10 Customer Reviews

  • "This is a lovely house which we have visited before."

It provides a great place to stay for a holiday in Lyme Regis. However, we have the same complaints as the previous reviewer. As fans of the Olympics, we were extremely disappointed that we couldn't see key events because of the poor quality of the wifi. Additionally, only one purple bag was provided and these are essential to comply with local refuse disposal rules.

  • "We had another super stay at Anchor House - it really is the perfect home away from home for our family."

A few new pieces of furniture were lovely additions and some of the bedrooms had been reconfigured which we thought worked out really well. Also, the patio/garden had been cleared so we could enjoy some drinks outside! We had a few issues with the WiFi - it stopped completely for large chunks of Thursday - and the oven seemed slightly temperamental (worked eventually but took a very long time to heat up!). One minor issue is that we were only provided with one purple bin bag so when we needed another we had to source it from other households! I think an extra few should be provided, particularly for a week long stay in a big house. These are of course minor comments and overall we had another lovely time at Anchor House - as you’ll have seen, we’ve already rebooked for next year!

  • "A lovely substantial house with plenty of room for the 10 of us."

Plenty of crockery, pots and pans etc. In the centre of all the activity, opposite the small park where the war memorial is, and on an almost level walk to the beach, the Millside, restaurants and pubs. Added bonus of car parking for 3 cars included in the price, close by. I am finding it hard to walk at the moment, so kept to the ground floor, but was comfortable enough as there is a sofa in the large kitchen dining room. The rest of the family accessed the garden, which I believe has 3 different access points from the upper levels (the house is on 4 levels). We had a problem with the shower on the ground floor, but this was sorted quickly by the maintenance team. One thing to note is that this particular bathroom uses a macerator which can be pongy. I would recommend this house absolutely

  • "At first we thought how well presented was Anchor House, but then, with use, some failings emerged until after a couple of days we complained to Lyme Bay Holidays, whose maintenancer van we had seen in the streets quite frequently."

It seemed that cleaners didn't report any defects. The floor-standing lamp in my ground floor room had a duff bulb, the hot water in my ensuite was supplied from a wall mounted electric heater with delivery through a nozzle which had a spray-end into a tiny basin, wetting the user and the floor. The ventilation fan didn't work, but the bulb was replaced promptly, the fan switch needing a part not in stock. The company contested my observation that the dining table did not accomodate ten people as per property description and were insulting enough to suggest other charis could be brought from other rooms. The sheer fact of the matter was that the table could not squeeze ten around its perimeter. Suffering badly from rheumatoid arthritis I didn't venture upstairs further than the living room but one of my sons told me that a light didn't work in their shower room. The two long settees were uncomfortable with backs which were too low to support your head. There was no visible stock of spare toilet rolls so one of my daughters-in-law had to buy some. Thanks to non-working shower vent, my room carried an increasingly unpleasant odour from which my nose will never recover! Also the bed was one which would adapt to a double by pulling out another single from beneath; but looking at it this, would not seem to be wise as the 'double' would be so low as impossible to get out of with my RA. Very disappointing indeed, there were also some small patches of plaster which had come away. The positives were that nine of us stayed in centre of town close to the beach.

Anchor House offers large accommodation in the centre of Lyme Regis and has many period features and is furnished sympathetically. The owner is intending to replace some of the furnishings during the coming months to further improve the guest experience. We're pleased that our team were able to assist with the small issues during your stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Mostly good."

Very good location. The bedrooms were very spacious and comfortable. Lounge and kitchen comfortable and lots of equipment in the kitchen although it took an age to warm up the oven. The downside was the bathrooms, the one downstairs being the worst. No lock on the door a very rusty looking radiator and a damp smell, we didn’t use it. Only a bath in the top on suite although it must have had a shower at some point as it had a shower fitting. Family bathroom dark and needed more shelving and hooks. Poor tv reception. Only having one set of keys for the front door was a bit of an issue for 3 families. Lyme Bay Holidays were very efficient when we had a blocked toilet.

Thank you for your comments. The owner is planning to make some improvements during the winter and we will pass on your feedback. We can supply additional keys if required, but would encourage guests to use the key safe during their stay. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Ideally situated, very clean and well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge."

3 car parking a huge bonus. The decor in some areas is tired and needs a quick refresh. The outside terrace was basic but the BBQ needs replacing or renovating (not used)and the metal chairs are very rusty and would benefit by being painted or better still replaced. However we enjoyed our stay very much and the house was good value.

We're pleased to be able to offer this lovely house that's full of quirky features, right in the centre of Lyme, and are glad that you had a fabulous holiday. We have passed on your comments regarding the bbq and garden chairs to the owner for consideration. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "We had great time in Lyme as always."

A growing family, 10 now, 76 to 3 years old plus a babe in arms, we finally found a lovely property with great character to suit us all. A great location. Hopefully for years to come. Everyone asked could we go next year? A lot of time spent in the amazing kitchen, had good weather and visited our favourite places in Lyme. Popped across to Honiton Market and Sidmouth. Highly recommended.

  • "It’s a lovely house with plenty of space and good quality kitchen equipment and furniture and comfortable beds."

It was clean internally. However, we were not able to use the garden because it was very dirty. There are 2 seagull chicks living there which is fine but it needed regular maintenance to be kept clean. I sent you pictures. It was cleaned up with a power hose on Wednesday but of course we left on the Friday.
