  • "The cottage was lovely, clean and cosy."

A little wear and tear which is to be expected but nothing to complain about. Pretty sound proof...once we closed the door, we couldn't hear the stormy weather outside. The kitchen was well equipped and had plenty of free cupboard space for supplies. Barn View is in a great location as base to explore Devon and Cornwall. The Old Smithy Inn was very welcoming and a great place to stop after a day out. Overall would definitely recommend, we had a great time, humans and dogs alike. Thank you for having us.

Could do with lighting in the patio area outside the kitchen door as I tripped twice. Back door was a bit tricky to lock/unlock and hubby had to fix shower bracket as it was loose. Otherwise loved it, lovely and peaceful, great location and great views, although hedges a bit overgrown and hindered the view slightly.

  • "Lovely place to stay."

The only thing for us was that the sofas were too soft, very unsupportive for older backs. However the bungalow was wonderful. Taps in bathroom a little difficult to turn but not impossible. The local pub, well we wouldn't recommend, basic food not very well cooked. The week we went was wet and cold but the accommodation was always warm even without heating on. Would recommend a new tin opener, we ended up buying one, but not a big issue. Would we go again, definitely. The local areas were wonderful to explore.

Comfortable, spacious clean accommodation. Plenty of car parking and very dog friendly with an enclosed paved area and fields out the back. For future guests the local beach at Welcombe is stunning but more like two miles away rather than half a mile as described. It's also a tough walk back and the road is rough towards the small car park. Thanks.

  • "We enjoyed our week at Barn View."

It was well equipped and had everything we needed. As usual with Sykes, a small problem we encountered shortly after arrival was promptly sorted out. Barn View is ideal if you have a dog, there is a large field at the back for off lead exercise. Sofas were comfy and so was the bed. Only criticism is that the duvet is rather heavy for summer, a lighter alternative would be a good idea.

I was hoping it had a bbq but didn’t, also you definitely need a car as everything is quite a way. Difficult with only one toilet and had to flush using water in a bucket. Disappointed with the very creased bedding, completely different to the photos, the double duvet was 13.5 and extremely heavy duck down (not very wash friendly!) whereas the single bed was a very thin duvet not warm enough for this time of year. Beds were comfortable which was a bonus. Towels very worn apart from two bath towels, the others need replacing. A mix of glasses, not as shown in the photo, and the mugs worn inside and need replacing. Outside was decaying weeds around the fence area and needs tidying up

  • "Great location and lovely of the owners to leave out a bottle of wine for us on arrival."

Really lovely cottage, fully equipped with a tumble dryer, washing machine and dishwasher as well as great space and accommodation with both bath and shower. But there are some 'buts'. We had to rewash the towels as they were stained and smelled of cigarette smoke. They were good quality so washed up a treat. The kitchen floor is unsafe and in urgent need of attention - its collapsed under the vinyl and you can lose your footing in the cooker area. The paddock 'grass' was knee high and difficult to use for the dogs and us - could have been mowed. The shower head is held on by string in the bathroom and the exterior clothes airer is totally broken. It would have been useful to have a hose attachment for the outside tap to rinse the dogs and there is no sign on the exterior pillars to say this is Barn View, making it difficult to find initially. The TVs in each of the 2 bedrooms were not working on arrival and are not connected to anything - so it would have been better not to have them in the rooms at all. The tumble drier water tank was so full that the water filter is also full of water and was leaking onto the kitchen floor when we arrived. There was an exterior drain issue caused by damage to the drain prior to our arrival which necessitated DynoRod attending. This was not the owners fault in any way but we were asked over 3 successive days to leave our key out under the front door mat, which was not possible as the mat would have revealed the keys. So we left the property unlocked to allow access only to discover that the owner lived opposite and attended anyway so we needn't have done this. The cottage just needs sone tlc to make it back up to standard.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. Had you made us aware of the issues you encountered during your stay, we would have gladly tried to rectify them at the time. Aside from this we are glad that you enjoyed the location and the property. Property Owner

The outside of the property did not look like the clean and tidy environment shown in the photo. The front of the property was covered in large weeds some 2-3 feet high. The kitchen floor was very uneven and covered in holes under the floor covering. Shower worked ok but shower cubicle had a bit of black mould in it. Other than than the property was ok. Plenty of parking space, spacious inside, nice furniture.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. The garden has been tidied. The building was originally an old Shippon and some of the flooring underneath is original flooring, so is slightly uneven. The black mould has been dealt with in the shower. Property Owner

We would definitely love to come back next year. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was perfect to us. We loved the enclosed garden and felt so safe there with our 2 dogs. As outdoor people we loved sitting in the garden. Our only minor critique would be that the garden and surrounding area looked like it hadn't been tended too in a while. There were weeds growing through the boundary fence and patio to the rear and side. The view of the property did not quite match the beautifully presented photos on your website. This said we had a fantastic time there and would highly recommend this property to everyone. It location is perfectly placed between Bideford and Bude and is only a short drive to local amenities.

The cottage ticked all the boxes and exceeded our expectations. It was in a remote area, but within walking distance of the lovely coast of Welcombe Bay. The cottage itself was a 'home from home' and the log burner was an added bonus. The cottage was clean and comfortable with everything we needed and our two doggies, Wilson (Vizsla) and Finn (Cockapoo) were over the moon to be allowed to run in the adjacent field, with stunning views across the valley and beyond. We also walked half a mile to the local pub 'The Old Smithy Inn' where we were made to feel welcome in the lovely setting of a thatched traditional pub. I would not class this as a 6 bed holiday home. So slightly disappointed. There was a small patio which needed to be hosed down as there was dog poo remnants on it.

Our ‘peaceful’ retreat with the occasional passing tractor (stated in description) turned out to include a dumper truck, digger, chainsaw, several workers and their radio 5 days out of 7 so the idea of a restful week was kind of ruined a bit. If you’re intending on using the cottage as a base only and being out all day every day then great, but if you like to holiday at your own pace and itinerary then I would avoid until ALL of the building work is finished.

Always nice to be able to drive right to the door for unpacking. Accepts dogs but doesn't smell of dog, which is good if you haven't got dogs yourself. Excellent location for access to the coast path without having to drive. Slightly weird being in a modern barn conversion in the midst of a rather overgrown farm setting with building works ongoing, but then lots of properties have their quirks. One suggestion would be to keep the weeds at bay which are invading the fenced patio area from the surrounding farm. We would be very happy to return.
