  • "We had a wonderful stay at this comfortable and quiet cottage."

It was much more spacious than we expected, very clean, a well stocked kitchen and a warm welcome from Debbie. The cottage is within the grounds of the owner's home but has plenty of privacy and we didn't feel overlooked at all. Lovely views of the countryside and within half an hour's drive of so many excellent beaches and seaside towns. We would happily return.

The beds were very comfortable and everything we needed was provided including a BBQ in the garden area. The only slight downside was the WiFi kept dropping out so that was a bit frustrating especially as the Freeview TV linked into it. The area is so peaceful and we loved walking up the quiet lane with our dogs. The stars were so clear at night. Many thanks. Rachel and Sam

  • "Woodstock is a lovely cottage."

It's situated in an isolated spot & has wonderful views from the front patio of the surrounding East Devon countryside. It's part of a small complex consisting of the owners cottage & the smaller "Retreat" to the rear of Woodstock, but we never felt overlooked or impeded in any way. It is lovingly furnished throughout, & downstairs has a particularly modern feel. It is also very dog friendly. The only slight inconvenience during our stay was that the nearest pub, which was in Chardstock about a mile away, was temporarily closed. Wouldn't you just know it? But everything else great & I would highly recommend It.

The cottage is very comfortable with everything you could need and Olly our Cavalier KC was happy in his enclosed garden with use of the meadow adjacent. There is ample parking outside and Debbie provided clear directions for our arrival. We he’d some lovely days out and Woodstock is well placed for exploring the local area. It was great to return at the end of each day to have dinner on the decking over looking the garden. The super king size bed was so very comfortable and we slept well every night. Regrettably we only booked for one week but we are considering returning. Thanks Debbie for a wonderful stay, my batteries are recharged with-my game face back on.

Although the cottage is in the country side it is very easy to get to any area you wish to explore with a very picturesque landscape some interesting beaches, Durasic Coast, being the beginning of October it was very dog friendly you would need to be a bit more careful in the summer. Debbie the host was lovely & showed us around and the house has everything you need. We were impressed that even items like dishwasher tablets and shower gel were provided alongside all of the usual things. It was absolutely spotless & didn’t smell at all. The beds were comfortable and the living area was also comfortable with a good size TV, books, brochures for the local area & games. It was so quiet, especially at night and even outside in the beautiful garden where we would spend time in the garden at breakfast and dinner, which was v.relaxing! We also appreciated that the main house was an eco home and there were lots of environmentally friendly features at the cottage. The house is v.close to lots of great beaches, towns and attractions. We really recommend staying.

Property owner was welcoming and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The only issue I would like to mention doesn't concern the property itself but your arrival instructions. They are clear when read on screen and are attractive. However, when one attempts to print them out, as I do, they are almost illegible because the printed text is so faint.

Obviously we turned everything off and moved the cleaning products, but it would’ve helped if there had been a door. The cottage was in a lovely setting though and the owner very accommodating.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and equipped with everything that you could need. Everything thing was top quality, including bed linen and towels. The stillness and peace of the setting are wonderful, just the sounds of birdsong and the brook in the distance. Debbie was most helpful and friendly. I would just mention that the path to the front door is in keeping with the location, but not ideal if you are not fully mobile. One bedroom and sitting are are upstairs, everything else is on one level, but there are 3 steps to the living area from the bedroom. We would heartily recommend this cottage.

  • "Had a lovely stay at the cottage- it is so peaceful and quiet there."

A great place to stay if you want a break away from the city. There are some roadworks going on there at the moment which was a little frustrating but in general it is a nice location if you want to drive to places like sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Exeter- best places we visited was darts farm in Exeter and the anchor inn in seatown. Only downside was my mum did not find it as comfortable as she was in what I thought would be the “proper” bedroom- downstairs with a door leading onto the patio as opposed to the upstairs room which is out in the open- but it was too cold for her and even though it was set up as a double it had two single duvets on it. But overall this isn’t enough to knock it down a star and we still had a great stay, thanks Debbie :)

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the complimentary remarks about Woodstock Cottage. I apologise for the road works happening just now - super-fast broadband cables are being hung on the telegraph poles, going on until 11th March 2022 but access to and from Woodstock Cottage was always assured by the contractor. They were not digging up the roads so there was very little noise. I am sorry to hear that your mother was cold in the downstairs bedroom. I would have been happy to pop over and raise the night time temperature on the heating system and would also have been happy to supply a super-king duvet and/or additional quilts and blankets had I known there was an issue. The cottage is on the same plot where I live and I always say to guests on arrival, that if they have any issues at all they should come and talk to me, and I will always do my best to help. It is hard to get it right for everyone as each set of guests may have different preferences. Property Owner

  • "This was a lovely place to stay, very peaceful and well appointed."

Great for bringing the dog and Debbie was very accommodating of Nellie as it is well to point out that the wall in The Cottage garden is quite low and if a dog is good at jumping can easily jump into Debbie's garden area which she didn't mind but we felt was a little annoying for her and her dog so we felt we wanted to keep Nellie on a lead when in the garden and not unattended. Other than this minor personal to us issue we would thoroughly recommend the cottage!

There are local country walks from the cottage itself. This is the second time we have stayed at Woodstock Cottage this year - last time was in winter when the wood burning stove was so welcoming! This time we sat on the patio for breakfast most mornings, and relaxed in the seating area in the garden, which catches the sun most of the day, especially in the late afternoon and evening. We enjoyed shopping at the local farm shops which have stock of everything you could need. The cottage owner is nearby and is really helpful should you need anything, though she has tried to think of everything to make for a comfortable stay. We has a thoroughly lovely stay once again, and we will certainly be back for another visit when we can.
