  • "We really enjoyed our time at Rose Cottage."

It is a beautiful cottage inside and out. We found the facilities to be excellent. We ate in most nights and the kitchen was well equipped, although a lack of cutlery. The lounge was comfortable and snuggly with a roaring fire. We loved the hot tub and made use of it most nights. We had an issue with the heating upstairs in the bedrooms which is on a separate system. The down stairs is all underfloor heating which is excellent. The upstairs heating wouldn't kick in and seemed to be on a timer. The rooms went down to 10 degrees when we woke in the morning. We contacted Charlie who took it off the timer but it took 3 days of the heating being on permanently to finally get up to 18 degrees. The only issue we found with the property was the busy road right outside. The cars at night race past so fast and can be so loud through the vents on the windows. I had to buy some ear plugs to help sort this. We would recommend Rose Cottage as we had a lovely stay and visited some lovely places and quality pubs throughout the area.

  • "Absolutely idyllic, picture perfect and quaint cottage, with amble space for a lovely winter week getaway from city living."

The cottage was extremely cosy, lovely roaring fires with ample wood kindly supplied by owner. Also, we had a lovely welcome treat of Devonshire cream tea upon arrival, thank you, Charlie, very kind to indeed. The beds/bedding was very comfortable and cosy, underfloor heating was a great hit with our travel cat, who spent most of its time sprawled out on the conservatory floor!! This room was wonderful for breakfast and reading, and we spend the few evenings playing board games we found available here too. The hot tub on the cold winter nights was luxuriating, and was very much in use ! We used herbs we found growing in the garden in some of our cooking, adding to the total comfort of cottage life. We also found the cottage to be a great base for exploring, National Trust Castle Drogo, less than 25mts away, and Dartmoor National Park walks. We also found a beautiful restaurant Bearslake Inn for scrumptious dinner, and The Tors pub with great hearty food after a great walk on the Moors, only a mere 15mts drive away from the cottage. Summing up, Rose cottage ticked more boxes than we had even wished for, we loved the property and highly recommend those wishing an idyllic get away in such a beautiful thatched cottage. Thank you Charlie for your hospitality.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re absolutely delighted that you had such a relaxing and enjoyable stay at Rose Cottage. It’s great to hear that the cosy fires, underfloor heating (especially for your travel cat!), and the hot tub added to your comfort. It sounds like you made the most of everything the cottage and the local area have to offer, from board games to delicious meals at Bearslake Inn and The Tors. We truly appreciate your kind words and recommendation, and we’d love to welcome you back for another idyllic getaway in the future! Best wishes, Charlie Property Owner

  • "Overall the cottage was great, especially the hot tub and I was really impressed with the kitchen as everything you could possibly need was there."

However, we struggled a bit with the microwave as no instructions and also none for the normal oven. Personally, we found the beds very, very soft which gave me back ache. However I realise a firm matress is a personal choice. The sofa in the lounge was very lumpy to sit on and the wooden kitchen chairs could do with cushions.

I’m really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the cottage, particularly the hot tub and the well-equipped kitchen. I just wanted to mention that all instruction manuals for the appliances, including the microwave and oven, are in the welcome folder on the table in the kitchen. I appreciate your thoughts on the mattress firmness—comfort preferences can vary, but I’m sorry it wasn’t quite right for you. I also take on board your comments regarding the sofa and kitchen chairs, and I’ll certainly look into ways to improve comfort in these areas. Thanks again for staying with us, and I hope we can welcome you back in the future! Property Owner

  • "We had such a lovely holiday at Rose Cottage."

The description and photos are exactly what is to be expected. My 2 year old son loved the hot tub, and feeding the fish in the pond. So much character at the cottage. The owners have spent money and love getting it to such a standard. The only thing that took us time to work out was the hob, so perhaps an information sheet regarding instructions how to use as well as a central heating guide . A cosy cottage with the fire at night which we supplied our own fuel, was nice relaxing way to unwind after a day of exploring. Great location to explore surrounding area, as well shops close to the cottage to buy supplies. Thank you for letting us stay at your cottage.

Hi. Thank you so much for your review and so glad you enjoyed the stay as much as you did. We do have instruction manuals in the welcome pack for the hob and heating. But we’ve taken onboard your thoughts and placed signs by the cooker to make it even easier. So thank you! We always have extra fuel available for purchase once you have used your starter pack. I do hope you choose to stay with us again. RC Property Owner

  • "A lovely property which was comfy and in a good location for visiting Devon."

Lots of space to spread out with a living room, snug and conservatory together with a big kitchen. Outside was delightful with a garden (up some steps) with a pond and the apples and pears were in season and we're delicious. The hot tub was a favourite and with dark skies it was great to lie in the tub watching the stars. The kitchen whilst having the usual amenities could have had more space for our food to be stored and it would have been good to have had some instructions for the hob and ovens rather than have to text the owner (who replied really quickly). All in all a nice week spent unwinding.

Thank you some much for your great review. Glad you got to enjoy the apples and pears and star gazing! Come back any time! Property Owner

  • "Had a lovely stay at rose cottage everything we needed lovely cottage."

I’m afraid I couldn’t use the hot tub as too difficult for me to get in as have hip and knee replacements and to step in too deep for me , but daughter and son in law enjoyed. The road is very dangerous so backing into the drive was a bit scary maybe loose some of the front garden to make it easier and to go into property driving in ? A full size ironing board and iron would make laundry easier ironing on table top board not the best.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We really appreciate it. So glad you enjoyed your stay xx Property Owner
