  • "We have stayed in Lyme Regis twice before and this was the best property."

Its a lovely place to stay and we loved the open layout and feature windows. Its also very well furnished. It was very clean and well equiped but the damp in the ensuite is overpowering and I would suggest this needs adressing. The smell was very strong. Location is great and we managed to get a small car in the garage and park the larger one in the car park. We would consider staying here again but please give it a little TLC.

  • "Great property, very comfortable and wonderful outside space and view."

Decking looks brand new. I travelled with a baby, so would have been nice to have a washing machine (I wrongly assumed there would be one). The description on the property needs to be updated to say includes WiFi, I saw a previous person comment on it also. I'd add the height restriction on the garage for the electric door component, we made it okay but a lot of cars wouldn't. I also had to contact the booking agent to find out the cot size for bringing own bedding, would be good if that was noted on description. Would definitely stay again! Thank you!

  • "This is our second stay at this property."

The garden decking has been upgraded since our last stay and it’s fab. The kitchen is again, well equipped and the beds very comfortable. My only negative is the en-suite could do with some upgrading/work. It is definitely damp in there-you can smell the damp and it’s evident on the walls. There was a slight damp smell when I opened the kitchen cupboards too-but no evidence of damp there. It’s a lovely property, fabulous space and great little enclosed outside space. Please upgrade the en-suite and address the damp issue. Thank you Lyme Regis for another wonderful holiday xxxx

  • "Lovely property."

The pictures in the listing don’t do it justice. It’s a lot larger than expected. Quite quirky. Fabulous sea views. Nice seating area with a shelter which was ideal for shade and would also be good in light showers. Well stocked with everything needed. Especially in the kitchen. Nice welcome bag with some essentials. The property does have Wi-Fi. The listing suggested both it did and didn’t so probably needs updating. Good location. Short walk to the centre. A couple of small supermarkets nearby. Close to the Town Mill which is worth exploring. We didn’t appreciate how hilly Lyme is. My husband struggled to walk back as he’s injured his leg, but buses were regular and stopped nearby. Only slight negatives. We’d have liked more towels as one medium and one towel per person wasn’t ideal. Especially as we also needed hand towels for the en-suite and bathroom. As per other reviews many of the items in the kitchen could do with a wash. We put all the items we’d use in the dishwasher on arrival. The kitchen trays etc were also filthy as was the hidden drawer and oven gloves under the cooker. We washed the trays etc but left the gloves as we’d taken our own. The wall cupboards with plates and cups smelt, as mentioned in a previous review. We left the doors open to air but it didn’t help. We plumped up the cushions on the sofa and it was quite dirty under the cushions. Otherwise the property was clean. There were issues from the neighbouring property the first weekend. We wondered if the property was a rental, but fortunately the occupants were only there over the weekend. Key collection and drop off was easy and the office wasn’t far from the property. We’d be happy to stay again.

  • "This accommodation did disappoint sadly - it was generally clean but we found 2 off dead flies on the carpet - one in each bedroom on arrival."

Overall there was a damp musty smell - you could not hang anything in the wardrobes due to the smell - the kitchen cupboards were the same, damp & musty. If you are planning to stay a week and have kids - there is no washing machine - surprising given the size of the kitchen? There are stains on the sofa. It was super to have a garage but it is so narrow and short I struggled to get my saloon car in and it is a devil to reverse out onto the mega busy road - so be mindful of this. There was a very nice welcome pack with biscuits and fudge - thank you for this.

  • "Amazing view and perfect location."

Great to have parking space. Very comfortable living room and main bedroom but the twin room was like a sauna and very noisy. Smelt musty inside kitchen cupboards - the apartment could benefit from an airing but was otherwise clean. We loved Lyme Regis and hope to return.

  • "On our first visit to The Old Garage a year ago, we arrived to find a stylish property, clearly well maintained and with a generous welcome pack awaiting us."

Based largely on that pleasant experience, we booked to stay there again, but oh, what a difference a year can make! This time, there was no welcome pack at all. For the first time in 30 years of cottage holidays, there was not even a pint of milk in the fridge. Evidence of lack of proper maintenance soon followed. All the saucepans were covered in a brown grease and several items of cutlery were the found to have dried bits of food still on them. We therefore spent the first hour of our holiday cleaning all the cooking utensils. A precautionary wipe of table surfaces revealed they had also not been cleaned properly, and it later became evident that the floors were the same. After a long and tiring journey, all you want to do is sit down with a nice cup of tea and biscuit, not to have to roll your sleeves up to do the owner’s work for them. What do we pay for, after all? There were numerous further observations which included mould on several window frames, stains on cushions when they were turned over, decking rotting in places and the garden clearly overdue for some TLC. We later brought this to the attention of Lyme Bay Holidays who informed us that the property had changed hands since our first visit and the new owner had brought a different approach to its management. Lyme Bay Holidays offered to send a cleaning team in immediately, but by that time, we had settled in and did not want the upheaval this would create. We advised that in our opinion, the property was in need of a deep clean all round. We can only hope the new owner realises that you cannot trade on stylish looking images alone. There are plenty of other properties about whose owners understand the importance of cleanliness and of providing a welcome pack. Need we say more?

  • "A lovely, comfortable property a few minutes from the High Street."

Spacious and comfortable with all fixtures and fittings to a good standard. We would definitely stay again. Not a complaint by any means but just so other occupants are aware it can be a little noisy on the front of the property from the Nags Head a few doors up when it was kicking out time. However it was Christmas and it didn’t bother us at all.

It might be good if a few condiments could be left in the kitchen and we missed the goody bag and milk normally provided by Lyme Bay holidays.

  • "Started badly with an extremely rude conversation in Lyme Bay office."

Also told the electric garage door not working! I’m disabled and lifting it manually was a great strain. The accommodation was excellent. Spacious, beautifully furnished and great having the sliding window, decking, sea view and a beautiful banana tree. Wi-Fi would have been nice as would a welcome pack, to save having to go shopping for essentials after a long drive. I think a washing machine is essential, far more than dish washer - most holiday makers usually eat out

We are sorry to hear that our customer services were not up to our expectations upon your arrival. Unfortunately the electrics to the garage door had failed and we were waiting for the repair specialist visit, apologies the issue wasn't resolved during your stay. We have made the owner aware of your comments regarding the washing machine and welcome pack provision. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "We found the cottage through Vrbo and in the description it clearly says "WiFi, fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price."

" It said this on 15 August and I have a dated screen shot to prove it. It is not accurate. There was no WiFi and one of the guests was unable to attend the holiday because of this. I wonder what would be the outcome if the description said "swimming pool" and there was not one. We spoke to Paul at Sykes cottages who called the Lyme Regis office and said the description had been corrected on the 5 May. That is economical with the truth. It was inaccurate on Vrbo on 15 August. We asked Paul to send a list of local cafes and pubs with Wifi. He simply sent a list of some local establishments. We asked again as we wanted a list of establishments WITH WiFi. Paul never replied. Disappointing in the extreme and falling short of honesty, A copy of this feedback has been sent to the CEOs of Vrbo and Sykes Cottages.

We are sorry to hear of your experience and have raised a case file on your behalf to ensure that the matter is looked into. The owner has never offered WIFI, and this has been clearly marketed on the Lyme Bay Holidays and Sykes websites. We have referred the listing on VRBO to our partners team. The owner is still awaiting an installation date for WIFI. We hope you enjoyed the property and your time in Lyme Regis. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner
