  • "Wonderful holiday home."

Very cosy and comfortable with plenty of space for everyone. Bedding was fresh and all furnishings at a very high standard. Will definitely be back but hopefully for longer.

  • "This house is definitely top rating."

It looked good on the photos on the web site but even better when you actually get there. It is the second time I have stayed there with two friends and all being well we intend to go back again next year for a few days. It was very good that a wardrobe had been put in another bedroom, much appreciated.

Thank you Audrey for your review, and lovely to have you back at our house. We listened to your last feedback and agreed that a wardrobe works well in that room, and are glad you appreciated it! Hopefully see you again. Vanessa & Phil Property Owner

  • "Armorel House is a lovely, spacious property which was clean and well-presented."

Being just outside the town meant the street was relatively peaceful. Parking wasn't easy but with others to guide the car in to the parking space, we managed to get a Dacia Duster in. A few small suggestions - just one house key was provided which was difficult with 2 families, so another key would be great to have. Aside from some tiny UHT milk sachets and a couple of teabags/coffee sachets there was no "welcome pack" which would have been very well-received after a long drive. No towel was provided in downstairs toilet.

Hi Mark, thanks for the helpful feedback. Glad that you enjoyed our house, we genuinely enjoy being able to share it when we are not there. We have looked into your observations. There is a further set of keys available on request when you collect your keys. I'll add something to the house book to that effect. The welcome pack should contain a few things, including a selection of biscuits, so not sure what went wrong there. We provide 6 hand & bath towels at each changeover, but currently don't put additional ones in the bathrooms. We are now looking at how we can sort that! Always looking to improve things to make sure people have a great time in Dartmouth at Armorel. Vanessa & Phil Property Owner

  • "We had a really great break staying at this lovely property in Dartmouth."

A big house with loads of comfortable spaces to chill - inside and out. Very close to the town’s pubs and restaurants, but set back from the hustle and bustle ensuring a restful haven to return to at the end of the day! Really well equipped and beautifully decorated throughout! Lots to see and do in the vicinity - fantastic walking and a steam railway just across the estuary! Who could ask for more!!!

  • "We had a really lovely Christmas stay at Armorel house."

Christmas trees were up which was nice. The downstairs was much bigger than it looked in the pictures, we enjoyed cooking Christmas dinner in the kitchen. Very well equipment kitchen. The 2 living rooms were great for us as a family. TV system was great all channels accessible Netflix, prime etc. Just a couple of points the bathroom window upstairs we couldn’t open so couldn’t air it out. Also the dishwasher needs some rinse aid or salt or both as it didn’t wash dishes properly. The road leading to the property is extremely narrow even with a Mazda 2. We hope to come back again maybe in the summer time. Thank you.

  • "Really nice layout and great location."

Parking is fine but SUVs will struggle. There are posts at the start of the lane which will indicate wether you will fit or not. Honda civic was fine. Need to remove the wooden shelf in the bath as it’s mouldy but this isn’t a criticism of the house as the general cleanliness was brilliant

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

Photos hardly do justice to the quality of the house and how spacious the house is. We weren't sure that we'd use the second living room but this was a lovely bonus. Our first time in Dartmouth but can't think of a better place for a holiday. Thank you.

  • "Armorel House is a beautiful, well-maintained and quiet property about 5 mins walk from Dartmouth's restaurants and shops."

We had a wonderful stay and will absolutely be back again - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It was great having two parking spaces and we had no trouble getting our medium sized car into the space although it is rather tight. My only recommendation is to bring fans (we did) since in the hot weather, the bedrooms are warm and for security reasons, you can only open the windows a little. Well done the owners...we had a great stay.

  • "Everything was as described but when we got there it seemed even better and rooms were lovely and large."

Furnishings of a very high standard it certainly felt like a real home not a holiday rental. Very quiet and we took a small car so we’re able to park in the space beside the house which was very handy. Definitely want to come back again. One little negative was there was not a wardrobe to hang clothes in one bedroom upstairs even though the room was large.

Thanks for your helpful feedback Audrey. As you rightly spotted, this is our home and we love sharing our house with others when we can. We will take on board your thoughts about the third room, and will try and see if we can fit in a wardrobe as well as the large chest of drawers without spoiling the feel of the room. Let us know what you think when you come to visit again! Vanessa & Phil Property Owner

The additional free parking option in the main car park is a viable and convenient alternative - 5/10 mins walk f you are unsure.

It was very well appointed & had everything we needed. Lovely position for walking into town and a good view along valley. We didn't use car park space as drive to house was a bit hairy as very narrow in places. But we used the carpark pass which was an added bonus.

Property was well equipped, and the equipment was all working and in good order! Information provided for the area was good and we did make use of it. One comment, we couldn’t find a vacuum cleaner though, otherwise we would have done a quick run through before leaving.

Thanks Brian for taking the time to give our house some great feedback. It's helpful to know the local information was useful. Sorry that you did not find the vacuum cleaner which lives in a cupboard in the utility/washing room - I'll make a bigger sign for the next time! Phil Property Owner

  • "Really lovely, clean and very well kitted out place."

No negatives, a real home from home (also very spacious) and very well located near to town and harbour. We rent holiday homes regularly and this was in the top 2 places we have rented to date. For those concerned about the car parking space comments in other reviews. My car is a 4.87m by 1.85m estate and I managed to get into space ok. It is tight and needed help to manoeuvre in and out. However, the additional space provided in Mayor Ave car park is easy walking distance. We met friends in Dartmouth for lunch so was useful to have both spaces.

Dear Graeme, We are very grateful for you taking the time to write this terrific review, especially from such seasoned travellers! Perhaps we will see you again, when we will be looking to hold on to or perhaps even improve on our top 2 place ranking! Thanks again, Vanessa and Phil Property Owner

  • "There is a lot about this house that is great (as previously noted) however for us, the constricted access and ‘parking space’ mean that we will NEVER return."

It is curious that the previous reviews have not made any reference to the to the horrendous access and parking issues with this house – a massive elephant in the room! The neighbours actually joked with us about their ‘Sport’ of watching people trying to negotiate the ridiculously narrow entrance road and then access the even more ridiculous parking spot in their city dwellers cars. They in their small cars – dented and scratched with lost hub caps and damaged wheels trims drive like maniacs up the narrow streets as if it were a contest. We have a Volvo XC60 which leaves about a 1.5 cm gap on each side entering the road. You may then need to pass/negotiate scaffolding and obstructions on either side reducing the width still further as we did. When you eventually reach the property, you are further hampered by the parking spot being at a 90-degree angle to the narrow road with further restrictions on the opposite side of the road. It will probably take a perilous 10+ point turn to get your car into the parking space, if you are lucky. Ditto when you try to get out. The curbs and walls take no prisoners. If your vehicle is longer or wider than a Volvo XC60 you will need to park in the town, but only if you are up early enough to find a space – which are like hens teeth. If you have more than one car then it will be more problematic because you only have a permit for one vehicle and the restrictions mean that you can’t stay for more than 4 hours. If you have to leave your car in town the walk up to the house is steep and so if you have any mobility/health issues it will be challenging. I repeat that there is lots about this house which is great.

Dear Sheila, We hope that despite the difficulties you encountered, you enjoyed your 2 week stay at our house. We are grateful that you have recognised how great the house is as a place to stay in Dartmouth. We are very lucky to have our own private parking space at the side of the house. Most central Dartmouth properties have none, and have to rely on roadside parking which is limited. In addition, we also pay for a parking permit for our guests that gives limitless car parking 5 minutes away for an extra car. Part of Dartmouth's appeal is its narrow streets and position in a valley. Our road is typical of the town. It is one way, quiet and only used by the 20 houses for access. There is a 2.1m width limit, as we describe in the house details, which is sufficient for all cars, and most delivery vans. Turning into our car parking space requires care but all our previous guests have been able to manage it. We always appreciate feedback from our guests and hope that overall, you enjoyed your stay in Dartmouth. Vanessa and Phil Property Owner

We were fortunate with the weather and enjoyed all the different sitting out areas - different parts of the garden were sunny throughout the day, a real bonus. The approach to the house is indeed very narrow as the description notes. An excellent property.

Dear Alison, We are so pleased that you were able to make the most of our house and its gardens with the great Dartmouth weather! Like many properties in Dartmouth, access is along narrow lanes, but hopefully the car parking space made it worth it! Vanessa and Phil Property Owner

  • "Superb property that could not be faulted in anyway, with furniture and fixtures all top class."

Our only observation of note was that there was no barbeque and we were unsure whether bbqs were permitted at all? With the extensive timber rear deck and a relatively narrow verandah and an absence of anyone else barbequing, we decided not to. The location was excellent and only a short walk to the Quayside. As advised, the road access is 6ft restricted but that has the benefit of virtually no passing traffic noise. The car park licence was also a welcome bonus on the one day that we did go for a short drive. All in all, an excellent property.

Dear Andrew, Thanks for the helpful and supportive feedback. We are currently reviewing our approach to having a barbeque available for our guests, perhaps in the part of the garden with the patio. Like many of the houses in Dartmouth, we are located on a narrow, one way lane, and ours is only used by the house owners. Like you, we look upon it as a advantage! Vanessa and Phil Property Owner
