  • "We had an amazing stay at Tregona."

The property was much more spacious than we expected, and was very well equipped. Comfy bed and sofa, and very peaceful. Safe and secure garden for our dog!! We always managed to park either just outside the church or by the school, so didn't find this a problem and the pathway to the cottage really not that far for luggage etc. The village itself is a delight, as are the locals. Fantastic local pub, lovely walks in and around the village, and last but no least the sound of the church bells. We will be back for sure.

Dear Julie Thank you so much for the lovely feedback and we are so glad enjoyed your stay at Tregona. We very recently changed the sofas, following a few comments about the previous ones, and so are thrilled that you found them comfy. Also we will pass on your comments about the Drake Manor Inn to Mandy & her staff. Many thanks again James & Mary Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our second stay in this property."

There are a few minor repairs to be done inside the house. Access after dark is tricky and so perhaps some better lighting to the path and steps on the way into the house could be achieved? Older visitors might really struggle with this. The property was spotlessly clean and very well equipped.

Hi Susan, we are so glad you enjoyed your return visit to Tregona & Buckland Monachorum. We have tried to tackle the lighting outside with motion sensor lights where we can but a section of the path is out of our control and so we can’t get lighting there. We are very aware about the access and when asked about accessibility we make it very clear that it’s not perfect. We hope the tranquility of the tucked away location made it worthwhile. Also we are going to be tackling repairs during the quiet season when there are fewer bookings, we have recently replaced the mattress & sofas after comments. Thank you again and maybe you will return. Property Owner

Beautiful views of Dartmoor and only a short drive to Tavistock which was also great to explore. Our dog loved it too and everywhere was really dog friendly, we can’t wait to come back again soon!

We are so relaxed and ready to come back. Our first break away at Christmas I was very apprehensive about going away that time of year. The cottage is amazing We spent most of our time curled up on the sofa. Everything is at the cottage you can possibly need. Just take yourself some clothes and food you won't want to leave. We didn't the garden area is lovely and quiet we had a few visitors a lovely cat. Squirrels and a Robin. James and Mary have a little gem in Tregona you won't regret booking. I have read that people have had issues with the path way. Yes it's a bit dark on public path but the cottage outside lights are more than adequate. My husband is disabled with problems with his mobility he managed the pathway fine with a little extra care. This little gem set in a stunning friendly village is a must go and visit. The pub is lovely and friendly and is really close to property. Thank you everyone we met there for making us welcome. Shame we didn't get to meet James and Mary. But that just shows you how well everything is maintained and all you needs and requirements are met. Thank you so much James and Mary from the bottom of our hearts 5** be back again next year. Jimmy and Heidi

Dear Jimmy & Heidi, Thank you so very much for the lovely feedback following your stay and we are so glad you enjoyed your first Christmas alone in a while and that the access proved not to be a problem. • "Absolutely wonderful property for a relaxing stay."

Located in the lovely village of Buckland Monachorum, perfect for those who enjoy Dartmoor and the surrounding villages/towns and even Plymouth City. There is no dedicated parking but we didn’t find this to be an issue during our stay & the bus that comes into the village is very handy for those not wanting to always drive. The pathway is mentioned in previous reviews but actually it was managed by an elderly gentleman with limited mobility - just had to take it easy and as with any stay in the countryside bring a torch/head torch as the pathway is dark up until you reach the propertys perimeter and automatic lighting comes on. I Would definitely recommend as had such a lovely stay, the friendly owners are willing and so helpful in answering all of the questions I had prior to our stay too. We will be back! Thank you.

The sofa's were a little too soft and low for me to get very comfortable but this minor point is the reason for not giving straight 5's in the marks. Lot's of useful information provided by the hosts, with many good walks in the area. It was a shame our dog had to be on the lead most of the time but this was due to lot's of sheep with lambs, and ponies with foals. The local pub, less than 100yards away, served great food and was very friendly. We would highly recommend the property for a Dartmoor holiday.

We are so glad you were able to make the most of the information we have provided and that the Drake Manor Inn lived up to its well deserved reputation. The bed was very comfortable and the large TV in the bedroom is a bit of luxury. The bath is situated under Velux windows, so a treat to soak in and stare up at the blue sky and trees. The village itself is great, with a flourishing pub within stumbling distance and set within Dartmoor itself. I appreciated a call from James the owner, to let me know the property was ready for me earlier than the 3pm check in. I had an enjoyable tranquil stay. I personally found the airfreshner product unpleasant, completely overwhelming and unnecessary...in fact it had it's own mini break, in the garden, during my stay! Other than that I really enjoyed my time at Tregona.

  • "Tregona is not a 'cottage' It stands in what was the grounds of the old village school and I suspect it was either a school hall or extra classrooms."

It is a concrete framed building with infill walls, and subjectively it is not the most attractive looking of buildings from the outside. However the conversion to residential accomodation has been done really well. There are only three rooms, a very large living room/dining room/kitchen area. A large bathroom with toilet/bath and separate shower and a good size double bedroom. It was pleasing that any temptation to squeeze another bedroom in was avoided and the whole accomodation as not cramped. There are no ceilings as such, the rooms are as high as the apex of the roof, lending itself to the light airy feel, but making for a noisy time in heavy rainfall, there was a very large thunderstorm while we were there. There is more than enough crockery and kitchen ware for two people, meaning you can fill the dishwasher before needing to use it. Outside there is a garden area with patio table and chairs, but a downside is none of the windows overlook any sort of view of the surrounding area. Location wise, it is in the centre of the village and a very short walk to the pub. It is also fairly central for a lot of attractions and a short drive from the main Plymouth-Tavistock road. If you are looking for chocolate box pretty, this may not be for you, but we thoroughly enjoyed our week in the cottage and the village.

Thank you for your comprehensive feedback and yes, you are right about it being an extension building to the old school. Beautiful location. The Landlords were very kind and helpful with anything we needed. The cottage has everything you need to make you feel at home including dishwasher and a washing machine plus all other handy appliances. Very comfy sofas and TV both in the living room and bedroom. The only tiny thing is that the mattress was too soft for our liking, we prefer a firmer mattress but it might be perfect for other people. There was parking right next to the cottage which was really good as well and a pub right around the corner. We had a meal there and it was delicious and the staff very friendly. Definitely recommend the stay.
