  • "The property itself is beautiful , very cosy , I think the kitchen equipment could do with updating now ."

more wine glasses , more serving dishes . Does need a new tin opener , the one there doesn’t work ,, we love cooking while we are away as dietary requirements mean we have to .. lacking was items like pasta bowls needed as In the cottage an odd selection of dishes . Dining outside was possible as the weather fantastic but the table really is way beyond use , it’s all bent and not flat in any point , so new table and chairs a must .. bathroom toilet brush. Needs replacing asap .. I also think that the description of the cottage needs to say that the property is found with a shared access to two other properties so if your looking for total privacy you would be disappointed , the alley leading up to the house smells of cigarettes and there are ash trays full to the brim , this left by the other residents using the alley to their property .

  • "What a charming place."

Loved our week in this lovely cottage. The town is also perfect and everyone is so friendly. Lovely places to visit nearby and walks on your doorstep. The only downside was the outside furniture. Would have been lovely to chill outside with a glass of wine but chairs not comfortable at all. Nature reserve just down the road so perfect for dog walks.

Hi Vicky, thank you and so glad you enjoyed your stay and the location. The garden furniture is on our radar to replace so is on order. Take care Jon Property Owner

  • "We were terribly disappointed with the accommodation at Coinage Hall."

Have been trying to get a resolution for 6 days. The unit was rented for a week, and we only stayed for 12 hours. Sykes cottages and the owner do not respond to our request for a full refund. The unit reaked of inspect spray which resulted in a full blown asthma attack. The front door could not be unlocked from the inside. The fireplace could not be lit, nor could the stove. Our first impression was of the exterior entranceway and we walked through cigarette butts, empty wine bottles and trash to get to the unit. We do hope that Sykes will do the right thing and respond. Suzi and Greg

Our previous 10 plus reviews have had no such issues experienced and no changes have been made and no bug sprays have been used, only standard polish. Regarding other comments, this is an old cottage but please do feel free to contact me direct to discuss your feedback, I have provided Sykes with some contact numbers so you can liaise with me directly. Look forward to discussing Regards Jon and Max Skirton Property Owner

Quiet, no light pollution at all. Cosy downstairs bedroom (didn't use the upstairs one), excellent bathroom, gas heater heats the place very quickly. Couldn't close the French windows so the owner did a 5-hour return drive to fix it next day. Can't argue with that kind of service. Co-op is 10 seconds walk away. Four pubs and several eateries within 10 minutes walk. Royal Oak and Midnight Tandoori are highly recommended. There are several lovely beaches less than 20 minutes drive away. We had a good week.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback. As owners we take our guests holiday extremely important so we want them to have the best possible experience and if we can do anything to make there stay more comfortable we do so . We hope to see you return one day . Best wishes Jon and Maxine Property Owner

!! And it did not disappoint so comfy and in keeping with this ancient building - loved it!! Small gravelled courtyard was perfect for doggy early mornings and last thing at night !! Very quiet Lots of walks around town to explore My stay here was very good so enjoyed being in the centre of Lostwithiel what a charming small town not spoilt as so many of our towns - a gem. Interesting independent shops several for antiques Free parking everywhere and lots just seconds from accommodation in wide street, old town quay, by River Fowey. Railway close by if you want to leave car behind all very smart and tidy. A lovely quiet very pleasant town which is well situated for trips to coast north or south Loved it all

Warmed up well. Bath luxurious. Couches really comfy and plenty of cushions. The expanding dog fence was a great idea. I wasn’t expecting it and usually keep my dog on a lead in a strange garden but this allowed me to stay on the step and just keep an eye on him whilst he was outside.

It’s beautiful throughout. Very clean and comfortable. The owners contacted us prior to arrival to ensure we had all we needed. There were some welcome treats, much appreciated and enjoyed. It’s very old and steeped in history. The area very charming and quiet. Our stay was perfect. The only reason for not giving this property top marks, which it deserves. Is the parking, which it clearly states in the information. However the reality of this is it really was difficult to park. So we had to drive around until we could eventually park. Also the alley way to the property is shared by two further properties. I felt this made the dogs vulnerable as the gate was often left open. Again my husband and I worked a good system with this. Despite this the holiday was a fantastic break in a beautiful part of Cornwall.

Thank you for your positive feedback, The open gate issue has been addressed and a sign has been added to remind everyone . Property Owner

We were concerned when we read the most recent review but need not have worried as we found the property very clean, well equipped and delightfully furnished, in keeping with the quirky, historic building. We loved the huge beams and arched doorways. The location is handy for the railway station and lovely local walks. We had no problem with the street parking, especially later in the day. The only suggestion we would make is to fit a blackout blind on the upstairs velux - we had to fix a make shift cover over it to make the downstairs bedroom dark.

Thank you so much for wonderful comments, we are so pleased you loved Coinage Hall as much as we do . The charm, comfortable, character of the place has a quality of quirkiness which is loved & appreciated by our guests. • "Very dissapointed with the state of the property."

It more shabby than shabby chic. Its very tired and smells musty. The bath was awful, stained and grubby. There is alot of grease built up between the tiles on the worktop and around the hob and hood. Windows filthy not cleaned in a long time. 4 dried bird poos on kitchen window. The rug and dining chairs were filthy and stained Stains and dirt on armchair in living room and bedroom. Dirt marks on walls. Filthy ironing board cover. The dirt on the inside of the entrance door and kitchen window frame was unbelievable. And that vacuum cleaner! Wow! It stinks of every dog that's ever stayed there. It literally took our breath away. Didn't cook a meal there as worktops were so stained dirty and peeling paint not sutable for food prep. Garden furniture filthy covered in algae and rust. Gatden table unusable as top so blown. Overall the garden was totally unusable as a seating area to enjoy and NOT secure for the dogs. If we could have found alternative suitable accommodation we would have left. We ended up staying out as much as possible only returning to sleep. We got on with enjoying other positive aspects of our holiday instead of wasting time focusing on the negatives. I am sorry but this property isn't worthy of its rating atall. Looking through the comments book at the property there seems to be issues with cleanliness and some of the owners responses to negative feedback were terrible Some pages had been ripped out leaving you to wonder why! I took photos of the flaws and dirt at the property but unfortunately they can't be uploaded on to my feedback for others to see. Not worth the money paid and definitely would not use Sykes again if this is the quality of accommodation they allow on their site. They will be receiving a complaint from us.

We are very disappointed that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us . The charm of this cottage was obvious not to your taste . We always call on your first few day at the cottage to check everything is ok & to your liking .So to read after your stay was the first time ourselves & Sykes were aware of a problem. This has left us both surprised & upset as this is not the usual feed back we receive. We would have really appreciated a chance at the time of your holiday to have worked with Sykes & yourself to have made your holiday an enjoyable experience. Sadly we weren’t given the opportunity to do this. Jon & Maxine Property Owner

It is in a brilliant location for getting about in Cornwall and having the Co-op across the road was great. We only had 2 things which would have made our stay even more perfect. We wanted to enjoy the garden in the evening as the weather was beautiful but the furniture was not that comfortable. Maybe some cushions for the chairs would help. Also, whilst we new there was no stand up shower, the cottage would really benefit from this. We were very conscious of not spraying water on the wooden floor boards but it was quite difficult for my husband as he is a tall man. Apart from that, everything was perfect, we loved the quirkiness and all the little pieces that made it such a homely place to stay

We are so pleased you enjoyed your honeymoon with us at Coinage Hall. Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. We totally agree the garden furniture although blends beautifully with the charm of the cottage is due & upgrade we have been looking to find the right furniture, but thank you for the idea of some new cushions as this would definitely help in the meantime. The bathroom is also something we have many ideas for but as in previous comments we really don’t want to lose the charm of the cottage. As always we take all comments on board & hopefully work with our lovely guests to make Coinage Hall the perfect place to stay. Best wishes Jon & Maxine Property Owner

Spacious, clean, comfortable with everything you need included (and who doesn't need a welcome bottle of wine!) Amenities right on your doorstep but the property remains quiet and secluded even with a bank holiday bustle. My only small criticism is that the garden isn't secure for dogs, the gate was always open but I only have a small dog so built a little barrier between the archway with flower pots to keep him safe as we always wanted the door open to the garden.

Thanks for your wonderful comments and so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. The neighbours are always being asked to keep the gate closed but unfortunately they do not always comply. Will speak with them again but difficult to block any other way as houses within the area have right of access. Will put new sign up so which hopefully people will comply. Thanks again for comments and hopefully see you again sometime, Take care Kind regards Jon and Maxine Property Owner

This is a very quiet clean place to have as your holiday location to explore Cornwall. The cottage has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. You will have to be prepared that there isn't a shower as you know it, there is a shower head fitted to the bath but it is very hard to use, there are no shower panels or a shower curtain around the bath. Having a bath is nice but it is not for anyone with any physical disabilities. Still it was a very comfortable stay with everything you need.

Thank you very much for taking time to give us feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. The correspondence was excellent. Coinage Hall was in a lovely, quiet location with a Co-op a few strides away and a peaceful river walk on its doorstep. Parking was easy too. The cottage was perfect for my mum and I along with my 2 miniature poodles. It was very comfortable (we had to turn the heating down a bit so the operators might want to consider their heating bill!). The beds were great and the kitchen was well equipped. We had to turn the WiFi router on/off once to get devices to connect but then it all worked fine and was good for Zoom etc. Just a couple of things to bear in mind if you have dogs 1) the garden area is ungated so my dogs needed to be kept on a lead (they are not traffic savvy is they were to wander) and others may need to be supervised 2) one evening while cooking we had the kitchen window open and a beautiful (very friendly!) cat suddenly appeared on the interior windowsill - my dogs are not good with cats so I ushered it out and then snuck outside to say hello to him/her! But a fab place, shame we didn't get to use the kayaks.

Thank you Charlotte for your positive feedback. We are really glad you enjoyed your holiday , Thank you for letting us know about the heating and router & we are glad it was so easily sorted & didn’t spoil your holiday . The garden is a gated area and is generally always shut , we can only think that one of the neighbours had left it open by mistake. So apologies for that . The Christmas decorations were a nice touch. With the lamps on in the evening, it has a magical feel. Whilst the property had everything required it could do with a deep clean. Given the current climate, I was surprised to see a gruby kitchen top and dust in most places. The white sofa was filthy, although contrary to the visitors book very comfy. The bath was quite dusty and even had little hairs!! After a good clean from myself, I enjoyed the bathroom ambiance and the sunken bath was beautifully cosy. We had a wonderful stay and were honoured to stay in such an old and beautiful property. Sadly the cleanliness let it down.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Coinage Hall, its so central to all the facilities in the village."

The Co-op on the corner is literally a minute away. Would definitely stay here again and the little box of treats on arrival was a great feature. For constructive criticism i would say that on the property description it says open fire, but it is in fact a gas fired stove, we were looking forward to a traditional log burner, but this didn't detract from the stay. The property is let down by not having a proper shower, it can only add to the saleability of the property and finally please replace the white sofa, its so uncomfortable :) I would still recommend this cottage as its easy to get to many of the local areas, and if the minor improvements suggested were made it would be pretty much perfect. Had to contact Jonathan, the owner, who was very helpful, for instructions on how to light the gas burner, but once talked through the process of identifying where the pilot light was it was easy to do.

  • "We loved the cottage found it very clean no funny smells great location shops across the road."

Within half hour of all the great locations. The only small issue was the white sofa does need changing and does need a proper shower. But we loved our stay there and would stay there again and recommend it to others

  • "This is a lovely little romantic cottage with an extremely well equipped kitchen, apart from the fridge is far too small for the potential number of guests who could stay."

There is a lovely river walk from the property which may be useful to include in the advert. The location is great in terms of cafes, antique shops and a well stocked supermarket. My major issue with this property is that it is not safe for young children. The stairs are completely open, the railings on the mezzanine are insufficient to protect the young children and there is no secure gate between the courtyard and the road. I think it is important to highlight this in the advert.

  • "A very last minute booking, helped by exceptional staff at Sykes cottages."

The property we stayed in was very unique and beautiful. The owners have obviously taken great care to create this lovely home. We were met with fresh flowers and a welcome tray of Cornish treats. The property has everything you could possibly need. The village of Lostwithiel is lovely too with pubs and shops on the doorstep and of course the river where we spent time on the owners kayaks. We would definitely recommend the property.
