  • "The apartment was clean and quite well equipped with what you would expect."

Unfortunately there were several minor issues that let it down. The lounge furniture was so low that as an older person I found it difficult to get out of so spent the week having to sit on a dining chair. Conversely the mirrored bathroom cabinets were so high that I couldn't see in them. I'm 5'2' so although short would still expect to be able to see in them. The kitchen cabinets were also on the high side. The details mention that the bathroom has an over bath shower, this in fact was just a shower attached to the taps. perfect for hosing the children down after a day at the beach but not for 2 adults to have a proper shower meaning that we all used the one in the ensuite. The sockets in the bedrooms were not easily accessible for using hairdryer etc. As I say all fairly minor points but enough to spoil the comfort of the property.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy to hear that you arrived at a clean and well-equipped apartment. We were surprised to read that a few things were a little on the high side, this is not something that has been reported in the past, however we will investigate to see if adjustments need to be made. We appreciate it is the little things that make a holiday. We, along with the owner will take a look at the points you have raised and take steps to address where necessary. We do hope you had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed all that Dartmouth has to offer. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay - thank you."

A few suggestions on how the experience could be improved: the ensuite shower - the sealing silicon needs attention and the rusting wall holder is rusty and requires replacement; rugs throughout the apartment are showing signs of use and need a clean; the large Ikea clock in the kitchen is not working - not fixed by changing the battery; the drying rack adjacent to the kitchen sink is not 'inviting'. Comments offered to be helpful. We had a great time and would visit again.

We are truly happy you enjoyed your stay at 8 The Pottery. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback. We have passed this on to the owner and cleaner to take steps to rectify the matters you have mention. The rugs are already booking in for a clean! The property is spacious, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. The location was perfect for us, having the best of both worlds, beautiful scenic walks right from the doorstop and a pleasant walk to Dartmouth town with its abundance of restaurants, pubs, cafes, shops and benches where you can sit and take in the breathtaking scenery. And to top it off, we we’re lucky with the weather too. 10 out of 10, will definitely return Thank you

  • "Having spent quite a few years visiting this property, this year has been a little disheartening."

The property is clean and tidy at eye level, we just felt certain areas were being overlooked. On arrival, we were unpacking fridge items and had to clean it again as there were areas of food remaining. Our pillows in the master bedroom had no pillow protectors on them, and the duvet cover was ripped. The rug also in our bedroom has been there for years and is in need of a clean or replacement. The en-suite shower is in need of new sealant, all just looked a little tired. I spoke with Sykes regarding access to the property as Warfleet road has been closed since the 11/3/24, due to the road collapsing, no one had been told about this problem, so you have to go the long way round to enter the potteries. There has also been a lot of works vehicle near the entrance, so be careful on exiting the car park. I have taken photos if the owner wishes to see them, I’m sure he’d appreciate some honest feedback.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We can only apologise that you had a few issues during your stay, please know if you had let us know during your time here, we would have done our best to rectify them immediately. We have passed your comments on to the cleaner and owner who will look to remedy the matters you have raised. We are sorry you were not made aware of the road closure, as the diversion signs are in place we felt this was an sufficient alternative, however we will look at informing guests going forward. We do hope you had an enjoyable holiday and look forward to welcoming you back to Dartmouth again soon. Property Owner

We have stayed in some of the other apartments but this was our first in No 8. It was clean and tidy. The kitchen was well stocked with dishwasher tablets, tea towels and washing machine tablets etc. very warm apartment with plenty of hot water. We had been told about the hob engineer's visit and were happy for him to attend, which he did, on time but sadly could not fix the problem there and then. Also missing bath towels were delivered after I enquired. Wonderful apartment in fab location and allocated parking is a gem. We remember The Pottery when it was a pottery with a top floor cafe and loved the building then too. Would certainly like to return and could see us living there, if only

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled you loved the apartment, it is in such a beautiful spot. Up to date details of road closures in the area would have been helpful in emails sent to us as the main road from Dartmouth to Warfleet was closed in both directions due to a land slip and no diversions were signposted

Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback scores rating the property and your holiday. We are sorry that you found the heating to come on at different times, this has been addressed and full instructions are in the property folder. It exceeded our expectations. It was super warm and comfortable, with lots of space and a pleasure to come back to after a day exploring. We loved the character of the building and tasteful modern interior. We thought we would miss having a private outdoor space for our dog, but it worked fine popping out to the cove or gravelled area. The sound of the tawny owls at night and peace and quiet was a delight. There was some noise from footsteps from the flat above for a couple of nights, but there was no sound from any other flats despite being on the first floor with three flats on that floor all occupied.

We stayed in this property last year and liked it so much we went back this year. The only downside in my opinion is the second bathroom. The bath is so deep it is almost impossible to get in our out of. The shower attachment is very peculiar but is handy for washing your hair if you lean over the bath. But beware! Keep a tight hold on the handle otherwise it will swivel round and water goes everywhere. We still enjoyed our holiday very much.

There are insufficient dinner plates, tea plates and tea spoons for the size of apartment whereas there are dozens of knives forks and desert spoons

The iconic building is steeped in history and ouses character. The beds are very comfortable. The whole place is decorated beautifully. Everything you may need is there for a relaxing time for all. The added bonus of parking on site is excellent as Dartmouth is a very beautiful and popular destination. There are lovely walks from the site and ofcourse you can walk into town !! Brilliant ☺️. Personally I found the furniture not very comfortable or what to do with the big cushions. But that's probably just me. My family were happy enough. I also on a personal level think there should be another step to get into the ensuite shower. I appreciate it is probably not a problem to most but for a short person with a dodgy foot it was getting in and out. But that's just me. Overall it's a wonderful place to call your own for a while. Thank you very much.

This is a spacious property ideally situated, within a ten minute walk in to Dartmouth. On arriving we felt like we were back home, such a spacious apartment, with all you need for your stay. It was lovely and warm, and relaxing. On further inspection there were a few issues with the level of cleanliness from our previous visit. Not sure if there had been a different team of cleaners but things had been missed. We have discussed all our issues with the letting agents who did assure us those problems would be rectified before our next holiday, we trust that it will be.

We would have no hesitation in revisiting the area again. To be able to access the coast path so readily without driving was a real bonus. The apartment itself has a great layout with plenty of room for four adults and a small dog. Our only observation is the bathrooms are a little tired and must have been designed with smaller people in mind as the sink and toilet heights are quite low even for average height humans. This did not deter from our enjoyment of the property and is only an observation. We are considering a future visit.

The apartment is in a great location and has a parking space which is a bonus in Dartmouth. The bedrooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the living area is quite dark because there is only one small window. We would not usually book pet friendly accommodation as we have allergies - one of our party was very allergic during our stay unfortunately. I would not recommend this apartment to people who enjoy cooking as the kitchen is very small and there is limited storage space for larder food - and no trivets.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are thrilled that you we happy with the location, it really is in a lovely spot. We can only apologise that one of your party members is allergic to pets, we do make it very clear when marketing pet friendly properties that they are pet friendly, partly for this reason. • "A few years ago I would have rated this property as excellent."

Unfortunately I feel it has been neglected by the owners. I did point our the state of the carpet into the main bedroom to your staff on handing back the keys as it was decidedly dirty. The floor tiles to the second bathroom are mainly cracked and broken. I feel the property needs redecorating. I felt a little disappointed with 8 Pottery it is a gorgeous place it needs a little love. As we entered the property from downstairs we were a little put off by the two large boards stored outside No 4 and the fact that the owners there had decided to discard there dirty shoes next to the board. We are dog lovers but the yappy little chap in the neighbouring apartment got a little tedious. Dartmouth is definitely suffering due to the amount of second homes in the town we noticed a lot of the restaurants we used to frequent are gone and there are a lack of good ones. The speciality shops are slowing disappearing due to the enormous rents demanded by Dartmouth Council allowing big chains like Fat Face, Crew etc to take over. We did take a ferry trip from Dartmouth castle to Dartmouth and was bombarded by the Ferryman's opinion on how bad Dartmouth had become because of the effect the second homes are having on the town. We visited Totnes during our stay and were truly shocked, there were numerous beggars on the main street, we actually saw one man sitting under the main archway under a slogan painted on the wall in large black letters. Again a lot of speciality shops are gone leaving shops selling cheap rubbish. We feel there is a huge drug problem in the town so we did not spend a lot of time there. I have been coming to Dartmouth since I was a child I am afraid we have decided not to return.

We were very disappointed to read your review of 8 The Pottery and sorry that you did not contact us on arrival in order to give us the chance to try to rectify some of these issues during your stay (we can confirm, however, that the carpets are being professionally cleaned this week as a consequence of your feedback).  This is a very popular property, independently rated at 4-Star Gold level by VisitEngland, and regularly receiving four or five star reviews from customers – however, we will certainly follow up your other concerns to ensure that the property continues to be well presented for our holiday guests going forward.
We were extremely surprised to receive your negative feedback about Dartmouth.  The community and local businesses in Dartmouth continue to work hard to ensure that the town remains an extremely desirable place to visit and stay on holiday.  Whilst some restaurants inevitably close down over time, other new ventures will open, and in our view there remains a fantastic array to choose from, including celebrity chef Mitch Tonks’ award-winning ‘Rockfish’ (family-friendly fish and chips) and elegant ‘The Seahorse’ (delicious seafood) and many, many more to suit all budgets and palates.  Dartmouth still offers a wonderful array of independent art galleries as well as distinctive individual shops and boutiques alongside the larger (but still relatively small) chains such as ‘Fat Face’ and ‘Crew’ – our mostly locally-owned and managed businesses very much need customers to keep supporting them so they can indeed afford to pay their rents.  It is unfortunate that you experienced just one individual ferryman’s view of the town (somewhat ironic when his own business depends equally on tourism and local businesses!) – most of us would give a much more positive view of our beautiful, historic and vibrant town in which are lucky to live and work!
Similarly, your comments about and opinions of Totnes do not tie in with our own and those of many very happy holiday guests who visit every year.  Totnes is a lively and particularly friendly town, regularly featuring in ‘cool places to live’ type guides and boasting many individual cafes and restaurants which have great appeal to the thousands of visitors who flock there each year.  Again, shops do come and go, as in towns across the country, but there remain numerous independent businesses, and indeed Totnes is known for resisting the influx of chains which fill other towns across the country.  Sadly, drugs are a nationwide issue but South Devon is amongst one of the safest areas to live and visit, and it is hugely disappointing that you have raised the issue in this way on a property review.  In summary, we are very sad to learn that you have decided not to return to Dartmouth.
If we can persuade you back at some point in the future please do contact us for suggestions of places to stay, along with ideas of where to eat and shop – we would be delighted to show you that South Devon, and specifically Dartmouth and Totnes, remains a fantastic place for a holiday or short break, all year round.

  • "We frequently use Dartmouth for holidays and as yet the potteries is one of the best we've been to, it was a lovely airy space for 4 and the dog , very modern and spotlessly clean, the main reason for our choice wasn't just the location but with it being regatta the facility of parking."

On that note we have complaint, we told yourselves we would arrive as a party of 4 in two cars and told that was no problem. We arrived unloaded and parked in the flats own space plus a open visitors space as directed by yourselve, the following morning the van in the visitors space had a sarcastic note put under the wipers saying ' this is private parking do not park here in future' therefore we left a note to say we were in the flat 8 and put the parking plan inside the windscreen. Subsequent days ended up us getting our note screwed up and stuffed in the side window and the van itself getting blocked in. We didn't make a fuss or point any fingers but put us on edge all week in case our vehicles were damaged as a consequence. We appreciate building work is still ongoing but a skip and several work vans didn't help our cause. Going forward I would advise a simple laminated pass stating that a visiting vehicle is from flat 8. A small blip on otherwise another memorable Dartmouth trip.

Many thanks for taking the time to complete your review of 8 The Pottery in Dartmouth.  We have forwarded your comments to the owners who wanted to pass on their apologies to you for the parking issues.  They also much appreciated the laminated pass suggestion but are hopeful that with the top floor soon to be completed this situation will soon be resolved.  The owners wanted to pass on their thanks to you for your kind comments about the property and should you wish to rebook for Regatta 2017 they would like to offer you £50 discount off the week!  We hope to welcome you back again soon! • "This was the second time that we have stayed at the pottery, The first time was at a different apartment, Not quite as good as the first apartment, Lacks polish and finishing touches."

  • "Large, spacious accommodation."

Very clean. Underfloor heating. Quiet area Great to have one's own parking place. Wi Fi is a very useful bonus. No view of the creek but the cottages opposite are attractive and the trees are lovely. If you don't mind a short walk into town it's a great location, close to the castle. In the bedroom there was a draught through holes in the very old wall, we plugged these with tissues. The pedal on the kitchen bin was broken. Altogether a great place!

  • "Quiet location with own parking which we find to be essential in Dartmouth in popular holiday periods."

Very modern in its furnishings although main living area is a little dark due to only one window and a natural stone wall about which, I am guessing, little can be done as I think this may be a listed building. Allows dogs which is a rarity in a Dartmouth for some reason!

This luxury first floor apartment is accessed from second floor landing of The Pottery building.

This leads into the hallway of the apartment with access to all rooms, including a spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area.

This light and airy area boasts oak flooring and original stone features, and a living area with a large leather L shaped sofa.

There is an additional utility cupboard housing a washing machine and iron.

The luxurious master bedroom has a King-size bed and en suite shower room, whilst the second bedroom has twin beds (zip and link) that can be made to create one King-size bed.

All duvets, pillows, bed linen and hand/bath towels are provided.

In addition to the en suite is a luxurious family bathroom.

About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
