  • "We found the cottage from the directions with no difficulty."

We then played rock paper scissors to see who would brave the narrow passage to the designated parking spot! The house is great and in a brilliant location, couldn’t ask for more. Neighbours were really friendly also. A few minor maintenance issues, shared with Sykes, and a bit more creakier than we are used to, especially during night time toilet visits. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

  • "Very lovely cottage with a nice garden in easy walking distance to the beach, and even closer to pub, cafe and supermarket in Charmouth."

We were six persons (2 adults, 4 kids) and stayed for one week and were very happy!

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Moonfleet Cottage."

It was ideally situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, yet only a few yards from the village centre and a short walk to the beach. The cottage was nicely furnished, clean and comfortable and could quite easily accommodate a family of six, although we were just a retired couple. We enjoyed sitting in the enclosed, private garden after our days out. Having noted previous holidaymakers comments concerning the off road parking, we found it wasn't a problem for us. On arrival we reversed slowly to the allocated parking area by the garage. A useful map located on the kitchen wall showed alternative/additional spaces with some parking permits in a plastic wallet, which we would have used had our car been larger or if we'd brought more than one car with us. We have a Skoda Yeti (SUV) which is just under 6ft wide. However, having senior bus passes, we did use the local buses for days out to Lyme Regis and Bridport etc. and it was an advantage that the bus stops were very close to the cottage. Charmouth village itself is beautiful and The George Public House was nearby with plenty of tables inside and outside in their garden. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was good.Other food outlets including the Fish Bar/Pizzeria and cafes meant we didn't have to walk far for a takeaway or a light lunch. Also the local grocery shop sold practically everything you might need if you were intending to cater for your family at the cottage. Overall this was an excellent holiday choice for us.

  • "A lovely house brilliant location in Charmouth, well kept and equipped."

Location wise for the village its perfect 10 minutes walk to the beach, shop very handy. Would be nice if basics like salt pepper were provided. People like added value and I think many would appreciate basic welcome pack a pint of milk a few tea bags ? It's just a nice touch. The house its self is a good size and comfortable, previous reviews mention sofa/chairs being hard? We found them comfortable if a little tired. The stairs were also mentioned in previous reviews as noisy, they are very if it were my home I would sort this as they are very noisy walking up and down, not an issue unless everyone is in bed asleep. Parking in the allocated parking was impossible for us, my Saab 9-5 would have just made it if I folded in the mirror's but as there is no room to turn round reversing out would have been a major issue especially if the next door family were home with their car. We parked to the front of the property close in to the house and had no issues. The locals are very friendly and pleasant. I think it would be useful to potential visitors to advise that midsized or larger cars will not fit down the side of the property and you have to reverse out which if there's any cars out the front will be problematic at best. Small cars would have no issues. I do think this needs mentioning, SUVs Saabs and larger family cars beware.. As I said though we overcome this easily enough. In summary great location, comfortable, reasonable value and friendly locals. I would recommend

It is best to reverse down to the Garage at the rear of the house for Parking. We've managed to get a Toyota Rav 4 with a trailer on the back reversed down there. Just depends on the drivers ability to be able to handle their vehicle . The gap is narrow and only 8 feet wide, but it is even possible to back a Ford Tranisit flatbed truck down their. The builder managed it a couple of years ago! Property Owner

  • "Firstly, the issues with parking really impacted our holiday."

Two different neighbours approached us and asked us not to park on their section of the street (one of which didn’t have a car!). Two of our party had mobility issues and the parking with the cottage was inaccessible with our large vehicle. There was insufficient space to open the doors wide enough. The cottage itself is not really suitable for people with mobility issues. There are no bannister for example. The cleaning was also poor. There were cobwebs throughout and dirty pots. There were lots of minor issues that I tried to report but the phone wasn’t answered (leaking taps, temperamental cooker) and others that had been in the visitor book since 2018. The positives - the cottage is in a nice quiet park of town, is comfortable and has plenty of space. The kitchen facilities are great. We enjoyed the garden and walking to the beach. On arrival day, we had a small issue and received a personal visit, which was great service!

We are sorry to hear that the level of cleanliness didn't reach your expectations upon arrival, and have asked our Housekeeping Team to check it. We have also arranged for our Maintenance Team to look into the leaking taps (not specified which ones) and the cooker. The Lyme Bay Team I would suggest that if you have specific requirements in respect of mobility access, it would be worth checking that any property would be able to meet these, prior to making a booking. If stairs are an issue then maybe a Chalet or Bungalow would be more suitable. The cleaning matter is being investigated by the Agent who manages this. All Taps - Bath , Wash Basins x2 and Kitchen Sink have been replaced either in 2022 or 2023. The cloakroom cold tap still seems to be an issue which is being investigated further. Not sure what the exact issue has been with the oven? Sometimes things get broken and aren't reported, making it difficult to rectify in a prompt and timely manner Property Owner

  • "The TV in the lounge could do with updating as it was very slow and also not clear to use iPlayer etc."

The TV in the bedroom did quite a lot of updates in the night - this created a blue flashing light which woke us up! Could this be turned off? Property was very clean

Thank you for letting us know about the bedroom t.v. we will ask our Maintenance Team to attend and investigate. The Lyme Bay Team The TV in the Bedroom has now been replaced - thank you for drawing this to our attention. The TV in the Lounge is functioning correctly. The issue appears to have been with the BT Superfast Broadband. They have sent an Openreach engineer to check and he's replaced certain connection components, within the socket and all is now working as expected Property Owner

  • "Cottage is a great base for exploring the Jurassic Coast!"

Well equipped and clean. We would definitely stay there again. Had a lovely few days. I would be clearer about parking arrangements so not to upset residents. The access to the back is very tight. The neighbours were very helpful and advised the best place to park but could see how this might cause problems.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a good time and feel like you would like to make a return visist. You are very welcome to come back, at anytime. We believe the agent should be able to offer you a repeat booker incentive. In respect of the parking arrangements. There are 4 dedicated additional vistor parking bays within the confines of Barneys Close, subject to availability and are used on a first come first served basis. There is also further parking on the entrance to Barneys Close, which is on the unrestricted public road. This is also on a first come first served basis. Moonfleet Cottage is in the fortunate position of being able to offer dedicated parking, unlike some of the other holiday properties within the village. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at Moonfleet cottage before and love the location."

The house is well served with facilities and is clean. We were pleased to see that some redecoration had taken place in the bathroom where there is a build up of steam from the shower. Whilst charming and a great location, the house would benefit from some redecorating and a new bathroom and shower.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you have been able to make a return visit and hope you will return again. We believe the agent should be able to offer you a repeat booker incentive! Property Owner

  • "On arrival, the outside of the property was stunning."

Very nicely placed within the village. The property inside is outdated and in desperate need of refurbishment and not worth the £1500 spent for the week's holiday. The beds were uncomfortable. The hot water tap on the bath was not connected and so we could not run a bath. The showerhead was already broken on the first use and we had to improvise. The sofas were uncomfortable and low to sit on. Every floorboard squeaked. Every room had 'dos' and 'don'ts' messages on the walls making it feel unhomely and sterile. Only 1 key for the front door was made available. The light pendants are too low and my tall husband constantly hit his head on them whilst walking through the property. Parking was an issue and fortunately the neighbours were kind and we were allowed to park directly outside the house. Only terrestrial channels available on the TV.

The property benefits from an ongoing maintenance programme, that includes replacement and redecoration as required before the start of every season. The cottage undergoes an annual inspection where it has been duly awarded a 4 star rating, for many years The details published by Lyme Bay Holidays clearly state the facilities available, in respect of TV facilities and Parking arrangements, along with everything else. There is not a list of do's and don'ts' in every room. The notes are simply there to help / guide the guests It is a cottage, so therefore it naturally doesn't have high ceiling and the light pendants are at regulation height! Broken items, if not reported by previous guests are not always detected straight away, but are fixed as soon as the agent becomes aware. We are sorrry you experienced these broken facilities Property Owner
