"We had a lovely stay at Oxford House."
It has a great location in the quiet village of Porlock, next to a beautiful church and the Coaster bus stop. This made it very accessible to get to great beaches in North Devon, providing amazing views along the way. We enjoyed waking to The Porlock Weir hotel for delicious pizza via the beach - this was a lovely walk with a varied landscape. Oxford House is beautifully decorated with lots of art and interesting books. There was plenty of space for 6 of us to stay comfortably for the week. The owners were very accommodating, sending back our forgotten items very promptly.

"Great location."
Very comfortable accommodation with good sized bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Enjoyed the views over the picturesque village of Porlock, but the cottage itself was very peaceful.

"We had a lovely week in Oxford house."

"Oxford House is an absolutely beautiful property in the heart of a vibrant village."
There are wonderful pubs within a two minute walk, we returned to the Royal Oak three times and the food was divine each time. The Ship Inn (top and bottom) are also old favourites. The butchers never disappoints, particularly wonderful sausages if you fancy a night in and an easy meal. Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s deliver too so it makes your shopping stressless. It’s incredibly spacious and well equipped with everything you could want for a week away. The beds were like sleeping on fluffy clouds. Although it is on the main village road the secondary glazing cuts out all of the general noise to the point that we opened a panel up as we could not hear the church bells ringing next door and the evening practice session was wonderful. I rather like waking to birdsong and horses being ridden past but if you prefer silence you’ll get it. The only possible downside I can think of (and it’s certainly not a deal breaker) is that the towels could be bigger, it made for some interesting dashes from bathroom to our respective bedrooms! We look forward to returning.

"Beautiful, spacious and comfortable accommodation in Exmoor, an area of outstanding beauty."
We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

"An amazingly spacious and well equipped property, perfectly situated in the middle of Porlock."
A two minute walk to an excellent butchers and a Spa which had everything we needed, including a great bakery section. Lots of interesting local walks and the Exmoor Coaster open top bus stops virtually outside the door. We used it to go to Minehead and to Lynmouth. There is also a little bus to Porlock Weir which has a lovely harbour and two great cafes for snacks and/or lunch. The flat has double glazing, so we found it very peaceful and quiet. Porlock itself is a lovely village and is extremely dog (and people) friendly.

Everything you needed was supplied. Lovely light and very spacious property, decor and presentaton spot on. Very comfy beds. Perfect location for pubs, cafes and shops. Exmoor Coaster bus stop close by and definitely worth using instead of using the car. Porlock is a lovely place and we often visit it. We will definitely stay again at Oxford House.

About the location
PORLOCK
Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.
Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
