"This review is late in coming to you because we have been away since occupying Flat 27 Bigbury on sea and is further to communications with Jackie and our interaction prior to our booking and having read the complaints during the summer about this flat."
On entering this flat one is amazed by the size and the views. However within twenty four hours of arrival you realise that this flat has been well used and most of the things in this flat are past their best. It has been cleaned to a superficial level but the dirt is in nooks and crannies that only a deep clean will cure.
The list below is only some of the faults many of which have been noted in the visitors book particularly this year. Talking to the caretaker we were informed that the owner has not visited for nearly a year and he is left to do running repairs. It is in need of TLC, are his words.
In the Kitchen the fridge has no Ice tray and no fridge light.
There is no freezer which is a requirement in a holiday flat.
The toaster has crumbs under the tray and on the tray. The toaster needed it's crumb trays washed.
Waste food bin had grimed in dirt around the rim
Knife block greasy, no small paring knife and some were purchased
All glasses needed washing before use
Dishwasher had no salt or rinse aid in it.
Washing machine was too complicated and unable to activate the drying cycle
Lights under shelves not working and shelves not clean
Wooden tray not clean and all Items on tray not cleaned eg sugar bowl dried sugar solid and pot for tea bags filthy.
In the Lounge the television was not very modern so disappointing not to obtain iPlayer or Netflix
The light by TV does not work possible a loose wire
Windows not very clean smeary ad balcony glass surround needs cleaning.
Robert’s Radio very smeary Dust ++ on shelf
Arms on soft furniture shiny and grubby
Dining chairs between vertical slats dirty.
In all rooms the shutters are not easy to open and have dropped and scuffed the floor and window sills. It needs a carpenter to rehang them. In fact there were some that we could never open.
Doors and paintwork could do with a good wash or paint.
In the bathroom the area behind the toilet pan was grubby
No rubber cushions on the toilet lid and seat making them unstable.
Bedside lamps with open glass shades had dirt and dead flies inside.
The balcony furniture needs a complete set of cushions that fit.
2nd bedroom is very small and only suitable for children. The shower needs a complete upgrade with thermostatic valves. The light in the mirror is not working.
A good point is that there was plenty of hot water. The bed and bed linen are very comfortable.
The weather was good and we managed to make ourselves comfortable but the rent for the flat is totally overpriced as it does not deliver the level of modern conveniences and cleanliness one expects in a flat at this rental.
I therefore request a refund of £400 and suggest the owners visit to see how much maintenance work is required as good cleaning can only be done if furniture and paintwork is maintained.

We were very pleased that guest was amazed by the size of the apartment and the views.The second bedroom is smaller than the main bedroom as most clients like a larger main.I am sorry the toaster had.crumbs on the tray but they are breadcrums.We did clean it when we were in the aparment,and do visit four times a year to improve the rooms.We are sorry to hear about the problems but a client on 2nd August said the accomadation was lovely.The television is better than we have at hom! and am glad the bed and bed linen are very comfortable.

"First impressions are “wow”, the wrap around balcony, view & location are amazing."
Lovely gesture of biscuits on arrival but once settled in, niggly faults noted in visitors book by two previous occupants became apparent. Worst was the high pitched scream from the main bathroom extraction fan, main bedroom window did not open, both bathroom mirror lights had blown bulbs, kitchen needed a good clean. A clothes horse would have been helpful. Nothing major but definitely not up to the standard I was expecting for the cost of the week’s accommodation.
The extractor fan has been ordered and the electrician has replaced the light bulbs.A clothes horse in an option to consider but we try to keep the apartment as spacious as possible.

"Very disappointed with the level of cleanliness as very dusty in parts of apartment."
Dust on most skirtings , around furniture and even on the walls !!Lots of maintenance issues which were reported on day 1 but not resolved. One window in main bedroom wouldn’t open , screaming fan in en-suite , mirror lights only half working in both bathrooms , no main light working in jack and Jill bathroom plus no lock , faulty door handle in twin bedroom resulting in no exit unless via attached bathroom ( fire risk surely ?) missing cushions and mis matched patio furniture. Not the standard we would expect from helpful holidays particularly with the tariff that we paid and we feel that we were ignored when we mentioned the above to the maintenance team . Since returning home I have seen a review posted about this flat in July stating a number of the above issues .why have they not been dealt with as you continue to rent this property out .I look forward to discussing this with you further and would appreciate a reply .
We will no doubt return to this area again but unfortunately not to this apartment.

The electrician has since attended and all lights are in working order, with the bathroom fan being looked at. The lock in the small bathroom although working, will be looked at and sorted today. The mismatched furniture is due to the supplier providing the closest match at the time of replacement.

"The standard of cleanliness and maintenance in the apartment was poor."
I have taken some photos and would be happy to share. There was thick dust on skirtings in some areas in the bedrooms and living room. Hair balls and dust balls under the table in the main bedroom. I reported a faulty bathroom light on the day we arrived and it was still faulty when we left. The light on one side of the mirror in the shower room isn't working. The door to the small bedroom doesn't open from the inside if pushed shut from inside....exit has to be via the bathroom door and then open the bedroom door from the hall. The fan in the main bathroom makes a loud squeaking noise. I would like this fed back to the owners. They are being ripped off by their cleaners and maintenance team. It needs to be put right so people don't resent the money they have spent and come home feeling disappointed which at the moment we do. We love this location and have been there 4 times. Other apartments are fresh and clean. We will return again but not to number 27.

"We really enjoyed our stay at the apartment - it’s stylish, comfortable and clean with stunning views from every window."
Great bed, much appreciated after long, strenuous walks! The kitchen is well eqipped with lots of extra touches. We loved the lemon cake, much appreciated after a long journey. We only missed an umbrella for the balcony as it was very hot in the afternoon.
We hope to return as we had a great holiday at No 27 and would be happy to recommend a visit.

"All I can say is Wow."
This apartment is by far the best for views and comes with a wrap around balcony. It was clean and tidy. On arrival we found fresh flowers, cake and tea bags. That was a very nice surprise. Thank you for a great stay. We shall be back.

"We had a lovely stay at number 27."
The views were much better than the photos, the kitchen was well equipped. The super king bed was very comfortable and huge!
Our only negative feedback is that the property could do with a thorough clean throughout, lots of dust everywhere, I dropped my makeup brush behind the dressing table and when I pulled the unit out there were two old face masks and old packs of pain killers. We took our toddler on this trip with us and he was regularly pushing his toy cars under sofas and units and when we recovered them they were covered in hair and dust. The last feedback said the towel rails weren’t working and they still weren’t working for us, this was disappointing as our towels wouldn’t dry properly. The main bedroom light still wasn’t working.
If this property had regular deep cleans this would be a 5* property. We will be back.

"Hi there,
This is our second visit to number 27."
Whilst the views are stunning, the apartment is not as clean as I would come to expect from these holidays. There’s a lot of dust in general round the apartment. In addition once I’d removed the bedding, the duvet covers and pillows were old and in some cases stained. The main bed mattress actually had dirt and dust and hair over it. It was actually revolting. I had to clean pubic hairs out of the bath when we arrived before I had a bath. We called the Maintenance manager as the washing machine had no fuse at the plug? Some other general maintenance that is needed in the flat for your attention:
Light bulb is out in the entrance hall
Light bulb is out in the main bedroom over the bed
Light and shaving point not working in en-suite to main bedroom
Towel rail not working in the bathroom to the second bedroom
Fridge light isn’t working
Stains on the towels

"This apartment is in a lovely position and well equipped."
We had a few quibbles, why were the duvets winter weight instead of summer weight I had to remove my duvet and sleep with the cover and towel. Only 1 plug socket in the twin room and that was behind a bed! But most important both toilet seats were in a disgraceful state small pins sticking out of the lid and these had gouged out patches on the seat which is not at all hygienic.
Thank you for your feedback, we have spoken to the owner and they are going to have a look into providing a summer duvet in the property. The owner has since changed the toilet seats. We are glad you found the property well equipped and in a good position. - The Helpful Holidays Team

"Only small criticism is the same every year, and in every holiday home : the duvets are always too heavy and warm for summer."
Could someone not suggest to owners that they might supply lightweight bedding? Maybe with extra blankets if it's chilly? We have learned to expect it now! Otherwise we loved it and had a great time.

"Similar to a previous review this apartment could be perfect."
It is spacious, well equipped, with beautiful views. The maintenance is not adequate, there are nails protruding from both toilet seats where stoppers would have originally sat and this has resulted in removing the paint from the toilet seats. Not great if you have kids in the apartment. The bath panel also needs replacing. Paintwork is in need of updating. The cleanliness is not of a high standard, you can see where the tiles on both bathroom walls have not been cleaned in a long time. I have stayed in much less expensive accommodation and the maintenance and cleanliness have been spot on. Otherwise the facilities are good and the location perfection.

"Fabulous location and building and the beach facilities on the doorstep are super."
The accommodation has the potential to be really good but was let down by a few things. The apartment would benefit from a deep clean, the bed frames under the mattresses were very dirty, some of the towels and bed linen were well past their best with bleach stains / frayed in places, and there was no salt and pepper. A lick of paint on the skirting boards or a good clean also needed. Lots of chipped crockery. For the price of the accommodation in high season, this is the most we have ever spent for a week, all of these points together are a little disappointing.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback and bringing these points to our attention. The owners have confirmed that the towels and bed linen have been replaced. The skirting boards have been painted and a deep clean of the apartment has been carried out. They were unable to find any chipped crockery; they have however replaced some of the missing/broken glasses.

"We have been coming to the Burgh Island Causeway Apartments for fifteen years which tells you how much we love them!"
We have stayed in quite a few of them and they are all of a very high standard. No 27 is amazing as very spacious, bedrooms with sea views and a double corner balcony with the best garden furniture- would highly recommend.

(1) Biggest weakness was there was no freezer - would expect this at this level of accomodation.

"Beautiful apartment in a superb position."
Only slight drawback is how far away the nearest store is for milk etc, which we weren’t advised of.***Owners Response*** Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We were sorry to hear you were not aware that the local Hollywell Store is able to deliver provisions,milk and newspapers on request. We will double check our information folder on our next visit to ensure this information is available for all future guests.
