The property

The Farmhouse is one of the three lovely holiday homes on Burnville Farm, looking like it came from a child's picture book.

It is big and old and stands on the edge of the traditional Devon farmyard.

Leave your boots in the hall and head through to the comfy sitting room with its traditional beams, off which is a bright sun room for fine days.

The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals to enjoy around the big sociable table beside the open fire in the dining room, where fascinatingly the table is an ancient dough trough.

The four comfortable bedrooms are all upstairs, peaceful places to sleep well after busy days exploring the area and enjoying the farm amenities.

Outside, you will find your own big enclosed pretty garden with lawn, trees, stream and barbecue 20 yards from the house.

Beyond this, there is as much freedom and fun as you could wish for.

You are welcome to wander the 250 acre farm and help when possible, picnic beside the pond, swim in the shared seasonal outdoor swimming pool, play tennis and use the shared games room and gym.

Maybe arrange with the friendly owners to try clay pigeon shooting and archery or hire mountain bikes and head out over the open moorland which surrounds the farm or on the Granite Way cycle trail (small extra charges apply).

This is brilliant walking country too, or if you have horses you can bring them and ride since stabling and grazing are available.

Golf and gliding can be arranged nearby and Roadford Lake is excellent for water sports.

With so many activities available, yet in such a peaceful spot, The Farmhouse is an ideal location for a fabulous family break.

The Farmhouse can be booked with two other properties - 1168946 (The Red Barn) and 1168944 (The Coach House).

Burnville Farm Cottages

2 miles south-west of Lydford and 1 from its gorge, 400 yards of private farm-lane end at Burnville Farm, a lovely farmstead. It is on the side of a shallow stream-valley with supreme views of Dartmoor hills and tors and to Brentor’s peak-top church, from almost anywhere on the 250 acre working farm (direct moor access from it). There are sheep, cattle, ponies, pigs, chickens, ornamental pheasants. You can roam the farm and help is most welcome. Pond (picnicking) with mallard, moorhen and usually Canada geese in spring; badgers and foxes about. Stabling/grazing for your own ponies/horses. Clay pigeon shooting and instruction, archery tuition (equipment provided) and mountain bikes (adults’ and children’s) by arrangement. Fenced outdoor heated swimming pool (32' x 16' and 3'6" to 8' deep, available 23rd May to 12th September) and newly resurfaced hard tennis court shared with owners. Fun badminton and volleyball. Games room (6' pool table, table tennis, skittle alley) and well-equipped gym in a refurbished barn. Lovely walled vegetable garden; fresh veg available in season, and eggs. Spring water. Professional catering available and meals in the owners' house. Golf and gliding, 2 miles. For you to stay in are The Farmhouse, The Coach House about 100 yards up the private lane, or The Red Barn a mile away. The owners live nearby but out of sight and do B&B in their own house a mile away by car or a 10 minute walk across Burnville Farm, is The Red Barn, surrounded by its own enclosed garden with terrace (barbecue) at the back and splendid long views over farmland to the moor.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
