  • "Wottonsbury is in a beautiful location - the view from the bed in the morning is of rolling hills with sheep."

It is a lovely, comfortable, spacious cottage and it is the most well equipped we have ever stayed in! And not only did Bridget provide some lovely welcome gifts for the humans, Cleo (our cavapoo) had her own little pack. Bridget is a very helpful host with recommendations etc. The local pub (The Carpenters Arms) and the village shop are fabulous as is the spa hotel nearby which we went to for a delicious champagne afternoon tea. These are all within walking distance. I can highly recommend!

Thank you for your comprehensive review. I am so glad you enjoyed the house and the surrounding area. Also, I had forgotten to mention the spa at the Ilsington Hotel as a fun thing to enjoy, I will add it to places to go. Warm regards Bridget Property Owner

  • "As someone else has already said, the photos really don't do Wottonsbury justice - it's so much better in real life!"

We had the most wonderful, peaceful stay over Easter. We don't live very far away, but we needed a complete break, and at Wottonsbury we felt like we were a million miles away from all the stresses and strains of our daily lives. The house is not just clean and comfortable but has a fantastic warm feel - we felt at peace for the first time in a long time. There are fantastic walks on the doorstep which we - and our border collie - loved, but other than that we didn't stray far from the house because we loved being there so much!

Dear Sara, I am so pleased that you felt welcome and at peace at Wottonsbury, I am going to try and get the stars to align with the sun out, vacant and clean for some new photographs but as you say its hard to capture the feeling of the property which I like you get a real sense of peace when I take the time to be there. Wishing you well. Best Bridget Property Owner

The garden is so pretty with camellias flowering and lots of comfortable seating to relax and enjoy the view. The location is excellent for walking on Dartmoor and the village of Ilsington is so friendly with the best community shop. We will certainly be returning. Thank you .

Dear Jennifer, Thank you for your lovely comments and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Wottonsbury. We are lucky that Ilsington is a really lovely active village with The Carpenters Arms and village shop as its heart. You are always welcome. Many Thanks Bridget Property Owner

In our opinion The pictures on Sykes site do not do it full justice! It was so much better than we expected. The owner was also lovely, making personal contact via text to make sure we were ok and warning us of such things as when grass cutting were to be done. Additionally the view from the cottage was to die for and the property was well situated for site seeing, walking and amenities.

Dera Marion, Thank you for your passionate feedback it is always a boost to me to hear that the property is managing to stay at a high quality and of course, the landscape trumps this always. Many Thanks Bridget Property Owner

Everything we needed and a great location to explore Dartmoor, Dartmouth and Paignton. We walked the dog to the local pub and had a great meal out. The house had lots of extras that I didn't expect. The milk, tea, coffee and bubbles were a great welcoming, thank you. The only small suggestion would be that it's time for the summer duvets to come out. However we still had a great family holiday, thanks again.

  • "We had a great stay thank you very much."

The house is in an ideal location, great facilities, we had everything we needed and more. The beds were probably one of the most comfortable beds we’ve had at a holiday home. Thank you also for getting back to me so quickly when I contacted you. The only reason I have give an 8 for recommendation is because the garden is not suitable for toddlers with the different levels and stairs. It didn’t affect us much as we did not use it but for friends of mine with young children I would not recommend to them however I would to others.

Thank-you Kim for taking the time for your feed back it is very helpful for people to understand the property when they book. So good to hear the beds were comfortable and you had what you needed. When your little ones are a bit bigger come visit again hopefully with a little more sun and flower blooming. The property exceeded expectations. It was comfortable and well equipped and some and some really nice touches both inside and out and stunning views. Village setting was lovely. Dear David, Thank-you for your kind feedback and suggestions. I have now purchased lighter duvets for the summer months . I will certainly consider supplying a BBQ and will start sourcing an appropriate one for the property. Many thanks for your stay. Best Bridget Property Owner

It is, however difficult to spot as not very well signed. We went past twice before spotting the (small) sign. Kitchen is well kitted out although we were analogue people in a digital kitchen, Had difficulty with the induction hob, had minor learning problems with the microwave (which is sited in a difficult corner) and never mastered the Nespresso machine. Adequate cutlery and plates but could have done with a few more cups. Beds were fine and comfortable, duvets were designed for a siberian winter, not a british summer. Overall we were pleased with the accommodation and had no major complaints (only the little niggles noted).

The property

Sitting on the outskirts of Ilsington, within the Dartmoor National Park in Devon is this fabulous, semi-detached cottage of Wottonsbury.

Enjoying exceptional views of the countryside, whilst being within easy reach of the coast, Wottonsbury is the perfect setting for a family of four who want the best of both worlds during their Devon getaway.

After parking in one of the two provided parking spaces, take some time to absorb your lovely surroundings before walking down the gentle flight of steps to the house and heading inside.

A large utility area greets you as your enter the dwelling: an idea space to leave your coat and boots (or maybe a wet furry friend by closing the internal stable door) before moving into the comfortable house.

You'll find the sitting room located off the attractive hallway: a superb space for unwinding, thanks to its charming furnishings and TV.

After a moment of relaxation, continue to the kitchen/diner, a room that has not only been attractively designed but also features everything you need to create culinary treats, alongside offering a coffee machine for the mornings.

After the budding chef of the family has rustled up dinner here, enjoy it at the dining table, or take it out to one of the gardens for an alfresco meal.

As the day comes to an end, retreat upstairs to two delightful bedrooms, a king-size and a twin (which can be a super-king double bed on request) that enjoy far-reaching views of the rolling hills.

Also on this floor rests the bathroom, a well-fitted space with a bath and separate walk-in shower for you to unwind in before or after a day packed with fun.

Make the most of the outdoor spaces and venture out to the garden, where multiple patios host ample seating for you to relax on as you soak up the vistas; there's also a fire pit, so you can enjoy toasty nights under the stars.

Wottonsbury is located just one mile from the famous Haytor Rocks on Dartmoor which offers a great starting point for extended walks or picnic.

Wild swimming for those who dare. Travel a little further into the moor for a cream tea in the ancient village of Widecombe in the Moor or to enjoy a local beer in the garden of the The Rugglestone Inn.

Teignmouth, Paignton, and Torquay are all close by, offering coastal excursions.

Local sporting facilities include floodlit municipal tennis courts, small skate park and children play area 1 minute from the house and a 15-minute drive to Bovey Tracey golf course and heated outside municipal pool.

A marvellous stay for you and your loved ones awaits at Wottonsbury.
