  • "Really enjoyed our stay in Courtyard Cottage, very comfortable and clean and, therefore, relaxing for a week’s break."

Many places to visit from our base in Chittlehampton’s pretty village with The Bell Inn, church and lovely little shop/cafe. Our only added suggestion would be a softer light in the kitchen, maybe a lamp on the table or top of fridge. We would certainly recommend Courtyard Cottage

It was amazingly clean and had all the facilities we needed. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the shower was great. They provided us with scones, jam and cream which was lovely. We can’t recommend this cottage too highly. Everyone was so friendly in the village from the shop ( we had breakfast there and bought some produce to take home) to the fantastic pub The Bell where the staff couldn’t do enough for you and where we ate a couple of times. We can’t wait to go back.

Excellent location and it's so quiet away from the road. One thing that would have been nice is an outside washing line, perhaps in the garden, as I struggled to dry some washing as our weather wasn't that great, however there is an aira to use. Apart from that we couldn't fault the facilities and would definitely recommend to others!! A visit to the local farm shop for the tasty pasties and the scones is a must! Thanks for a lovely week!!!

The house is the cleanest we have ever stayed in. The beds were very comfortable. There is a lovely sun trap garden with table and chairs. Everyone in the village was so friendly and the pub was great with fabulous views at the back and well priced food. If you like using public transport there is a train that stops at Umberleigh which is a couple of miles away. You can go to Barnstaple or Exeter from there where there are lots of buses leave from there. Nice day out if you have children. All round good holiday.

We were given full reign of the area around the cottage including the entrance courtyard, the bbq area and the lovely long secluded garden which were all used. The owners were very happy for us to have family visiting in the daytime a couple of days which gave us a lovely 'extended family' holiday. Beautiful part of Devon. We love the north Devon beaches so ideal location. Very friendly owners who kept to themselves unless needed. Would highly recommend.

It was nice to walk into a clean, welcoming home after our long trip, and the cream tea and flowers were a lovely touch. The house is full of little, thoughtful touches such as automatic nightlights along the upstairs hallway and in the front room, and information booklets for the house and surrounding areas. The house was ideal for our family and our children (both under 7) loved playing in the garden. The location is nice and quiet but easy to get to local attractions. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely stay here again. Thank you to Ian and Karen!

However twin beds size in the 2nd room is shorter as compared to standard bed size, making it difficult for a normal adult to sleep on it. Although the cottage was neat and clean but we spotted a spider and another bug on duvets in the 2nd room. But owners are very nice and they allowed us to check in a bit earlier.

We walked into the cottage and boy its perfect ! What we noticed firstly was the lovely gifts Ian & Karen had left out, what a lovely welcoming. My wife has OCD and will wipe over sides clean cutlery etc but the cottage was so clean we just walked in and settled straight away. Clear instructions in all the rooms for how to use everything. In the kitchen particularly everything you could need had you forgotten anything, these guys really care about your stay. The village is lovely and quiet even on the busy periods. The church bells although ring for 2 hours on a Tuesday you could hardly hear them but it really didn't taint anything for our stay. The Pub is a must with lovely food and lovely people. We wouldn't hesitate to come back and hopefully in the future we can, it was a perfect stay away made better by the hosts Thank you Karen & Ian my only regret which I'm sure they both know is that I cant live there !!!

Such a beautiful place. Ian and Karen were very welcoming, and it was lovely to have met them. The grounds were immaculately kept, and the cottage was beautiful. It was lovely to have Wi-Fi and all the programmes on the TV at night. The pub over the road was also welcoming early evening. Wonderful places to visit, easy to get to places for shopping. Small corner shop in village was handy for little things you need. Wonderful Walks about, and the church is a must to visit. The churchyard is also well kept. Lovely for a quiet retreat. Had wondered about the noise from the school adjacent, but didn't know school was open they were so quiet. Church bells rung Tuesday evening, we both loved the bells, couldn't really hear them from the cottage even though it was close to the church. I hope to go again in the near future. Thank you. Karen and Ian went above and beyond to make our stay like a home from home, including lending us flour for a meal one night and letting us use their tumble dryer so I could dry my daughters' comfort blankets. They were great at recommending local places to eat and visit, and the house itself was so cosy and comfy and spotless, too. The beds were really comfortable and there were lots of lovely added touches like the welcome basket of scones and milk. The living room was really comfy and it was great to have access to Netflix and other streaming apps so that our young daughters could watch their favourite TV while we cooked dinner. The garden was also beautiful, we just needed some sunshine to enjoy it! Thanks for a lovely stay and a huge thank you to Karen and Ian for looking after us so well.
