  • "Really nice place to stay and unwind."

Shame that the listing has not been updated to state that the Black Dog Inn is no longer open closing in 2023. The accommodation was excellent.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Salters."

Very comfortable and well equipped. Remote and quiet, a real escape. However, if you love your car, the long single track road to the cottage may not be for you. My Octavia is not a tractor but it looked like one after our visit and needed a deep clean and polish to erase the score marks down both sides. And our car is a workhorse serving our needs to carry bikes and materials for our allotment!

A beautiful converted barn. Very clean and well thought out. Lovely shower, comfy bed. We really enjoyed being on a working farm watching the sheep and cows come home, literally right past our kitchen window. Brilliant! Hen and Ollie were very friendly as well as their 3 well behaved dogs

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Salter's."

Everything we needed was provided plus a stairgate to help us keep our 2 dogs downstairs. We visited several locations in all directions. We would recommend Salter's to anyone wishing to explore Devon. We appreciated being able to walk around the fields at the farm. Thank you Hen (and the dogs) for your warm welcome.

Located on a working farm surround nothing but rolling hills and nature. The property had everything we needed for a well needed stay, well equipped and very comfortable. Would definitely come back.

  • "The cottage is lovely although very remote which is great for a quiet and relaxing stay."

The owner, Hen, was very welcoming and hardly batted an eyelid when she saw our 2 small but well behaved 97kg Leonburger and 65kg St Bernard. The location is a working farm but we were allowed access to all areas which was great for dog walking. Sadly, the Black Dog village pub has shut down but there were several good pubs within 10-15 mins drive. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Salters.

It was perfect for our needs. Nice to meet Hen too. Glad we brought our own milk and bread etc as we arrived around 8pm after a long drive and closest shop isn't on the doorstep.

  • "Beautiful cottage."

Nicely decorated and furnished. v clean. It is on a working farm and for that reason v remote - nearest small town is Crediton approx. 7m away. Roads are v narrow so don't expect to dash around the place. For us with two giant dogs it was a perfect quiet getaway. The yard to the front and the rear enclosed garden was great for them. Even with the high temperatures the garden had lots of cool shade and with the windows open the slight breeze kept the cottage comfortable.

  • "Beautiful barn conversion very clean and tidy with all the amenities you could need including secure garden areas front and back for your dog."

I personally found the single beds very firm so would recommend taking a mattress topper but that’s my preference. The wifi is a bit slow so be aware that it’s not somewhere you can watch Netflix! However we didn’t visit for that. The barn is near the farmhouse but not overlooked and feels very secluded and just perfect for relaxing and quite entertaining when the lambs are herded by by the very expert owner and her lovely dogs. The surrounding area is stunning with lots of walks and winding Devonshire roads. Black Dog is fairly central so both North and South Devon are easily accessible. Highly recommended place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry that you found the wi-fi wasn't able to cope with streaming. We are at the end of a long line so it is a bit sporadic and certainly never fast, but it generally is possible to watch Netflix, iPlayer etc. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was an absolute dream to stay in, it was so nice to get off of the roundabout of city life and experience total peace and quiet and not a street light in sight or the sound of any cars."

Although we didn’t see them very often the owners were helpful if you needed them. The cottage was very well equipped and tea coffee etc was provided. Tea towels washing up liquid and cloths were also provided there was also good quality towels supplied. Basic condiments were on hand to use salt pepper vinegar etc although I’m not sure if the owners supplied them or they were left by other visitors to the cottage. There was no tv in the cottage which we was not too bothered about but it would of been nice to have the choice. There is no local shops i think the nearest one was about 6 miles away so if you intend to cook make sure you come armed with your supplies. Our dog loved the freedom of the walks and running about in the fields which the owners are happy for you to explore. We would definitely return to salters again.
