  • "Lovely position of property with stunning views."

Very comfortable with all the amenities you could need and be prepared for a very steep climb up the hill. However it could do with a lick of paint on some of the walls, some revamping of silicone around the shower and the oven could do with a clean

Thank you for your comments and we were pleased to read that you enjoyed the stunning views from Windwhistle. We have passed your feedback on to the owner, however we can confirm that the oven has been bought up to standard by the cleaners. We would also like to report that Windwhistle was updated and repainted just 18 months ago, and while we do appreciate that scuff marks may appear on paintwork (particularly when suitcases are transported upstairs). • "Thank you for a lovely comfortable stay."

The views from the balcony are amazing- especially at night. Dartmouth is so beautiful- our first time here and really impressed with the food, restaurants, local amenities and our walks to the castle and ferry ride home! We visited the harbour every day and breakfast the Embankment Bistro was amazing. I would highly recommend it. Leaving very happy and with such stronger calf muscles after the daily hill-climb! Thank you!

  • "We had a fantastic family holiday, grandma, children, and grandchildren- all adults."

Great accommodation for all 6 f us: everything we needed to spend evenings at home, catching the sunrise on the balcony, watching a DVD, and relaxing in the bath! Such a fab location and we are so much fitter for the hill climbs every day. Discovering Dartmouth and the surrounding area after many years of absence, has rekindled our love from the area- walks, visiting the castle, ferries across the river, Blackpool Sands and the bays. Even went fishing. Coffees, pasties, and local pub food, all delicious.

The beds were comfortable, the property was clean and well furnished. The only thing we couldn't find in the kitchen was a pair of scissors.

Hi David - So pleased you enjoyed the comfort and the furnishings in Windwhistle. We do pride ourselves on keeping it well equipped, including the kitchen which has a full Sabateir range including scissors. These must have been accidentally packed and taken home by a recent guest. I have since purchased another pair following your comment, so thank you! Guests are encouraged to contact Coast & Country if there are any niggles like this, as we like to keep everything as we would at home. Roz Property Owner

The Cottage has been perfect for out weeks stay in South Devon. The views from the balcony will stay with us for many years. We were lucky to have great weather for our week in Dartmouth. We enjoyed 3 swims in the sea. Recommend the steam train and ferry boat. Lots of great walks and enjoyed drinks at the floating bridge watching the higher ferry.

    Thank you and throughly recommended.

It's great to hear you had such a lovely time at Windwhistle. The views are hard to beat! Thanks for leaving your feedback Wendy. Dartmouth makes a really good holiday location - good food, good walks and the river is delightful - not to mention the National Trust properties. Thank you for staying at Windwhistle. It's a beautiful spot - with fantastic views - one of the benefits of the steep hill. Keeps us fit though! We are so pleased you found the cottage to be comfortable and a good base for your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property with fantastic views."

..we were very fortunate with the weather. Beds were comfortable, showers good everything clean and tidy Only small thing...a toilet brush in each toilet (rather than 1 for 3) would be good Ps...I wish we didn't have to strip the beds when we leave...it slightly spoils the holiday feeling.

Hi! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Windwhistle. It's a real escape isn't it, with some stunning walks and restaurants. Thanks for your feedback too. I'm pleased to say that more toilet brushes are on the way as I write this. We have a team of excellent cleaners, so just stripping the sheets means that they can spend extra time making sure Windwhistle is spick and span for our next guests. We do appreciate your help with this. I hope you find time to visit Dartmouth again - it's our favourite UK holiday destination! Property Owner

The property is superb. It is in a good location and has off-road parking. The house is on a steep hill parts of which are about 1 in 3 gradient so he elderly or people with walking difficulties should take note. Horn Hill steps are an alternative route. Plenty a of taxis are available but order in advance. Enjoy wonderful Dartmouth

We are so glad that you enjoyed your holiday in beautiful Dartmouth and liked staying at Windwhistle. The views from the balconies and top room are stunning (one of the upsides of being at the top of Crowthers Hill). We're pleased you found Horn Hill! It's a good solution to the climb. Hopefully the bluebells and Rhododendrons were in full bloom for you. Thank you for visiting! Property Owner

  • "A really lovely house with a great view over Dartmouth."

We were three couples and perhaps the house was a little small as the sofa area seated four comfortably but struggled for six. The bedrooms were fine but we're advertised as three en suite but one room only had a shower room but did not have a toilet which wasn't made clear in the description and two couples had to share a toilet. We probably wouldn't have booked if we had realised this! Crowther Hill was also quite steep and sometimes after a lovely meal in Dartmouth was a bit of a bind!

Barbara Pleased you loved the views – we also think they are some of the best overlooking Dartmouth being at the top of Crowthers Hill. Would love you to come again, and after eating out in Dartmouth, I definitely recommend Horn Hill steps instead of Crowthers Hill – much easier. I have taken on your feedback regarding the description of the property to be very specific that the second shower room has no w/c. Thanks for your feedback Roz Property Owner

Whilst there is plenty of bedroom for 6 people not sure how you would accommodate 6 adults in the living space. There was only 2 of us and it was comfortable. View from the balconies was worth getting up for, loved to have eaten on the balconies but of course the seagull make it impossible. Also don't seagulls sleep at night???

  • "We enjoyed Windwhistle very much."

The standard of the property was as good as we knew it would be and was very comfortable (except for the hill!). An ideal property for a young family with lots to do in the area. It was quite easy for us to leave our car in the parking space in front of the garage and go for walks and trips on the various ferries including a steam train trip. We had a slight issue with an oven that needed to be cleaned but this was addressed immediately by Coast and Country with the cleaners leaving us a bottle of Proseco as an apology. It was not a big deal but we were impressed by the way it was handled.

We slept on the top floor and the blinds work quite well blocking early morning sun. If we had slept in one of the other rooms it would have been too bright for us with the early morning sun. We had a lovely stay and would definitely book again if we go to Dartmouth

  • "Windwhistle is a fabulous property with one of the best views of Dartmouth and the river Dart we have ever experienced."

As regular visitors to the area we were expecting a good view, but from either of the balconies or the garden terrace below, you could easily lose yourself watching the world go by on land and water. BBQ and outdoor eating is a lovely option on the lower terrace, just need to navigate the steps down and back up - but well worth the little bit of effort. Accommodation is generous, bedrooms and bathrooms comfortable - the en-suite shower room useful for teenagers / 2 couples sharing etc. Very clean and fresh on our arrival. And although not an issue if you’re going to be eating out often as we did, but a dishwasher would be a useful final addition for the property. Parking place was a godsend as access up the road from town is steep, narrow and quite tricky to navigate. However, turning up the hill from the property rather than back down into town takes you on a more typical Devon road with plenty of passing places and is only 5 mins longer to get into the centre of Dartmouth by car going that way. Walking into town and back is good for a workout, very close - only 5 mins. But anyone with mobility issues will need their sticks! If you want a week where you don’t even need to take car out, then Windwhistle can offer you that. Several passenger ferries can take you over the river or up and down it to many destinations.

Everything was clean and fresh. This was great as weatherwise it has been very wet unfortunately. It would have been nice to have used the balcony more, but just too cold and wet, however we loved the view. Did some of our favourite walks over to Kingswear and around to Colyton Fishacre and along to the Castle for a walk uo to Gallants Bower, the bluebells are spectacular.

  • "Windwhistle has the wow factor in terms of holiday accommodation."

It is beautifully appointed and must have some of the best views across Dartmouth and the river Dart in the the area with two balconies and a decked terrace to chose from. It is close to all amenities, shops and restaurants as well as boats trips, stunning walks and and the Dartmouth Steam Railway. All in all it is a lovely place to stay for a holiday and we can’t wait to return.
