  • "A lovely property that was just as described and perfect for our week in Lyme Regis."

It's in a great location and the views lived up to expectations, although you do need to be reasonably fit for the walk back up the hill from the seafront. There was everything we wanted and a very useful welcome pack on arrival. It was always warm and comfortable with some nice touches such as an outside hosepipe to clean sand or mud from mucky boots and paws. A larger screen TV would be beneficial for people who have plans to stay in and watch. We had a lovely stay and definitely plan to return.

  • "Great location - BUT Maries is in a wonderful location, with hilltop sea views, 10 mins walk through the public gardens to the top of the high street and 2 mins walk to the coastal path."

However, the immediate neighbours have installed a basketball hoop. When the son is playing it is thump, thump, thump on the decking every second. It is so loud we could hear it inside with all doors & windows shut and over the TV, which made it impossible to sit outside late afternoon/early evening and enjoy the beautiful view !!! I have videos to prove I am not exaggerating. Internally, the main bedroom is delightful, light, airy and with splendid views. The rest of the cottage was much darker than I expected from the photos, and most rooms needed the lights on even on the sunniest of days. As mentioned by previous visitors the lounge needs a bigger TV.

  • "We loved it at Maries."

Key pick-up and drop-off was an easy process. Everything had been thought of for our comfort. TV, puzzzles and games too. There was a welcome pack on arrival, which came in very handy. Everything was lovely and clean. No shortage of kitchen utensils, crockery, or cutlery. The views are spectacular from the main bedrom and balcony. It is a hilly walk down to the sea front and we found the stairs quicker and easier than the road. Non-slip shoes are handy if it rains. The only thing I would suggest to others would be to perhaps take extra towels and tea towels. The beds are on the firm side. On the other hand, we did all sleep well. We would come back and in fact have already booked for next year. Thank you!

  • "Maries is a beautiful cottage with a great location, both for the beach and town, but also for touring the area."

If you're not confident with steep drives there's plenty of room to park off road at the bottom of the drive. The cottage was very clean and is extremely well equipped with enough crockery and cutlery for many people. The washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker and microwave are all in excellent condition and worked perfectly. There is a large lounge and the dining area has a beautiful sea view. The only minor criticism we have is the TV is too small for the room size. The master bedroom is very big with plenty of storage space with a balcony overlooking the bay. We would not hesitate to return another year.

  • "My friend and I really enjoyed our stay at Maries, it really is a lovely cottage and was perfect for our stay."

The cottage is charming and was lovely and warm, which was welcome, as although we had fine weather, the wind chill factor made it cooler. Although we didn't eat at the cottage, except for breakfast, it had all the equipment for doing so. There are great views of the jurassic coast line, lovely to wake up to...... I would definitely recommend Maries and we will be looking to book later in the year, or early next year.

  • "Although the cottage itself was lovely ,we found it a bit annoying that the key safe was not attached to the property and that when we had a power cut on our first night the burgular alarm was going off all night and after ringing at 9."

15 the next day it still took a second phone call at 4.oclock before it was sorted. I know you don't know when power cuts are going to happen but after talking to the guys fixing it SW power it seems this is quite a regular occurance on this road ,so it maybe worth have external monitoring on the alarm so not to disturb customers holidays. Regards Tim

We are pleased to hear that you found Maries to be a lovely cottage. The alarm is designed to sound when the power is cut and to stop after 15 minutes. Power cuts are not a regular feature in this road. This is the first to be reported in the 14 years we have been managing the property. We are sorry that the power cut affected the beginning of your stay. Property Owner

  • "This is an amazing property."

Firstly the views are really special overlooking the bay. The property is spacious and is VERY well equipped. We visited in December and it was warm with a plentiful supply of hot water dispensed from a good shower. The welcome pack contained a generous selection of local fayre. The beds were wonderfully comfortable with an assortment of cupboards for storage. We loved the atmosphere of the cottage and felt sad to leave. Many safety features had been considered enabling my elderly husband to relax including safety handles in the shower, night lights, bannisters and of course the house is on one level. The description on the site is accurate including the parking though tight is definitely doable. I also like the versatility of the property as it offers scope for sharing with another couple whilst having the space for a bit of privacy. There is also a conservatory to enjoy as well. The gardens contain an interesting selection including flowering camellias in December and seating to eat/ drink outside. We would highly recommend this property.

Everything we needed and more, very well equipped and beautifully presented. Nice and warm despite the cold weather and the snow we had on the Thursday! Particularly enjoyed the gas logs, very cosy! Our 2 small dogs settled in quickly and enjoyed the back garden and shrubbery, while we could relax as it seemed well secured! We’ve already booked for March next year as we enjoyed it so much!

Booked again next year.Widening the entrance has made all the difference to access for even large cars. An Amazon firestick is a useful addition to the TV in the lounge.. Trees slightly obscure the fireworks on Bonfire night. Our Pugs did not escape the confines of the back garden. Shame they allowed next door to build in front of the building line and to the height he has. What were the planning committee thinking of!!

Only minor comments would be that property was clean on arrival but worktops a bit sticky/tacky. Dishwasher needed salt. Also bushes on drive need to be trimmed a little. However we were get very happy with the property and would return without hesitation

We're so pleased to hear that you really enjoyed your stay. Maries offers a great location to both the beaches and the town. The dishwasher tablets provided are all-in-one to prevent having to top up with rinse aid and salt. We look forward to welcoming you for a return visit. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

  • "Had a really fabulous week."

Couldn’t believe how well equipped the property was, even a coffee pod machine. Location was ideal, no passing traffic on a private road! A short downhill walk to the town and beach, but a good climb back up, However there is even a shopping trolley in the cupboard!! The only down was that the fence in the rear garden is not beagle proof but only a minor issue for us. Thank you for a great week.

  • "The property was great, very well located and probably our favourite holiday rental we have been to."

There were however a couple of areas that, whilst we were aware of, had an impact on our stay. Firstly, the driveway really isn't suitable for modern vehicles. We were aware that it would be tight, but as there were no pictures it's hard to judge from the comment in the details alone. Whilst we were able to get in and out, great care had to be taken. Please add more representative pictures in the property details. The second was the building work going on next door. Again we were aware of this, but it did mean we couldn't really enjoy the outside space. There were people working on the exterior and roof in full view and they had a radio on constantly. We could quite clearly hear their conversations and "banter".

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to be able to offer parking at the property, as parking spaces can be difficult to come by in Lyme. We do describe the parking access to ensure people are aware before booking. The adjacent building works were due to be complete by the end of May and we have reached out to the owner for an update. I have contacted the owner to make them aware of your comments. The Lyme Bay Team Property Owner

I have to congratulate the owners, who have put a lot of thought, care and love into this house. As soon as you enter and are greeted with the beautiful gift hamper, you are put in the right frame of mind for a wonderful stay. I also need to praise the housekeeper....it was spotlessly clean throughout...thank you. The location is wonderful with footpaths just seconds from the end of the drive. If you cannot walk to the main streets and promenade, there are car parks close by. Thank you, I cannot fault the property in any way.

  • "We've returned to Maries several times as it just suits us perfectly."

Its clean and comfortable with wonderful views and the position is perfect adjacent to the cliff walks and within easy distance to town and seafront. We also enjoy its peaceful location. I first stayed in Maries in approx 1966/7 when I was a child with my family, my mother knew the owner at that time. I was pleased to read the history in the information file. Although the alarm is not activated it sounded on the Monday morning. On speaking to the maintenance people and entering the code it emerged that the sounder box could have a fault and the maintenance people duly informed the alarm provider. . We were slightly concerned that the alarm would go off again during our duration but fortunately not. Do hope this problem has been rectified.
