  • "Very compact and bijou."

Steep steps everywhere. Parking can be tricky and the car park down the road is for 2 hours max. The longstay one is the other end of the village, but you can pull in a little lane opposite the cottage to load and unload. Garden is a wonderful suntrap with lovely views. You are very well situated to access the village shops (open till 10pm One Stop). Bin had not been emptied when we arrived and would have been nice to have materials for at least first fire (logs etc available at One Stop and Spar). Shower temperature a bit unreliable due to low flow/output. Beds very comfortable indeed. Note there is no direct access to the garden from the cottage (ie have to take your dog on a lead a couple of metres up the road, then extremely steep steps to terraces with nice furniture.

Thank you for your feedback. The website does state in the wording that there are steep steps and the photographs do show the steps and that the garden is terraced. There is on street parking as well as the car park but this is on a first come, first served basis. Currently the rubbish collection day does not line up with the check in day but we are trying to sort out private rubbish collection. No one else has mentioned any issues with the shower, it is a power shower. Had you made us aware during your stay of any issues, we would have done all we could to sort them out for you at the time of your stay. The website photographs do show that access to the garden is just a few feet to the side of the front door. It does also state that the steps to the garden are steep and the photographs do show the steps and that the garden is terraced. As you mention there is a small grassy area just a short distance up the road from the property Property Owner

  • "+ve: The cottage is very quaint, well equipped and convenient location."

As you would expect with an old property, there were a few cobwebs - but otherwise very clean. We were delighted to find the welcome cake - thank you. -ve: There’s a patch of flaking wall in second bedroom; it may or may not be caused by damp, but if I had children sleeping in that room, it would have been of concern to me (I didn’t, so it wasn’t, and the room doesn’t smell damp - so I just raise this from a “perception” point of view). -The bulb in one of the bedside lights needs replacing; -We couldn’t find any instructions for recycling (although there is a black bin for general rubbish - we were unsure what to do with glass, plastic, cardboard etc. it said in the instruction booklet - see separate sheet, but it seemed to be missing? - we also couldn’t find a visitors book for comments - we always find these a very useful source of local information/recommendations!

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We have had some external work carried out at the cottage and the patch of flaking wall, is being treated. The property isn't damp and and as you mention does not smell damp. We will get the bulb in the bedside light replaced. We will also sort out instructions for our guests on what to do with recycling etc. Thank you for your comments and we do hope that you come back for a return visit to the cottage. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at the Stag Cottage."

The cottage was really cozy, the kitchen well equiped and the beds are confortable. The bathroom is not large but comfortable with a big shower. It should have been a little bit cleaner: there were spiders web almost everywhere. Porlock was amazing with shop, restaurant and pubs . In the Village there are 2 supermarket well fornished.

We are so glad to hear that you had a really good stay at the cottage. Spiders are notorious for making webs, and it is a cottage, webs can be remade within a short time after removing them. We are glad that you enjoyed Porlock with its eateries and shops and we very much hope to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely high quality cottage in a beautiful setting."

Everything was new and clean. Would prefer an enclosed area for my dog to use, as the cottage is advertised as dog friendly, this would be a necessity. Would definitely recommend. Thank you

About the location

PORLOCK

Minehead 5.5 miles; Lynton 11 miles.

Porlock is a quaint village, popular with tourists due its character, proximity to the lovely North Somerset coastline and situation within the Exmoor National Park. There are plenty of little gift shops along with pubs, cafes and restaurants to be found and only two miles away, the picturesque harbour of Porlock Weir offers wonderful views across the Bristol Channel. The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The medieval village of Dunster, where the castle dominates the skyline, makes a great day out, or take a ride on the West Somerset steam train along the coast to the little harbour village of Watchet. A fabulous village location with lots of outdoor pursuits to interest every visitor.
