  • "This was our second stay here and we enjoyed it just as much as before."

The only problem we had was that when one of our party sat on a dining chair it broke as one of the legs broke off. She was not injured just a bit shaken. I mentioned this in case all the chairs need checking. Also when sitting in the garden we noticed a large number of flies on one of the attic windows. Just another mention in case there is something wrong. We would definitely return and recommend your property.

Dear Val thanks so much for this feedback. I am so sorry about the broken chair and I very much hope that there were no lasting effects for the person involved. We are going take the opportunity to swap the dining chairs for a more modern and secure set. We have also replaced the bed and mattress today. We also apologise for the discomfort experienced by this guest. There were some flies in the attic. Over the last couple of years we have replaced the roof and done a lot now replastering up there and replaced the windows but at this time of the year they seem to accumulate. Fortunately very few have come downstairs. We do hope you will want to come and stay again! with best wishes Lucy Property Owner

Thanks for your positive review. I am afraid there is no food recycling as the council do not collect it from us. It has to go in the main refuse bin. It was lovely to meet you as you left and we hope you had a safe and easy journey home. Property Owner

The property is in need of some maintenance because things like door handles are loose and need refitting. Also it states on the instructions all food should be removed from the property when you leave which we have but someone else obviously hasn’t as the the larder and freezer still had food in them.

Thank you very much for letting us know. We will sort these matters. Property Owner

  • "Generic response from Sykes on our arrival day: if we'd had a serious problem, we would have been in trouble."

The owners were very quick to respond and lovely to deal with. We weren't allowed into the property until 5. By the time we'd unpacked, Sykes automatic system had started and we were left to navigate a very large staircase in the dark. Once I spoke to the owner, it was easy to get the steps and change the bulb. We were lucky no one fell down the stairs on the first night or that it wasn't a major power failure/flood: if it was, then you're on your own. WhatsApp is not an emergency solution.

It oozes charm, nostalgia and romance. As well as the Bluthner piano in the music room there are other musical touches throughout the house which made it an ideal venue to play chamber music with friends. It is a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding beautiful area. Nine of us enjoyed the most incredible time and we are sure to visit again. Thank you to Lucy for her very warm supportive contact by email.

  • "Fantastic property with lots of old worldcharm and modern conveniences."

All the rooms are spacious and well kept. A pleasure’s to spend time in the beautiful gardens with lovely views over the town. We all appreciated the property and gardens. Thank you x Just 2 points, there is no wardrobe in one of the bedrooms so nowhere to hang clothes and we couldnt find a first aid kit when needed, otherwise fantastic.

Thank you so much for this review. We are so glad you enjoyed the house and the views. I am sorry you could not find the first aid kit. When I checked recently it was in the dresser drawer in the kitchen. I will have a look for it, and replace it. The wardrobe is more tricky to fix as we need to move the third piano downstairs to create the space in that room. I am so sorry this lack of hanging space was inconvenient for you. We do hope to welcome you back to the Old Vicarage. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely family holiday here."

The space is amazing with plenty of entertainment for us all. It was a home from home with every comfort provided, well equipped kitchen, games and large garden. Even in hot weather the house was cool. There are a few drawbacks, only one bedroom is en suite so all 8 others had to share a single bathroom & 2 loos. The access to the garden would be difficult for anyone disabled. The garden could have had a bit more shade. But none of this spoiled our pleasure in the property. We had a wonderful stay and recommend it highly.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at the house and found it cool in the hot weather we have experienced recently. We are having a new shower room fitted downstairs in November. This will provide a total of three bathrooms, plus one separate loo. We all enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious and comfortable. The beds were comfy. The bathrooms were spacious and showers were good. The kitchen was well equipped and I was easily able to cook a couple of meals. The only criticism is that the kitchen was not so clean. The splash back, work tops and grill was dirty & I needed to clean them before use. The bin drawer was very dirty so we used a bin liner attached to a drawer handle. This is first holiday cottage we have stayed in that didn’t have a hair dryer or bbq…. The garden was perfect for our dogs. The outdoor dining table and chairs meant we could have meals outside. It would have been lovely if there had been a couple of sun loungers to recline on ….

Thanks so much for your feedback. We are glad you snd your dogs enjoyed your stay. We can only apologise for the problems with the cleaning. We had to let that cleaning company go, and are delighted now that Helen and Taz leave the Old Vicarage clean and ready for our guests. We do have hairdryers now so thanks for recommending this to us. I am afraid we do not have a BBQ. Guests are welcome to use disposable ones if they wish. Property Owner

About the location

TIVERTON

Crediton 12 miles; Exeter 14 miles; Taunton 21 miles.

The largest town in Mid Devon, visit Tiverton for echoes of the past including a romantic castle, and horse-drawn barge trips on the idyllic Grand Western Canal. Occupying a strategic position on two rivers, the Exe and the Lowman, brought Tiverton wealth as a flourishing textile town, resulting in many fine buildings. These include the Jacobean Great House of St. George, three medieval almshouses, and the fantastic parish church of St. Peter with its remarkable frieze of merchant vessels with billowing sails. Another famous building is Old Blundells, immortalised by former pupil R.D. Blackmore in his classic Lorna Doone. However, the town's most famous building is beautiful Tiverton Castle, a royal fortress commissioned in 1106 by Henry I. Find out more about Tiverton's rich heritage at award-winning Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, with 14 galleries of exhibits including the Tivvy Bumper GWR locomotive.
