  • "We love Lavender Cottage and had a pleasant week (Aug 10 - 17, 2024)."

However...on arrival, * the dishwasher was full and still hot which meant having to do some work drying and sorting etc. * the downstairs toilet button was broken necessitating having to remove the cystern lid and flushing from the inside by depressing the flush mechanism. Not happy about this. * some of the cutlery in the draw had clearly not been washed properly and some had food clearly visible on them (photo available). This was very embarrasing as we had a friend staying with us. * the blind in the single bedroom was broken meaning it had to remain in the up position. A bedsheet had to be used to hang over the blind. We were wanting to return in October for a week but probably will not now. Very expensive cottage and beautiful etc. but we were very disappointed for the above reasons.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, so glad to hear you loved the property. However, we appreciate that there were a few hiccups on arrival. Please rest assured that this has all been brought to the attention of the Housekeeping and Maintenance Team so it can be acted upon. It is certainly not how we wish guests to find a property so we will ensure that this is rectified. We hope you will return in the future. Thank you again for your comments, it is very important to us. Property Owner

  • "The property was nice."

Had problems with ants on work top and dining table, didn’t have much cupboard space to put food in and ended up with some ants in food. When eating a meal we had ants joining us on the table! Tried cooking a meal only to find the main oven didn’t work, so we ate out more than planned. We did enjoy how central the cottage is.. Parking was tight and was a little uncomfortable when we at our cars and locals were passing using the public right of way. However it didn’t spoil our stay as Beer is a beautiful place.

Thank you for your comments. We have looked into the issues you have reported and can confirm they have all now been resolved. LYME BAY TEAM Property Owner

  • "The property was spotless, and I loved the attention to detail in the décor and aesthetics throughout the property, The beds were comfy."

The cottage itself is very well equipped, has everything you could want, even found a little sewing kit for my husbands shirt button that had come off. Location is fabulous for costal walks, shops are close, and local eateries are also very close by. Although the chippy closed at 2pm which was annoying for us, as we tend to eat later. Sitting out on the terrace with a glass of wine on the evening or coffee in the morning was idyllic as it was accompanied by the sounds of birds, and other wildlife, a real gem Wouldn’t hesitate to book this again. Beer is great for all ages too as we had my son who is 2 and Grandad in his 70’s

  • "The reason we have given only 3/4 for facilities/maintenance is that the windows needed cleaning more frequently."

There were baked-on seagull stains which had not just happened over the last few days. We appreciate this is a problem in seaside locations but more frequent cleaning would assist. It would also have been useful to have more detailed instructions about the heating, we were able to work it out but it was trial and error, so instructions would have been handy. That said, this was a lovely cottage in a great location, very comfortable, with everything required, and the welcome bag of local goodies was a nice touch, as was the milk in the fridge. We would recommend the cottage to anyone wishing to stay in the area.

  • "A great holiday in a lovely cottage."

Located in a perfect position. Far enough of the Main Street and a short walk to the beach. Having parking was a bonus in this village. The parking is a little tight but still a usable space. Would happily return to Lavender Cottage.

Other than that it was a fantastic property and we had a lovely stay.

I’m so pleased that you had a lovely holiday. The washing machine is in a little utility at the end of the garden, I’m so sorry that you didn’t find it. We hope you’ll visit again Property Owner

About the location

BEER

Seaton 1.5 miles; Lyme Regis 9 miles; Sidmouth 9.5 miles; Exeter 25 miles.

Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction. Beer is situated on the stretch of Devon coastline, known as the Jurassic Coast, a designated World Heritage Site, and the village offers sloping streets lined with picturesque stone houses and cottages built on many different levels of the steep valley sides. There are a good range of shops, friendly cafes, restaurants and pubs in Beer, plus just outside the village is the popular Pecorama Gardens, which are perched on the hill overlooking Lyme Bay. Pecorama boasts the Beer Heights Light Railway and indoor model railway exhibition, along with a children's play area. Beer is a unique Devon fishing village and a great place to stay.
