  • "Property was nice, clean and function and everything was as explained."

We enjoyed our stay. The owner may want to consider a couple of safety features though such as star Gate and fire guard for families with children/toddlers.

  • "Lovely cottage."

Great views of inner harbour, outer harbour and beyond. Not for everyone due to steps at the cottage and also down to main parts of harbour so make sure you read the description properly. Plan your journey and limit luggage then you can stop car in road to unload fairly quickly. Best to pay for a 8 day parking permit and park in main car park by breakwater, much easier and perfectly safe. I have done this many times on visits to Brixham and had no worries at all. Love it!

Car parking is a major problem in the info it states you can park in North View road this should be removed as this road is way too narrow for parking any thing other than the smallest of cars

  • "Unfortunately, not for us as more steps than initially thought, especially when lugging suitcases up and down!"

Parking very problematic. In our younger days, of which wouldn’t have been too phased about! Very steep which gave amazing views.

Lovely cottage i felt at home, the shower and bath were great. i have mobility problems but managed the stairs that lead up to the property the ones at the bottom of North view road are best, only gripe is the downstairs bedroom mattress was a bit uncomfortable and quilt a bit thin for this time of year but we found a blanket to go on top. We loved our stay and hope to return

  • "Lovely house in a good central location, plenty of room for everyone to spread out."

Loved the outdoor space, the top garden was a lovely find as I’d not read anything about that, it is a very steep climb up there though so not ideal for little ones to go up to the top of the garden or people who aren’t as mobile. We sat at the front most nights though which was still a fabulous view without the climb. My one criticism is that there was no dishwasher or anywhere to park but we bought a week pass for the local carpark (about £45, parked at the beach then kept our beach stuff in the boot save lugging it back and forth) and walked to the house as parking outside was a nightmare. Also I’d probably not book this location if you struggle with steps as there are loads! I loved the elevation of it and the views are just spectacular, sunsets every night over the bay. Beautiful house. (Only a 4 ok comfort as we found the mattress a bit hard and we’re used to a king not a double, only 4 fir facilities as it could do with a dishwasher and there’s no near parking, other than that, fabulous, would stay again)

  • "Lovely property, clean and tidy."

Description on sykes needs changing. Bathroom is still old pictures and states shower which you can walk in but it's only a bath now with an overhead shower which can't be used as a shower as the ceiling is too low and it's soaking the floor or the window. Also needs noting is the building work at present which takes out the view completely and we weren't made aware the view was obscured and its one reason why we booked the property. Parking I'd say no parking near the property and best to go to a carpark. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

Very happy to say that the scaffolding is down and the view is as shown in the pictures taken from inside the property. Sykes have sent a photographer round and pictures of the new bathroom have been taken, and the shower issue has been addressed. Property Owner

  • "A lovely old cottage that has been nicely modernised within."

Splendid views over the harbour and marina. The only drawback is something the owner can do nothing about, the road was not built with cars in mind, probably horses! Parking can be found, so don’t let this put you off. We loved our week here. Would definitely go back.

  • "Lovely cottage in beautiful location."

It's very comfortable and well looked after and a problem with the bathroom radiator was sorted quickly with excellent communication. There is loads to do for everyone and we found a week wasn't enough. Nice to have a lot within walking distance. There are steep steps and walks from the cottage but you can choose slightly easier paths if needed - see cottage guide. Parking is tricky as stated.

  • "Comfortable, clean house with lovely views of the busy harbour, some great places to see locally such as the Battery Gardens and Berry Head and can recommend the cafe at the fort."

The bus service to Paignton is exellent and the ferry crossing to Torquay is a must, an amusing naration by the captain made the journey very entertaining and we even saw an atlantic seal. Brixham cafe serves wonderful fish and chips at a reasonable price and Breakwater cafe serves an amazing crab salad and Devon CreamTea. The down side of Bay View is the parking, we were able to park on the narrow road in front of the property but we felt anxious all week that the car was going to get damaged (previous guests had left just such feedback) and this took the edge off our enjoyment and we did not want to use the car because of lack of car parking. Any future guests should be aware there are at least 110 steps from Bay View down into Brixham town/harbour.

  • "The cleanliness was substandard particularly more so in light of the pandemic."

The bathroom has serious damp issues with mould on the walls in the shower, there was half a bag of open ice in freezer and dirty pan in oven. The shower also had a drainage problem which had been documented previously in the comments left by previous guests but not addressed. It was a shame as the cottage is in a lovely position and is beautiful itself but seriously let down by this.

The cottage is really lovely, very relaxing and the views, I could just sit and watch all day. There were a few comments about the amount of steps, which there are and its steep, but the description does say this, it works of the Ice Creams!

Find this place exceptional in terms of locations. View is amazing at all times of day and whatever the weather. There are steep steps up to property but you get used to this. Pull up car near steps to unload suitcases then go and park in main car park in town. Left it there all week, didn’t need to use it, plenty to do around town and within walking distance. Loved every minute and will be back next year. Thankyou for lovely cottage.

  • "Exceeded expectations as far as the property, ease of booking etc."

Beautiful cottage, very well presented, right down to the welcome pack provided by the owners. The only downside were the amount of steep steps/slopes up to the property and down to the harbour, but having said that these are mentioned before booking and advised not suitable for anyone with mobility problems, our own fault as we hadn’t realised one of the party was more immobile than we had first thought. That said, once inside the property the views were FANTASTIC and the cottage very comfortable, beautifully furnished and welcoming. Brixham a lovely place and will DEFINATELY return. Thankyou for a great break away and will be using Sykes for any future bookings.

About the location

BRIXHAM

Dartmouth 5 miles; Paignton 6 miles; Torquay 8 miles.

Brixham is a working fishing harbour located on the southern side of Torbay, the area known as The English Riviera, famed for its sunny mild climate all year round. The focal point of the harbour is a life size replica of The Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake’s ship. The prettiest part of Brixham has small cottages in hilly narrow winding lanes leading to the harbour where all the activity is centred. Home to Britain’s largest fishing fleet which regularly lands their catch in the harbour, Brixham fish market sells to major restaurants in the UK. Brixham is the ideal destination for a traditional holiday with many family attractions around Torbay including two Blue Flag beaches, Paignton Zoo and many regattas and maritime events throughout the year. There are a host of safe cycle trails in the area, the South West Coastal Path and some of the best golf courses in the region. A good mix of relaxation or action, to suit all ages, where you are never far from the sea.
