  • "Scruffy. Cracked windows Underfloor hearing on when thermostat off in bedroom hot at night turned it all off in the end Warm water from cold tap Broken toilet seat Loose tap in bathroom Shower came on when flushing toilet Freezer always buzzing Droning in background from heating Noise from neighbours connecting doors No privacy outside everyone wandering everywhere Blown windows in conservatory no lights in conservatory or outside."

Huge ruts in driveway Had to ring up for Wi-Fi No explanatory sheet or leaflet Lots of little things wrong just needs a bit of TLC Wouldn’t go back

Thank you for your feedback, all maintenance issues have since been resolved, including the replacement of light bulbs. Property Owner

  • "Really lovely stay at this pretty cottage."

Lovely and warm in the cold damp weather. Had seen some negative comments from other people but to be honest we didn't have a problem. Felt the comments about overgrown shrubs was a bit harsh, given that it is winter and pruning won't happen until the Spring. Sofas were comfortable and we had no leaks. Felt there were some minor housekeeping issues, such as door knobs falling off, but these were minor issues and will be easily fixed. One thing that would have made the stay even better was a book for cottage renters with details of how things work, wifi password and places to eat and visit locally. Again something that is easily rectified. We would book again.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Oak Tree, but I have to agree with the last couple of reviews that the cottage is in need of some TLC and an update in places."

Some of the niggles - the kitchen and lounge were very dark due to the very overgrown shrubs covering the windows. A new sofa is desperately needed, as the springs had gone. The shower kept turning on & off when the toilet was flushed (this was pointed out to the owner, so hopefully this will be rectified ASAP). The location and swimming pool were lovely.

  • "Issues that need looking at that were niggling: description totally misleading, both us and our adjoining neighbours felt the same."

We walked into a ceiling in the lounge which had water dripping into a bucket for the whole week from a leaking underfloor heating system. We could hear every word the neighbours would say through the two internal doors between us, shower kept leaking as if turned on sporadically, garden furniture very uncomfortable, not modern, conservatory furniture had holes in wicker arm rests, door bolt to conservatory broken, windows to conservatory seal blown, no blinds no light either, door handles missing screws to hold them in place, outside plants blocking view through windows and access to front door needs pruning. Play area seating missing slats to seating. Cold water from taps was a problem as it came out hot! Unfortunately all the above made for a niggling stay. We will not be coming back or recommending the holiday

  • "This cottage would benefit from some TLC and a good clean."

The conservatory has no working lights so is very dark at night and in the day you can’t see out the windows due to them all having blown. The entrance could do with tidying up , over grown and lots of weeds. On a positive note the pool was lovely and very clean and very dog friendly.

  • "Cottage looks very pretty with flowers around the front of property."

Very spacious rooms. the room with four poster bed was furnished to enhance the age of property with beamed ceiling & en suite bathroom again designed appropriately . nice bright modern shower room off the twin bedroom. the large swimming pool was well used by us as we had excellent weather. there were a few negatives which could improve the holiday experience. the main rooms were clean however the floor lamps in the living room were very dusty & the conservatory had several cobwebs & dusty window sills. the conservatory is in need of some TLC as the woodwork is very shabby , there are no blinds in here so gets unbearably warm. the room itself is very large & furniture was comfortable & when not too warm is a good place for sitting quietly to read. the settees in living room are sagging so therefore not the most comfortable. the outside furniture was ridged old wooden furniture which again needs to be treated, therefore despite the glorious weather could not sit outside. if you have a dog with you there is no secure garden for them. we enjoyed our holiday but the owners need to spend some time & money to bring it up to scratch as it is a pretty cottage with lots of positives.

  • "We have just spent a week at Oak Tree (myself, my husband and our 7-year-old son) and can't recommend it highly enough!"

The house is more spacious than it appears in the pictures. The 4-poster bed in the main bedroom was beautiful and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the conservatory with a glass of wine in the evenings, enjoying the view of the hills. The pool was fantastic and the rota system worked really well - it felt very luxurious having a pool that size to ourselves. Play area and trampoline were also great. The local pub (walking distance down farm tracks but best in walking boots if it's been raining) serves excellent food, we ate there twice. We also ate at Rumour and Waterside Bistro in Totnes, both of which were very good. Woodlands theme park is just a short drive away and a good day out if you have children - don't be put off by the reviews, go prepared with a packed lunch and it's fine. As an adult, it would not be my first choice of how to spend a day but our son had a brilliant time! The owner at Oak Tree was very pleasant, came and introduced himself and, though we didn't need anything from him during our stay, I had the impression it would not have been a problem if we had. Overall, an excellent stay and we will certainly be back.

Perfect for young kids with all the facilities available. The swimming pool was a great hit. My older son enjoyed playing with the other kids staying in the cottages on the farm. There's plenty of outdoor space for them to play/run around. The location of the cottage is great to visit so many of the local attractions in Devon. We never had to travel far unlike when we've stayed in Cornwall and you have to regularly drive for an hour to get to places. The cottage has everything you need and the property owner visited us on the first and last day to check we were ok and check whether there were any issues.

The kitchen is well equipped for preparing family meals to enjoy around the dining table.

At bedtime, head upstairs to the two bedrooms, with a romantic four-poster in the double and pretty valley views.

Outside you have your own seating area with outdoor furniture and a barbecue for alfresco suppers, as well as all the open space to enjoy beyond.

With an optional interconnecting door to East Bickleigh next door and a big dining area in one of the cottages, it is an ideal place for two families to enjoy their own space.
