"We have stayed in other properties in cumber close and have found them to be very comfortable and well equipped."
Merlin was a huge disappointment. When we arrived the house smelt extremely damp and not at all clean. We found damp patches in both bedrooms and the living room. The sofas are not at all comfortable to sit on. The window frames were dirty. The blind on the smaller bedroom was mouldy. Whilst I usually take reviews with a pinch of salt the reviews in this property are totally accurate about the property. The area however continues to be incredibly beautiful and never lets you down.

"This is not a bungalow, it is a Chalet in a terrace of properties, on a council estate,we would not have chosen this property if this had been in the description, the photo's show private parking which it has but there is cars parked all round the estate which makes it difficult to get on and off the drive as they park opposite the drive!"
The chalet was OK but window frames inside and out were dirty, sofa's are uncomfortable, it had all you needed to cook, we left a day early as I had had enough of the area, everywhere you went to visit the roads are atrocious, most are single track, even the main A roads are terrible not wide enough for two vehicles, you end up doing a lot of reversing, thus takes you ages to get anywhere, would be a nightmare in the summer!

"Property tired."
Extractor fan defective.cottage is a chalet,in a council estate.electric fire in lounge not working.twin room has no proper curtain, main bedroom had musty smell, sofa in lounge was not comfortable because cushions moved. Not value for money. Extractor fan reported but not repaired. Listing is not accurate. Maintenance of property was lacking. Have requested response from company or owners.
Many thanks for taking the time for leaving your feedback. We visited the property during your stay and after your departure to look at the extractor fan and found nothing to be wrong, we can only apologise that you felt this wasn’t the case. We will of course pass your comments onto the owner. We were surprised you did not like to positioning of Merlin, it is located on Cumber Close, which is popular with tourist as it is situated between Salcombe and Kingsbridge, it is also a short distance from Hope Cove and Thurlestone making it central to the surrounding Seaside Towns and villages. We do hope you still had a lovely holiday and enjoy all that the area has to offer. Property Owner

"Merlin was fine for our stay in Salcombe although a little away from the town."
I thought the main bed mattress was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Also found that the Sofa's were also uncomfortable. Sorry to be negative but you have asked.

"Suited our needs very well; we could've done with a bit more sunshine though!"
Agree that a calendar would be useful for the rubbish collection. We loved the sail blind!

"The property is not a cottage, but rather a chalet."
It does smell of damp and has been mentioned by other people. The parking is a big issue. We had 2 flat tyres as they hit the kerb edge as we had to move the car back and forth. Residents in the area really do not care where they park. Usually a truck or van was parked across this narrow road. There is no storage for clothes in the second bedroom and the main bedroom has a built in cupboard which houses the mop bucket and some laundry of sorts. Certainly would not put my clothes in there. The situation of the chalet is ideal to getting around the area and does have adequate facilities in the kitchen. Maybe a shower screen and not a shower curtain for hygiene.

"The cottage was ok though seemed a little tired and the second bedroom should be specified for children only."
There is a shortage of hooks or hanging space in that room. Also the bathroom would benefit from some hooks . There is a need for a welcome pack with information about the bin collection, heating instructions etc and some local info especially as it's dog friendly, you need information as to where you can take the dog as walks are in short supply . Alot of properties also have a welcome pack with milk ,bread etc and this would be extremely welcome here as it's about isolated. The property needs the garden attending to, lots of weeds and overgrown especially along the entrance steps.

"Nice little house at a good price."
We had a good time. Would be good to put a proper blind in the small bedroom, we ended up hanging a throw over the window as the price of sail did not stop any light in the morning. Thicker duvets would be good too. Otherwise all good.

"The spare bedroom was small."

"I stayed at Merlin for 4 weeks in between my house sale and new house purchase back in Southampton."
I work from home so, with all our my furniture in storage, my dog and I headed for Devon! I have been a regular visitor to the area for over 50 years and love it there! Merlin was an ideal temporary home for us and we absolutely loved our stay there! The house had everything we needed and with all the fabulous beaches, walks, pubs and shops we know and love nearby, it was a perfect place to stay! Whilst we are now finally in our new home, I miss the place! We will be back! Thank you!

"Second bedroom not clear in description, very small and no storage space , think bunk beds would be more appropriate, not end to end beds parking space not really suitable for two cars, bit of a tight squeeze and parking in street abysmal, too congested ."
Would not stay there again

"Merlin was nice, clean, cheery accommodation which met our needs."
It was better equipped than most holiday lets which felt thoughtful. Some places you can’t visit the loo on arrival without unpacking soap but in Merlin there were supplies of kitchen cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets, laundry capsules, toilet paper etc. There was also good WiFi & excellent tv provision, not just freeview. And a tv in the master bedroom. Which was nice. If you are happy to drive everywhere & do not mind your immediate surroundings I would recommend Merlin. If you don’t mind long walks you can access at least 3 beaches on foot. However, Malborough is not nice at all. The village centre is moderately pretty (nice, historic church), but tiny with no pavement & a constant stream of traffic making it hairy to walk through, especially with dog & kids. The location of Merlin is a massive built up council estate with so many parked cars it can be hard to get off the driveway. There are countryside views. The walk from Merlin to the village is an exercise in dodging dog poo. We love dogs but it felt like going back to a time when no one bothered picking up after their animals. Having said that, we had a wonderful time walking to Hope Cove (scenic countryside & coastal views), Salcombe (cycle path but next to a road so not such a nice walk but amazing destination) & Soar Mill Cove (pretty countryside walk with coastal views), all from Malborough. Only attempt these walks if you are keen, fit walkers & your kids are not too small or moany. You’re talking at least an hour each way for all of them. The South Hams is a stunning area we loved exploring.

"Great little holiday home for us, kids and dog!"

"We very much enjoyed our stay at Merlin, it was cosy and clean and was fully equipped with all we needed."
The beds were comfy and the shower was great - instant hot water. A bonus was the washing machine and dish washer. Would we stay there again if we were in that area definitely yes

"The location was not good."
The place smelt of dogs. The sofas were not comfotable.
We welcome and value all feedback as we want to work to ensure that our Merlin visitors have the best possible holiday experience. Any pros and cons of the property's location are reflected in its cost of course, but being so central to Salcombe, Thurlestone Sands and Hope Cove by car, bus, bicycle and on foot (North Sands is only a one and a half mile walk away), it really is perfect for exploring this beautiful area. The property services team have been asked to be sure to clean and air Merlin even more thoroughly when our doggie guests leave.
