying for 3 nights so this issue was not fixed by time we left. The people staying in that room had to use the cushions from the living room sofa as a way to cover the window at night - there is a street light outside the property. The bottom sheet of the first floor bedroom had some black marks on the edge of it. We also commented to the caretaker that the water tasted metallic and was that an issue in that area but got no reply. We did note there was a new kettle in the property and wondered if it was that or the water supply. We ended up buying bottled water and boiling it on the hob. Also only one toilet roll was left at the property and it would have been a nice touch to have a spare one. Having said all of this we did enjoy our stay and the cream tea, milk and bottle of water in the fridge was a very nice touch.

"We are a family of 4 - 2 adults, a 10 and 8 year old."
We have just returned form a 7 night stay in August 2024. Please be aware Old Town House is situated on a very busy road. The traffic is continuous even during the night and early mornings. We struggled to sleep through the road noise, even with all the windows shut all night Traffic noise is also loud from the kitchen and living room. I did speak to Sykes cottages before I booked our stay and was told the road was quiet, trust me it's not a quiet road! The garden is not accessible from the cottage, you have to leave through the back door and out into the parking area. It's not suitable for children to be on their in the garden and you can't dry washing outside as the garden is not secure. Also one of the garden seats was badly broken, so only enough seating for 2 people. We found all of the mattresses on the beds to be very uncomfortable. The blind in the master bedroom did not work and fell down every day. The cottage was fairly clean. We had a glass of water left next to one of the beds from previous guests, and there was a used tissue shoved down the side of a mattress on another bed. Also the photo of The Old Town House shows the whole front- this isn't the actual holiday let, its one 1/2 only. We felt very very let down by Sykes Cottages, as I raised these points on the 1st day of our holiday. No one came back to me until the last day of our holiday , thier resolution was a £17 refund from the owner and a £50 refund from them on the condition we packed up and left early. This was not acceptable for us because of our children. The nightly rate was certainly more than £67. Thier attitude to our complaint regarding the road noise and garden was shameful. It is a nice walk into the town, and Dawlish is lovely. The cottage has all the kitchen facilities required and the shower is great. However, the description and photos are not accurate, and we definitely definitely won't ever book with Sykes Cottages again.

We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you

"The property was lovely and clean ,really handy for the town centre."
It had a dedicated parking space and so we were able to leave the car and make use of the local bus and train services to get out and about .Would have liked a blind downstairs as people would look in on their way past .

"Cosy town house in good location."
Much enjoyed our stay. Furnishings lovely and house well equipped. The cream tea and milk on arrival a great touch. Problem with hot water when we arrived but promptly sorted by Louise who manages property and owners by next morning. Great location for local shops/cafes/sea/train station. Only thing, you do get people looking in the front window when they walk past as house directly on pavement.

"A cosy well maintained little property."
With parking in the area quite restricted the off road parking was a must when selecting this accommodation . The cream tea welcome was well received my our group. Only a short walk from the strand and Dawlish water area of the town enhanced our visit and we would like to thank our host for making our stay enjoyable.

"Perfect place!"
Nous avons été enchantés par ce cottage au style bien marqué et ambiance anglaise assurée. Très bien équipé, literie impeccable, propreté rien à dire, situation idéale pour le centre ville, proche de tout. Séjour réussi et adresse à retenir

"The location of this house is great for town and transport links and we liked leaving the car to walk around or catch a train."
It is quite a roomy property and has been decorated to a good standard. On arrival the property smelt unpleasant, which was strange as it had been cleaned very well and we saw the cleaners leaving. There was a strong vinegar smell (maybe a cleaning fluid) and the kids said the cushions on the sofa smelt strange (maybe needs a deeper clean? ). We left the door open for a couple of hours to help loose the smell which mainly went after 2 days stay and was the ok. The kitchen looks almost new and had every utensil necessary with plenty of pots etc. We found the little freezer o.k for our needs but is too small for larger items like pizza. Plenty of crockery and cutlery which is good and much better then many homes we have stayed in. Soaps and dishwasher cleaners provided which is also good. A good night's sleep was a bit difficult due to the very noisy road being used as a rat run at all hours and not having a deep nights sleep on the uncomfortable lumpy beds sadly. I think this property could be 5 star if a downstairs toilet could be added in the cupboard area by the front door as would be very useful, and new mattresses on beds for better sleep. We would stay again if beds more comfy. Thank you for accommodating our last minute booking. Also the company who respond to queries were extremely efficient, polite and helpful

"I had a wonderful holiday along with my family at dawling in Devon, which was from 30 August to 01september,2023."
Specifically, the accommodation with nice and comfortable with all facilities as they mentioned on their website. Therefore, I'm so happy for there nice flat with the parking facilities. Of course, I recommend to others for the flat to get as a holiday cottage, which is cool for the family.

"The property is directly on a busy/noisy (weekend especially) road."
Great access into Dawlish with plenty of lovely shops & cafes, the beach and the train station (barely used the car). Easy to get to lots of great local places/beaches. Home was immaculately clean and Louise who manages it was fantastic! Furnishings were lovely and house well equipped. Top floor was very warm, requested a fan which was delivered very next morning - fantastic service! Quite dark downstairs and people look in to front window when walking past as you are directly on road/pavement. Courtyard garden is accessed via the communal driveway so not particularly private (no drinking coffee in your pjs!) Lovely little spot in the sunshine, camping chairs provided were really useful. Some nice outdoor furniture would make it great! Probably great for families with younger children, those used to noise and those looking for access to local beaches & public transport.

"An amazing, comfortable town house in a good location."
We were grateful of the off road parking space. The property does need a freezer. Alexa was useful. I would recommend this property highly. We enjoyed the cream tea. The welcome pack was great.
-
"We had a lovely stay, The Old Town House was very clean and comfortable, easy walking into Dawlish and access to the main roads in & out of Dawlish."
The private parking was very much appreciated as the road outside was quite narrow. A small freezer in the kitchen would have been useful.

"Great little property in a great location."
Bags of character, clean and comfortable, we all slept well and enjoyed our stay. Dawlish is a lovely little town with great railway and bus services if you want to leave the car back at this property's off road parking. Very competitively priced too, mustn't forget that! Overall a solid 9/10 and would happily recommend.

"Found the stairs somewhat difficult, and had to have the lights on all the time as it was rather dark."
Otherwise it was fine. Appreciated the reserved car parking space.

"Lovely house."
It’s a good spot to have as a base to travel around from. Strangely, there wasn’t a freezer included with the fridge. We had a lovely welcome gift of scones, cream and jam, thank you.

"A really comfortable cottage ."
Excellent recent refurbishment and very well equipped . Very comfortable main bed [ we didn't use the others ] .The rear courtyard whist adjoining the residents small car park [ very handy ] , Is great as it gets the afternoon and early evening sun . My only wish would have been a nightlight on the landing, as the stairs are a bit tricky although we managed and are in our 60's

"The cottage was absolutely amazing."
Beautiful interior, spotlessly clean and so very, very comfortable. Situated in a prime spot, within easy reach of the train station where there is endless places to go seeing the stunning surroundings on the way. We are a range of ages, 21, 45, 47 and 74 and we all had a fantastic time! I would 100% revisit if next time I could take my dog, unfortunately and for good reason this isn't available at this particular cottage. Only very tiny gripe. There are 2 glass lamps in the double bedroom, they are elegant and luxurious but in a cottage so old you can't walk into the room or even roll over in bed without the constantly tinkling, easy fix, I took the glass shades off. I would 100% recommend this Beautiful place to anyone 5*.

"The cottage was lovely, we had a great time."
-
"Loved the house, very well equipped everything we needed was there found Dawlish very pleasant and clean place."
-
"The property was lovely, the owners were very helpful and we would be happy to stay again."
The bedrooms were decorated nicely and the bathroom had a great shower. It was nice to sit outside on a warm evening and easy to walk in to Dawlish for a drink later on. The kitchen could have done with a few more plates and cutlery (especially knives and teaspoons). A second large pan and a large frying pan would also have been helpful for feeding 5. Because it is a seaside property, we would also suggest a basic clothes horse that towels and wetsuits could be dried on.
