  • "Very clean and comfortable."

Nice and quiet and just minutes away from the harbour.

Dear Gareth, It is so nice to have you back at Harbour Cottage and we are very happy to hear that you had a good time again! Thank you for your great feedback. It means a lot to us! All the best, Raphaelle and Stuart Property Owner

  • "Lovely property, very clean and comfortable and well equipped."

Well placed for harbour, pubs and restaurants, everything walkable. Only criticism was the garden was unusable as it was very overgrown, we tried to cut back a little bit of the buddlejia and grasses, but too much to do. Would definitely come again thanks.

Dear Deborah, Thank you for your feedback, it is so valuable to understand how we can do better and make your stay more enjoyable. We are very sorry you could not use the garden to the full. Thank you for making us aware of it. We have addressed this issue and spent time to make sure the garden is back to what it should be…a welcoming small chilling area where people can enjoy the sunshine. We hope you will visit us again soon and enjoy some time in Harbour Cottage’s garden too. Best wishes, Raphaelle and Stuart Property Owner

  • "Garden needs cutting back."

Went to open a bottle of wine and the bottle opener is broken ( wine denied), otherwise it is lovely and sympathetically decorated cottage and the little extras like the different dried herbs and oil, dishwasher tablets etc were a nice touch. We will book again.

Dear Karen, Thank you for your feedback! We really appreciate the time you’ve taken to tell us about your stay with us and we are very sorry you struggled using the garden. We have now fully addressed the issue and are making sure the garden will be a lovely place to enjoy the sun all year long…though unfortunately, we can’t guarantee the sunshine! We hope to welcome you soon again at Harbour Cottage…and we have a new bottle opener. Best regards, Raphaelle and Stuart Property Owner

  • "This is our second year using this property and on the whole we found it very comfortable and clean."

However we did have problems opening and keeping open the windows in the living room and bedrooms. We picked a very warm week and this was very frustrating. Apart from that we had an instance when a handle came off a cupboard that had clearly been damaged before. One final thing I lost a pair of glasses and wondered if they had been found? All things considered we hope to book again next year.

Dear Gareth, Thank you for coming back and stay in our little cottage. Your feedback means a lot to us. The windows in the living room and bedrooms were replaced a couple of years ago, they can open from the bottom and the top. The bottom sash will slide back down for safety reasons (stopping young children to venture out), you can open the top and this will remain open. I have dropped a message to our cleaners for your glasses, and will keep you posted. We look forward to seeing you next year! Property Owner

  • "A mixed review."

Great location and the cottage had a well equipped kitchen. The garden is a nice feature and is sunny until the end of the day. However the main bathroom being on the ground floor, while the bedrooms are on the second floor is not ideal. We had the second bedroom set up as a twin room. The room is tiny, you can barely walk around the beds and neither of us could unpack as there was not sufficient storage. The twin beds were incredibly narrow (about the width of a pillow) but the quilts were single size and kept falling off during the night. The ground floor bathroom has no ventilation so it was very steamy and musty. The cottage is nicely decorated and has attractive artwork. Being a cottage there are lots of stairs, so it would not suit elderly people or families with young children. I would recommend the cottage for couples. The proximity to local shops, pubs and the harbour is one of the best things about the property.

Dear Sara, Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate your time in telling us how you found your stay at Harbour Cottage. The house was built in the early 1800s and belongs to one of the oldest part of the town, which makes its charm but also explains the quirky layout. There is a stair gate at the top of the first stairs which we hope helped you divide areas and there is a window in the ground floor bathroom that can be opened if the room became too steamy. We are very pleased you enjoyed the artwork (from Ilfracombe local artists) and the location and access to the shops and pubs, it is a lovely part of town. Kind regards, Raphaelle and Stuart Property Owner

  • "The property was perfect."

Very well equipped and in a brilliant location within the town. The place was very clean. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of games, dvds and jigsaws for bad weather. The Xbox was a lovely touch although we found this affected the signal of the lounge tv if both were on at the same time. We would definitely recommend Harbour cottage and would choose to stay here again if we were in the area.

  • "We had a lovely short stay in Harbour Cottage -perfect location in Ilfracombe."

We had thought parking may be an issue but always spaces in the car park and worked out much cheaper than we thought. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and great for just two of us & a small dog. In the fine weather the outside area would be lovely, we didn’t get to use it really as so early in the season.

Dear Susan, Thank you for your amazing feedback! It means a lot to us. You are right! Ropery car park is ideally situated less than 30 meters from the cottage which makes it easy to park and it is indeed reasonably priced. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again next year, hopefully later in the season when you can make full use of our lovely garden and our sun terrace. • "We really enjoyed it and everything we needed was at our fingertips."

Very clean cottage and didn’t want to leave after a weeks holiday. So much to do in the local area even when wet. Only issue we had but wasn’t a real problem, we struggled to get any main channels on the TV.

Dear Andrew, Many thanks for the positive feedback. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay. We are very sorry about the issue with the TV and are looking into it. Luckily Ilfracombe and the area have a lot to offer and we are pleased you were able to enjoy your week, even on rainy days. Hopefully you found the board games too for cosy evenings "at home". • "Many thanks for a wonderful stay."

The cottage was in a superb location and we spent the week walking the coast path from Porlock to Ilfracombe. We were unable to get the televisions working or the video player but once we had established how to connect the cables, we found the signal so weak that we were unable to watch a programme. We realise is not the fault of the owners. We had no problems at all with the cleanliness of the property. Having lived in an old terraced cottage ourselves, we found the same issues at Harbour Cottage as we experienced at home: black sooty like dust escapes from the loft spaces and was to be found on the floors and surfaces in tiny amounts. We have no complaints about this at all - part of the charm of living in a period property and it was evident that the property is cleaned regularly and to a high standard. Thanks for the milk left in the fridge and tea/coffee. This was lovely as we had come on a long journey and arrived late at night. The outside spaces are lovely. A cream tea was enjoyed on the top terrace using the jam left by the owners. Thank you for a lovely stay. Kay and Neerose

Dear Kay and Neerose, Thank you for the very nice feedback. We are very pleased you found Harbour Cottage's location so ideal. It is really a stone through from all attractions in the town and brilliant for walks. We always find it a great base to explore North Devon and Exmoor by foot or by car. We are sorry you had some trouble with the TV connection. Hopefully it didn't spoil your stay. We have been told there were some short term internet problems in the last few weeks. Nevertheless we are taking note of your comments and will update our guest handbook to try and be clearer with how the TV and video player connect and how to access channels through the wifi. We are really keen to make sure our guests feel welcome and it is very nice to hear you enjoyed the jam and the milk, tea and coffee. Once again, thank you for the lovely feedback and we hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Raphaelle and Stuart. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay, but it was not especially clean."

We would like to be able to send a couple of photos to corroborate this, the hard floors in toilets, bathrooms and kitchens were basically filthy. Wiping with a square of damp kitchen paper, it came back almost black with grime. We also had to empty the vacuum cleaner before we could use it - it was absolutely stuffed full and had clearly not been emptied for a good while. In this age of supposedly deep cleaning, this was a great disappointment and we are generally understanding of expectations. Thank you.

Dear Richard, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to read that the house wasn't in an acceptable state. We were also surprised as we have so far only received very positive feedback on the house and the cleaning in particular. We are very keen to make sure that our customers have a great experience at Harbour Cottage and therefore have left the cleaning company number in our House Book as well as direct feedback cards in the kitchen so that any issues can be resolved immediately. We take cleanliness extremely seriously and have contacted our cleaners straight away to understand what happened and ensure that this does not happen in the future. We can only apologise and hope, despite this issue, that you had a nice stay at Harbour Cottage. Best Wishes, Raphaelle and Stuart Property Owner

Dear Sophie, We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Harbour Cottage!
