  • "Saltwind Granary was a fantastic place to stay."

The tasteful decor created a fresh, clean and comfortable atmosphere As we entered for the first time, we were pleased with the high standard of the cottage and felt happy with our choice. The kitchen was well equipped and there were plenty of resources such as games, maps, information, a pair of binoculars and small torches. The beds were comfy and the rooms were spotless. The attention to detail was excellent and we loved staying there. The cows in the field near where we parked greeted us each day which was an added extra and the views were stunning. Communication with Sykes and the owners was excellent and we extended our stay slightly. Thank you so much, I would highly recommend this property.

  • "Good Points."

Cottage presented really well. Clean. Nice bedding. Nice towels. Heating heats up really fast. Nice strong shower. Cutlery good. Welcome pack - Nice supply of sachet tea, coffee and biscuits. Nicely furnished and finished to an excellent standard throughout. Nice grounds. Minor Complaints. No parasol Outside bin full on arrival Outside table needs cleaning Garden neglected Patio furniture splitting (the plastic wicker) No spare bin bags Weeds Knives in knife block wouldn’t cut butter Only 2 dishwasher tablets The Bad. Place is surrounded by fields and we arrived when farmers were harvesting. This means we had days on end of the holiday ruined by the constant loud machinery noise. **This went on from 7AM till 10PM !** There are no restrictions on the times a farmer can use machinery it seems. We could not open windows or doors when it was hot due to the noise. We also couldn’t use the garden as just too loud! Booking Company - Sykes I wanted to try and get some info about arrival, and also to see if someone (Sykes, host or management company) could possibly find out from the farmers roughly what day the machinery will stop, as we were going to leave early as it was driving us nuts. Sykes have been the worst booking company I have dealt with. I will actively avoid this company in the future. Impossible to contact. Try calling and you get a voice recording saying “Text us or WhatsApp us”. When you do you don’t get a reply for 5 hours. And then each reply has several hours in between, if you are lucky enough to get one. I sent a message on WhatsApp, they sent auto responder saying “received message, will be in touch”. 24 hours later they sent another saying “as it’s been 24 hours we can no longer respond!” Unreal! They offer no flexibility at all. VRBO and others will contact host or management to find answers, Sykes just say “don’t know, tough”.

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet location."

Lots of coastal walks all around the Hartland peninsula and extremely quiet everywhere. Amazing views from the coast path and very easy to do circular walks back through farmland. The cottage is very well designed and equipped throughout. The owners have thought of everything that may be needed! The only disappointment was the garden, which gets very little sun (due to a large overgrown tree) and the rattan sun loungers definitely need to be replaced. Hartland has 3 good pubs and a village shop. Roads are very quiet, most likely only to encounter a tractor! Overall a fantastic relaxing week spent at this cottage

  • "Saltwind Granary was as we expected it, be it we had stayed there before in 2013."

However we found bags of rubbish left in the rear garden from previous occupiers which had been attacked by vermin, the contents strewn about. No rubbish bags had been left in the property. This was rectified mid week by calling customers services. The rear garden looked unkept, the recliners wearing thin, the area had not been weeded yet other larger properties near by were immaculate.

Unfortunately the broadband failed towards the end of our stay which was a nuscence. Of course this wasn't the fault of the owner. Otherwise a lovely place to stay!

  • "A lovely property, very homely and well designed."

We enjoyed our stay immensely. However please can you provide extra household items for future guests. There were only two dishwasher tablets, two bin bags, one hand soap and very little washing up liquid. The dishwasher had also run out of rinse aid and salt which meant it was very ineffective.

Hi there, our collection of properties are all self-catering so a minimal amount of basic kitchen/cleaning items will be provided. Property Owner

  • "Our cottage itself was generally good - clean and well presented, and we enjoyed our stay - except for the long trip (80 paces) with steps and gravel path to the allotted car parking spaces - this meant that unloading the car (the first part of our holiday!"

) was very difficult and physically very demanding for an elderly couple as we are. If we had been told about that - we would not have booked this cottage. Location is good with access to great walks and by car to beaches and a shop for stocking up. The external steps from the first floor living area to the garden are very steep and difficult to use, but being able to open the french doors for fresh air was good. I should think that air conditioning or some fans would be essential if the temperature gets above about 25 degrees C though. The galley kitchen needs a cupboard to store any food which is not in the fridge, because at present you have to use the meagre work surface to store non fridge foods- so then you have hardly any work surface left!. At present there is no cupboard for storing food. The fridge freezer was very good though. It would certainly have helped us if there had been some kind of personal welcome (particularly if they could help us carry our bags etc the 80 paces from the car). And some kind of welcoming gesture when we arrived in the property would have been gratefully appreciated.

  • "Lovely well equipped place perfect for 3."

Location is extremely quiet. You need to be prepared for small lanes to get to it. You can see the sea from the balcony and the garden catches the sun most of the day. Well positioned to drop into Cornwall or to stay in Devon. Local village of Hartland has some good pubs, tea room and gallery/studios. Coastal path on the doorstop. Owners responsive over queries. High quality bedding and towels.

Only downside was the long lengths of single track roads in last few miles to cottage. Often had to reverse a fair way to find a pull in.

Not very restful, rather stressful and wouldn’t hurry back.

Thank you for your feedback, please accept our sincere apologies. We hope you understand that the issues were unexpected and we made every effort to resolve them and minimise the impact on your stay, especially as you were only there for a short time Property Owner

Location is quite remote with narrow, single track roads to contend with in the local area. We were lucky with the weather and so had some great walks on the magnificent coast, and great days out visiting Lynton/Lynmouth and RHS Rosemoor.

Everything you needed was thought of including the binoculars and torches. Unfortunately we didn't get to sit in the garden as not warm enough but would love to come back and try again with the weather. I loved the silence of the location and we could even see the sea from the balcony. This accommodation was an absolute delight. Could have lived there. I'll be back for sure.

Whilst bedding ,towels and surfaces were clean, all glass surfaces including mirrors, shower screen and windows were dirty. Cobwebs were prevalent through the cottage, especially around windows. Shower cubicle was unusable because of a blocked drain.Owner and Sykes were contacted..... Sykes returned the call, which was appreciated but in an email, the owner made it clear that he would only be remedying the problem after our departure. Apparently it should have been sorted by the cleaner. Not really 5 Star treatment! With hindsight I should have asked the contact from Sykes to get it resolved instead of just accepting it was going to be out of use for the whole week.
