  • "We had another lovely stay at Hazel Cottage in August - the second time we've stayed here."

The hosts accommodated a special request without any problems, and we found the cottage as clean, comfortable and well appointed as when we stayed here before. The warm indoor pool in the complex is a key reason why we stay here - it's weatherproof and there's always something to do. There's a feeling of seclusion to the cottages at Trevalgas, it never feels too busy or noisy. The garden was kept mowed and the apple tree had had a haircut. There's space to run around for kids. Bude's beaches and shops are about a 5 min drive away; we had wonderfully fresh eggs from a nearby farm; and in the terrible weather in our week there, we drove the 45 mins across the border to Devon a few times for rollerskating at Stoppers Roller Rink and trampolining at Air Extreme - fantastic indoor activities for kids. We also found excellent fish and chips by the Quay at Bideford. We would stay here again whenever I can in future: it's a bit like a home from home.

Oh, what a wonderful review- thank you so much! It was lovely to welcome you back. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the cottage, gardens and pool. You have certainly found some excellent activities for children too - I will make a note for future reference. As always, I look forward to welcoming you back in the future. We were not able to use it unless we climbed on a chair. No specific cooking dishes or lids were provided for microwave use. We were provided with out of date key collection instructions by Sykes and no return procedure provided by anyone. There was no information provided by Sykes regarding the steep inclines throughout the site.

I would like to reassure guests that the microwave is approximately 4 feet from the floor and is very stable. The site itself is not particularly slopey, although the property does have a slopey section but does have a picture on the Sykes advert regarding this, plus a bullet point with this information. The key collection details sent out prior to arrival do have information about the key safe location and key code number and guests can of course just pop the keys back into the safe on departure. I will provide some microwave dishes and thank you for that suggestion. Property Owner

It has everything you could wish for to make your stay comfortable and happy. The owner supplies tea, coffee, milk and biscuits so you are able to make a drink whilst you settle in. There are several supermarkets in Bude if needed. There is just one pub/restaurant within easy walking distance, but Bude is 5 minutes drive away and there are details of other restaurants provided in an information pack. We found it difficult to arrange a to collect us from Bude one night, so I would advise booking in advance. The site is well maintained, with a good size swimming pool. There is also a laundry room which would be useful if the weather was wet and clothes needed drying. Communication with the owner was excellent. We will definitely return.

The Cottage itself is cosy and comfortable with an enclosed back garden and a lovely sunny decked area. With an elderly Labrador we really appreciated the accommodation all being on one level. The owners really have thought of everything to make this home from home. The bed and sofa are both really comfortable and looked brand new. There were several welcoming touches. A pint of milk in the fridge, Coffee Tea, Biscuits and even dog biscuits and bowls! It made us feel so welcome. We made good use of the swimming pool and table tennis table. We took time to relax and on sunny days we found sitting on the sun deck peaceful and relaxing, it’s so quiet and tranquil. There was only the occasional sound of a donkey braying in the distance which we loved! Our first stay in Bude and I’m sure we will be back and would definitely return to Hazel Cottage. A 5 minute walk to the local pub - also recommended very friendly, great food and dogs allowed even inside!

We are pleased you found our cottage nice and comfortable, but sorry to hear of your disappointment outside. Unfortunately, being in the countryside and with the humid weather we have experienced recently, the wild garlic and horse flies will have increased. As you can see from previous reviews, we have not had any issues prior to this. Barking dogs in other cottages must have been annoying, but totally out of our control on a small site that accepts pets. If you had spoken to the housekeeper about this, she would have bought some sprays immediately and spoken to the other dog owners regarding your concerns. We will make sure sprays are available should future guests need them. Wishing you a good summer. Denise (Owner). Property Owner

Upon arriving, our cottage looked even more beautiful than in the pictures! It was spotless inside and smelt really fresh which was instantly reassuring. Everything we needed was there, loads of utensils, nice selection of glasses, pots and pans, even ice cube trays, games, dvds etc. The little garden terrace area was perfect too with a nice seating setup. We had great weather while we were there and it was an ideal spot for a bit of alfresco dining, the gardens and grounds were well maintained and it really was a lovely tranquil spot to relax in and look over. The cottage is in a great location, about a 5 minute drive to the various sandy beaches near by and town centre of Bude where there’s lots of shops and restaurants. The beach parking is expensive but you can download an app to pay on your phone so you haven’t got to worry about having loads of change, which was ideal for us. About the location

BUDE

Tintagel 17 miles.

Bude is a fabulous coastal town that once visited you will want to come back to time and time again. Bude has something for everyone, great beaches for relaxing, and building sandcastles on, rockpools for investigating at low tide and cafes to watch it all from. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round, and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the North Cornwall coastal path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area and Heritage Centre at Bude Castle. It also has a good selection of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, pubs, restaurants and excellent Information Centre. Within a short drive are the remains of a huge iron age hill fort at Warbstow Bury, from where panoramic views can be seen. For days out, take the coast road north to see the lonely lighthouse above the sea at Hartland Point or walk or ride a donkey down the steep and cobbled village street (no cars allowed) of beautiful Clovelly to the harbour and the pub far below. Follow the coast in the other direction and there's the little cove of Crackington Haven, Boscastle, King Arthur's castle at Tintagel, Doc Martin's Port Wenn at Port Isaac and yet more great surfing beaches at Polzeath.
