"The house was a good base in a good location for north Devon places."
We had a great week here, walking distance to the beach and general facilities. The house had all the things for a great weeks stay. It was located up a hill with narrow corners for a long/big vehicle, but carefully managed are OK.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday in Gorwell house."
The property is well equipped with good quality furniture and fittings and generally in good condition. It was great to have a kitchen with plenty of good quality equipment as we did a lot of cooking ourselves. We never ran out of cutlery of crockery before we set the dishwasher off, which is unusual! It would be useful to have a slatted spoon for serving vegetables. The beds were very comfortable, and there is a good supply of games and beach toys. We appreciated having the two lounges. The flow from the electric shower is not especially powerful. The second WC is very useful, but it has no wash basin so we used hand gel. The garden is lovely, it gets plenty of sunshine and there are a number of different places to sit. As others have commented, the property is not really suitable for those with limited mobility, as it is sited on the side of a hill, so the garden is multi-level with numerous slightly uneven paths. As it is a couple of hundred years old, it is inevitable that one or two areas smell a bit damp, but that did not bother us. The owner, Gary, is easy to contact, and is very helpful and friendly. He helped us to sort out a couple of minor issues. Combe Martin beach is only 5 minutes walk away, but there is a short very steep section on the lane to descend. The beach is great at low tide, it becomes very extensive with a large area of sand and plenty of rock pools to explore. It does get quite small at high tide.

"Lovely cottage, spacious and homely."
Very steep hill to access. Beach 5 minutes away, lots of things to do nearby. Vast selection of games which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you
-
"Beautiful, spacious property."
Everything catered for. Lots of games, puzzles, buckets and spades, nets, books. Loved the views. Owner easy to contact and friendly. We had problem with hot water but it was because it is fed by hot water tank which had run out due to someone running a bath, not a combi boiler, but heated up quickly. Would highly recommend and will be booking this again in the future. Thank you for making our holiday lush.

"First thing that hit us was the musty damp smell of the property."
The sofa and chairs were unhygienic and not as the picture on the site. The whole property needs a thorough deep clean. Seasonal bedding needs attention as the current duvet and pillow covers are best served for the summer months. We live in a coastal village but still felt extremely cold in our beds. Towels not fit for purpose. Are was nice and we spent our week harbour fishing, weather was pleasant which helped soothe our overall disappointment of the cottage.

"Well we had a great time, the house was well equipped and large enough for our family with four bedrooms and two sitting rooms."
The garden was lovely we liked chilling out on the top table taking in the views of the valley. Yes we would definitely consider coming back at some point in the future .

"Really enjoyed our stay at Gorwell House."
Helpful welcome email with all the details we could need. The house was clean and tidy on arrival. Big enough for six, well equipped and very comfortable beds. Great location in the heart of Combe Martin with easy access to local coast walks, beach, shops, pubs & the North Devon coast & moors. Garden on several levels with steep steps. If anything, the washing machine was a bit fiddly to use. Overall, nice comfortable family sized home.

"This is beautiful cottage which has been tastefully appointed with good quality furniture, and the beds were wonderful!"
There were plenty of books, games and puzzles for when the weather let us down and Gorwell House quickly felt like home. Gary could not have been more obliging and we certainly hope to return soon. Many thanks for a memorable holiday.

"The house was immaculately clean on our arrival."
Good clear instructions had been sent about key pick up and the operation of dish washer etc. Lovely light roomy bedrooms, kitchen is spacious with good facilities.

"When we arrived the house was clean and tidy."
We also had a pint of milk in the fridge and biscuits. There was plenty of room for 5 of us for the week. The bedrooms are spacious and lots of storage. There's everything you need in the kitchen. There are games, jigsaws DVDS to keep you entertained if you want. I liked having 2 living rooms as the teenagers could sit in one and we had the other. There is a nice quiet area at the front of the house where you can sit outside in the sun. There are also 2 more seating areas in the garden. One is harder to get to being on a hill if you have difficulty walking. The house is situated on a hill up a narrow road. There is a steep drive and a bit scary first time but you get used to it. Parking bay outside . Also you don't have to turn the car in the bay and go back down the same way, you can drive in front of house and loop round. We had a lovely stay and would recommend this house . Good location. Very short walk to shops etc.and nearby other local towns.

"Lovely place to start at the heart of the village."
Everything in the house that we could have wanted.

"We had a great stay at Gorwell House."
It is comfortable, clean and well laid out, with a really lovely garden. The owner is friendly and helpful - I would definitely recommend.
-
"Lovely house really close to the beach."
Access to the house is very steep (both driving and walking!) which could be challenging for some. Lovely quiet area with great views. The house was quite dated and the doors creaked and banged at night, however, we did really enjoy our stay. Good cooking facilities and BBQ is provided although not stated on the listing. We enjoyed trips to Lynton, the Valley of Rocks and Woolacombe beach.
-
"Lovely house within easy distance of the beach."
Nice and cool when it was very hot outside. Lovely decking area for meals.
-
"Most enjoyable holiday greatly helped by exceptionally good weather for Easter."
Short walk to and from the beach was easier than anticipated. Easy car parking although a little tight for turning. Steps up to the property and in the pretty garden would mean it may be unsuitable for people with mobility problems although no issue for us. Our two small grandchildren enjoyed trips out to Watermouth Castle and Barricane beach at Woolacombe.
-
"House perfect but need more information about steep access on foot from the village."
-
"Gorwell House was just right for us."
It was warm, comfortable and well equipped. It was well situated for the beach, coastal walks and hill climbs - all accessible on foot. Our hosts were generous, accommodating and quick to respond to any queries that we had. We would definitely stay there again.
-
"Great location, very close to beach, and very comfortable."
Thankyou for the lovely stay.
-
"Lovely cottage family stay for 6 people, and a short walk to local facilities, pubs, and coast path."
Would recommend to anyone.
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage in an excellent location and really is just a 5 minute stroll from the beach and local shops"
-
"The property is advertised as being 3* and that’s what it is but the entrance through the back door with sadly neglected garden, scuffed step, grubby mat into kitchen and stained and grubby carpets in back sitting and dining rooms was a very poor first impression."
Elsewhere the carpets were fine but the house was over furnished in particular the big heavy wooden bed frames too large for the size of the rooms so was constantly catching my legs walking past. Also description should be more specific about the narrow steep ( albeit short ) access which could be difficult in bad weather.

"Beautiful, comfortable house and very enjoyable holiday in a lovely village."
Only one problem for us, as the curtains are very thin and light we had to go out to buy expensive temporary black out blinds to enable the children to sleep past 5am. Looking at the matching marks on the windows as I put them up, I would say we weren’t the first guests to encounter this issue and may be worth noting for the owners. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

"Gorwell house is positioned on a hillside which gets the evening sun, and still near the beach."
Lovely garden to sit out in and spacious well equipped house.
-
"The access to the property is either via a steep, narrow road or an uneven track, we had an elderly family member in our party who was unable to walk up or down the hill and although we had a wheelchair with us the uneven track was not suitable for the wheelchair so when we went out anywhere we had to use the car."
However this did not stop us having a wonderful relaxing week in a beautiful part of the English countryside.

"We had a very enjoyable stay at Gorwell House."
The cottage is cosy and very well equipped. I would recommend without hesitation. You will not be disappointed
-
"Amazing holiday – the best holiday cottage/house we have ever stayed in."
A true ‘’home from home’’ – fantastic location - awesome views – local amenities on your doorstep! We cannot recommend Gorwell House highly enough. Very clean, comfortable and well presented. We were all very comfortable and loved the 2 separate lounges – allowing us to do seperate activities of an evening if we wanted to. The only thing that would have made the stay slightly more comfortable would have been bigger towels (bath-sheet) and more towels in general. Having said this – we immediately re-booked for next year upon our return home and are all very much looking forward to staying again. A definite 5-star rating! Thank you from The Jeffrey Family.

"Gorwell was a lovely house to stay in."
The only thing that could have improved our stay, would be a better shower. The location is excellent and the locals were very welcoming. I would definitely recommend this property for couples or families.

"A wonderful cottage up a quiet lane a short walk from beach and shops."
The cottage is spacious and nicely furnished. Very homely and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped including a washing machine. We loved playing UNO, watching dvd’s and relaxing with our children after beautiful days cycling the Tarka trail, crabbing on the beach and walking on the coast path. This was a lovely village to be based in the locals were very welcoming. We did the Coomb Martin Museum’s beach safari which was particularly lovely. So much to see a week was not long enough.....

"Excellent location—but clients do need to be told of tricky/steep access Lovely but challenging terraced garden ——not suitable for young families and definitely not for people with mobility issues Two of our family adults were unable to come— if they had, it would have been a tight squeeze esp in dining area There were 4 adults and 2 v small children and that was just fine However- a lovely lovely characterful old house —good ,well equipped ,big kitchen ——and it was literally 5 mins walk from beach We had a delightful week ."
Thankyou

"Just a lovely cottage with a splendid view."
Interesting garden and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. Very quiet with no traffic or other noise.
-
"Very comfortable house, well equipped."
We felt very at home. Pity Sykes cannot quality control the weather!

"We had a great week at Gorwell House in Combe Martin."
Nice village, a beautiful house with all comfort you need. The garden was great, sitting on the deck in the afternoon sun after a tour.
