  • "Even though property is old, the two sets of double doors never feel like they are fully closed or secure."

Being wood they shrink/swell with wet weather, but we never felt really comfortable trying to close them hard. Across the flat there are a couple of instructions regarding rubbish pickup and bags, and they are slightly different. We left too early on a Sunday to contact anyone, but living in a seaside town we know how important it is to get bins correct (seagulls etc) and we were a little stressed about if we had done it properly. Everything else was just as described . Really nice stat

Thank you for your comments. You are right that the French windows, which are made of wood as required by our listed building status, do expand and contract according to the amount of rain to which they are exposed. It has been a very wet year and they have expanded considerably. We are arranging with our builder to trim some wood off, although no too much as that would create a draught in drier weather. I'm sorry to hear that there are two sets of instructions, I was not aware of that. The ones to be followed are those to the left of the front door. Property Owner

But there was no clock! However that didn’t spoil our stay. Fantastic location with the added benefit of being a minute from the Kiosk whose croissant and hot chocolate are something else! Also almost next to Toms, a seriously good restaurant . Should we return to Lyme Regis then we would love to stay again at 2 Argyle House . Thank you for helping make our short break at the seaside an enjoyable one

  • "Excellent stay in a fantastic property, comfortable, homely and wonderful views."

We are grateful for your positive feeback. It was the location and the historical nature of the property that recommended the flat to us. Its location of course, being so exposed to salt-laden winds, is also a drawback, but a minor one when compared with the views. Property Owner

  • "This property obviously has a fantastic location but is let down by the actual property itself."

Both terrace doors are a nightnare to open and shut. The bedding is poor quality, the bedside tables were covered in hair, the mat at the side of the bed was tea stained and sticky. The kettle was filthy, the first two plates, a glass and forks I took out were greasy and had food on them. There were crisps stuck on the stack of coffee tables. Just awful. I sat on a lounger on the terrace and felt the elastic was going to give way. The headrest is broken. All in all we would not recommend and felt the property. It also smelt terribly of dogs, even though it says pet free. Maybe it was a damp doormat? The door was sodden. To be fair Sykes did offer a cleaner, but we missed the call and voice mail. But really - the property should be clean when you move in

Thank you for your comments, we are glad that you loved the location as much as we do but sorry to read the rest of your feedback. We had the Housekeeping Manager attend after your departure and they felt that there were no faults with the cleanliness of the property. We have a very vigilant cleaner who looks after 2 Argyle so we are surprised that there were any cleanliness issues to report. We apologise that we missed you on the phone, we would have been very happy to attend in person to rectify any problems. Regarding the maintenance comments, we will have a member of our team attend to resolve this. We appreciate you taking the time to feedback to us. The Lyme Bay Team. Property Owner

Clean, tidy, comfy bed. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The welcome pack of tea, coffee and snacks were very much appreciated. The views from the property are fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for more.

  • "What a view!"

I was sad to leave here. The apartment had all you need including a greatly kitted out kitchen. Decor good , certain parts looking a little tired but nothing major. Needless to say an amazing location but the lack of vehicle access to the property needs to be made clearer and that the only nearby parking is short term.

As the apartment is literally on the seafront the views are unspoilt and spectacular, even when there sun isn't shining the view is just as good. We recommend parking in the long-stay carp park at Holmbush, top of Cobb Road. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "It would have been nice if the garden had been looked after better especially around the path areas."

We are sorry about the garden, although it is described as 'wild' which is both accurate and designed to moderate expectations. That having been said, we had planned to do some gardening in July, but the weather on Saturdays (the only day possible as it is the handover day) made it difficult. Property Owner

  • "This is a return visit to this property."

The position of the property, balcony facility, proximity to the beach, Welcome Pack, equipment facilities and cleanliness are all excellent. The one star is lost because we found the sofa rather uncomfortable, the cupboards above the bed are a nuisance when you lean over the bedside cupboard then stand up. The patio seats would benefit from an upgrade. However we have already booked for 2023 as this has to be one of the best-positioned flats in Lyme Regis!

Thanks for your comments. This is the first time someone has complained about the sofa. Our choice of sofas is limited by two factors: one, we need to provide a sofa bed for couples who, for whatever reason, do not wish to share a bed; two, our old building (dating from the 1830s) with its odd angles and narrow corridors, makes it very difficult to get a complete sofa of any sort into the living room. The same constraints mean that we have to get storage in where we can, and this includes the cupboards over the bed. The picnic table on the balcony is to be replaced next year. Property Owner

  • "Practical flat but interior rather dated."

Heated towel rail non functioning. Tv box didn’t work. Cheap kettle boiled over when used. Wardrobe arrangement annoying above bed as easy to bang your head on it! Upside- Balcony a great plus and the reason we chose the holiday let. Downside- No sound proofing between us and top flat so could hear every footstep - esp small children crashing around very early in the morning! Because of that would not stay there again.

We are sorry to hear of your problems. I hope that you reported the non-functioning items to LBH, for it is very good at sorting these things out quickly. The heated towel rail is certainly now functioning, as is the TV box. The latter is provided with a set of instructions which, we hope, makes the process clear. Wardrobe and noise problems are related to the compromises one has to make to occupy a nearly two-hundred-year-old building with an impressive view. I'm only sorry that that you did not find it worthwhile. Property Owner

The bathroom is a little tired but is functional with a good shower. The beachfront location is the highlight. We would love to stay there again.

Thank you for your comments. We had intended to renovate the shower room but were overtaken by the pandemic and its consequences. The renovation will now take place between late November and early December this year. Property Owner

  • "Really like the property have booked again for next year."

My only comment is that there were no odds and ends in the kitchen. In past properties there have been condiments and odds of cooking ingredients left by previous occupants. There were also no tea towels. This is just a comment from previous properties that we have rented. It did not detract from our enjoyment overall.

Thank you for your comments, which we appreciate. There certainly should have been tea towels, and we will find out what went wrong. However, we have to say that we positively discourage people from leaving any foodstuffs behind. Quite apart from the fact that many guests feel that such leavings indicate that the flat has not be well cleaned, there may be risks in terms of health to subsequent guests. Property Owner

  • "Only a minor point, and certainly not a deal breaker - the access to the garden at the rear was overgrown with brambles, meaning we couldn’t use it."

We stayed there last year, having looked at it on previous visits. It didn’t disappoint, hence going again this year. We had a delightful stay, and can honestly say that it’s the best place we’ve ever stayed in our many visits to Lyme. Can’t envisage staying anywhere else. Going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the sea on the shingle.

We must apologise for the state of the garden. It is described as 'wild', but it certainly should be accessible and usable! I'm afraid that the pandemic and subsequent months made it more difficult than usual for us to do any gardening. This month we have started to return it to the borders of civilisation, and plan to do more in September. It should now be accessible and, we hope, enjoyable. In 2023 a handrail will be installed on the steps leading up to the garden so as to make it more accessible. Property Owner
