"We had a fantastic stay at the cottage and would love to come back!"
-
"The Bake House is a gem of a property, tucked away on the outskirts of a peaceful hamlet 3 or 4 miles from Chagford."
Simply put, it has a lovely, welcoming feel to it. Everything is high quality. The cottage is very well equipped, warm and cosy (the underfloor heating is great), and has been tastefully converted. The bedrooms and bathroom are a good size. The kitchen-living area is compact, great for a couple, but four adults may find it a little small. There are walks straight from the door (do visit the Scorhill Stone Circle). Chagford is charming and has everything one could wish for - a great deli, four pubs, a fruit and veg shop, traditional ironmonger's, butcher, two bakers, a good wine shop, pharmacy, two craft galleries, a selection of cafes and a superb independent bookshop. Oh, and a warm welcome from everyone one meets. We will definitely be back.

"Rachael & Allen were very kind hosts."
We had forgotten some essential things for our trip, they helped us out with this, and also when we had a problem with a car. A lovely property and location.
-
"Having spoke to Rachael she knows how very unhappy we were with the condition of the mattresses."
The mattress in the master bedroom completely worn out and needs replacing. The mattress in the smaller bedroom not much better ,also needs replacing.it was a pleasant stay the marks would have been higher the mattresses let it down.
We are disappointed with the feedback that you published & a little surprised as we have had no negative comments regarding the beds. We pride ourselves in providing a special experience for all our guests. However we have taken your concerns seriously & taken remedial action Property Owner

Looking forward to our next stay.

"Thank you Allen and Rachel for a lovely stay once more."
-
"We loved both The Bakehouse itself – beautifully laid out and very comfortable – and the location – right on the border between the moor and the wonderful web of lower paths and lanes."
Great walks in all directions straight from the front gate. Thank you for a great week, Allen & Rachel.
-

"We had a lovely peaceful stay in The Bakehouse."
Everything we needed and more and with Dartmoor right outside your front door it made for stunning walks

"I love going to The Bakehouse."
It is my favourite part of the Moor. Unfortunately I could not go with my daughters as we now have a little dog. That is the only downside
-
"Well equipped cottage."
Fantastic out of the way location. Would return.
-
"Lovely restful cottage with lots of original features with a contemporary twist."
Delightful setting nestled right on the edge of Dartmoor with lovely walks from the cottage - it did feel as though you were away from everything and could enjoy a well earned break.
-
"Very quiet and remote location."
Little traffic on lanes, great walks on moors. Owners very helpful.
-
"Very cosy cottage in quiet surroundings, with lots of walking on the doorstep."
The owners were friendly and helpful, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It might be worth mentioning in the details that the bathroom is on the ground floor, as some guest may like to know this in advance.
-
"A lovely quiet cottage with great character."
Set close to the moor, with great walks of all types, in all directions. We loved our stay.
-
"The cottage is supposed to be able to cater for 4 people, yet the downstairs accommodation is TINY and you would have to start moving the furniture around if 4 people wanted to sit at the table!"
We always go for extra space when booking a cottage (there were only 2 of us), yet even with just the two of us it felt very constrained downstairs - often we were squeezing past each other in the kitchen area. The cottage was VERY spidery - cobwebs everywhere and large harvestman spiders had to be regularly removed. If you had a fear of spiders (which I do) this would be a nightmare. A good regular vacuum using the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner would sort this out.
Thank you for your feedback. Spiders in historic houses can be a perpetual issue and we do endeavour to keep on top of it with our regular cleaning regime. We confirm that this has now been attended to and we will be more cautious in future. The cottage is compact, as mentioned on the website, yet over the last 13 years we have had positive feedback from guests, be it two or more, who have enjoyed their stay at the cottage. "If you’re looking for the quintessential cosy little cottage on Dartmoor, then look no further."
The cottage is nestled on the edge of the high moor, with great walks right on your doorstep. The walk through the fields and down the lane to the pub, with a sky full of stars was a highlight. Beautiful spot, wonderful cottage and very friendly and helpful owner. It helped that the weather was as good as it was, and returning from our walks to light the log burner, making hot chocolate and snuggling down and watching the night draw in was simply perfect.

"Its great to deal with such an efficient company - and particularly one that answers the phone within a few rings."
-
"Beautiful cottage in amazing location off the beaten track."
|Takes a long time to get anywhere!! Owners really friendly and helpful. We had a brilliant week despite decidedly changeable weather. The property is tiny - which we hadn't appreciated from the description. Despite that it's amazingly well equipped and the main bedroom upstairs is beautifully airy. Only real gripe was that it felt very dusty on arrival. We suffer with allergies and always go for a non pet friendly property so were a bit dismayed to be sneezing. However a good hoover of the sofas sorted that out.

"This is a beautifully-restored cottage in a perfect spot: remote and with walks galore on your doorstep."
It was well-equipped and was great to read about its history. The owners were very friendly and helpful and our son loved seeing the chickens being fed. The wildlife is amazing, and even on a rainy Devon day you could have coffee on the south-facing porch and stay dry and warm. We hope to be back.

"The Bakehouse is a cosy little cottage with bags of character in a lovely setting surrounded by easy moorland walking, we loved it."
One inaccuracy in your listing was the need to bring towels and tea towels, we did not need to bring them they were provided
-
"Lovely secluded cottage tucked away in Dartmoor."
Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely the place to stay if you’re looking for seclusion and s bit of piece and quiet.
-
"Lovely little cottage, full of character and with friendly owners."
Lovely location right on the edge of the moor. You have too keep an eye on young children as the stone staircase is steep and the ground floor is hard. Lovely wildlife to see right on the door.
-
"An excellent stay as always"
-
"Wonderful Property in beautiful surroundings with excellent owners."
The photos don't do it justice.
-
"Yes it was very comfortable."
The position on the edge of the Moor was marvelous and the local pub "Northmore Arms" was very welcoming. We paricularly liked the way the Bakeshouse had been restored. There was a huge attention to detail plus real art which made the cottage a joy.
-
"The Bakehouse is a beautiful cottage to stay in."
Renovated to a high standard. It is worth staying in for the fireplace alone. The cottage is set right on the edge of Dartmoor but towns are within easy driving distance. There is something for everyone be it walking, sightseeing or just staying put and enjoying the peace and quiet The Bakehouse provides. Thoroughly recommended.
-
"Perfect cottage, fantastic location, Rachel and Alan couldn’t have been more welcoming, we will definitely be back!"
-
"Flowers and food provided by owners' son, was a nice welcome touch."
Extremely quiet location, directly onto moor, with grazing sheep, ponies and cattle outside the property. Just the getaway-from-it-all we needed. We would consider returning, as the property is in a fairly accessible location for exploring much of Dartmoor and Devon.
-
"The Bakehouse has never failed to please whichever weather and season we visit."
For a true moors experience the location is perfect encompassing exposed moorland and verdant, moss swathed valleys.
