  • "It was a real experience staying on a working farm."

Personally I would prefer a place nearer the town of Bude. It meant a lot more driving to get to anywhere on typical narrow Cornish roads. We got into a routine of going out once, and not returning until late afternoon then stay in for the evening. There was no walkable pub, shop, restaurant. Having said this the Barn was very well equipped and comfortable.

  • "Had we known that this property had a very dangerous approach (single track winding road with lots of blind corners and hardly any passing places), we would not have booked it."

On our first night there we nearly had a head on collision with another very aggressive driver. The collision was only avoided by our hesitant and careful driving. The other driver kept coming at us forcing us back for a long way, despite a passing place not far behind him. In addition the farmer arrived in the evening to advise that due to problems with water flow, the en-suite toilet cistern had to be filled manually. I spent a lot of time filling up the cistern with jugs of water. There was a slight mention of water pressure problems in other reviews but we felt this was significantly down played and did not reflect the full extent of the problem. However, we had comfortable sofas for the evening, a good sized table to sit around and the beds weren't bad.

  • "We didn’t want to leave!"

The dairy is a beautiful house surrounded by rolling hills and cows…lots of cows! The little park was a hit with the children who have lots of steam to burn off. Johnathan(the owner/farmer) made use feel very welcome and introduced himself on arrival. We had an issue with my glasses…Johnathan came and saved the day with extra small screwdrivers to fix them. He is a very kind thoughtful chap! He also made our 4 year olds week by letting him Sit in his tractor(he is obsessed with tractors) The little ponds are down the road, they aren’t immediately on your door step, so as long as you don’t let your children roam the whole farm alone, they aren’t a danger. You do not need to take anything extra like towels, bottle openers, all kitchen accessories, it’s all there! There is even a tea pot and cafetière ready to use. The washing machine and dishwasher work as they should and are added bonuses as I certainly don’t want to be taking wet smelly clothes home or washing up all holiday! Do remember this is a working farm(cows…lots of lady cows who have the freedom to roam and enter the milking station at their own accord 24/7) Even with the cows roaming, it is silent, peaceful and relaxing. We will be back next year! Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Thank you for your feedback. So pleased you felt so welcome and that we were able to help make your holiday one to remember. We are looking forward to seeing you soon. Property Owner

Also the farm cat visited lots,we even bought cat food for it during our stay. Nothing like waking up and the first sound you hear is the cows mooing. Only negative was the shower water pressure,But to be honest you expect it when your in the middle of nowhere so wouldn't hesitate to go back to The Dairy in the future. Nice little gift of a jug af fresh milk and a packet of biscuits when we arrived, also the farmer/owner popped round to make sure everything was OK and that we were settling in OK.

Everything we needed at house for a great week away, only issue was that there was limited water for showers at some points of day-literally no water! But only seemed to affect at certain points so not sure if when everyone in all the cottages using at same time? Wasn’t massive issue for us as we were out most days and always plenty first thing and in afternoons but just to be aware. We would definitely stay again -as location was brilliant , both the farm and surrounding

  • "The cottage was brilliant and all our needs were met."

The owner was really friendly and said we could contact them if we needed anything. The children and I believe the adults liked seeing the cows waiting to be milked. The farm itself is close to lots of beaches and we really enjoyed our ramble down to Duckpool beach doing a scavenger hunt on the way. It can be a bit dicey on some of the lanes we drove carefully as we bumped into tractors, hedge cutters and vans. The London inn pup in a near by village served excellent home cooked food with super child friendly staff.

About the location

BUDE

Tintagel 17 miles.

Kilkhampton is an historic Cornish village, 4 miles from the popular Victorian seaside resort of Bude, one of Cornwall’s premier holiday locations. With its old church, village shops and atmospheric village pubs, Kilkhampton is a lovely place to relax after a hard day exploring the stunning beaches and spectacular coastal scenery for which the area is famous. Bude’s beaches attract surfers from all over the country and when conditions are right you’d be hard pushed to find better surf. When the tide is out, miles of golden sand and hundreds of rock pools keep visitors occupied for hours. The South West Coast Path, and many other rights-of-way winding over the clifftops and through lush green fields looking out over the sea, make this area a haven for walkers and lovers of the open countryside. For those who prefer staying closer to home, a good shopping centre and a selection of pubs, two clubs and restaurants are on offer. Bude canal, a registered nature reserve, passes through the town, and rowing a boat along its calm waters or walking the towpath among the beautiful (and friendly) water fowl that live among the reeds is a great way to spend an hour or two. Within the area there are also 2 golf courses, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley at the leisure centre. A perfect location for all that North Cornwall has to offer.
