Lovely hosts. If you are looking for a quiet, hidden place out in the Exmoor, but still not too far away from the coast and some places to spot, Virvale Barn is a perfect option. We really liked it!

  • "A wonderful quiet place to stay."

Sharon greeted us on arrival and explained a few lovely things to do in the area. On opening the door we were greeted by a lovely home made Lemon Drizzle Cake which was quickly demolished during our stay. The barn was lovely and clean and spacious with great views from the lounge. One added bonus is that each bedroom has it's own ensuite. Ideal for a holiday with your dogs as lots of places to walk. We will certainly return.

Thank you Roseanne. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

Nothing is too much trouble and great advice for places to visit. The property is so lovely and glad we had a second visit there. It is great to have so much space and the views are outstanding. My daughter (18) loved having her own space in the beautiful upstairs bedroom. The showers are perfect, kitchen well equipped and great for cooking evening meals. Downstairs bed was uncomfortable as we do prefer a firmer mattress

  • "We had a lovely break at the barn."

The place has everything you need and more. The farm setting and field opposite provided a great space for Elsie our French Bulldog who loved being off the lead. There were no real issues. The cooker needs attention as only the left side oven appears to work. But that aside it was no issue. I called upon Sharon and she soon got to us up and running. This place is perfect, has a relaxed atmosphere and we even got some lovely sunshine. All credit to the owners. The TV upstairs needs to be a smart TV. That was a tiny issue but needs looking into. Thanks again. Great place. Mark Mark

Dear Mark, Thank you for your review. In response: We are sorry that you had an issue with 1 of the the 3 ovens in the range not working. We strive to make everything as perfect as possible for our guests and fix any issue as soon as we are made aware of it. Re. the smart TV. I hope you noticed that the TV in the ground floor bedroom is a smart TV already. Our 2023 bookings were largely made a year ago or earlier, so we had to delay the upgrade to Autumn 2023 so as not to disappoint those who booked based on the earlier listing. The listing for 2024 bookings has been updated to reflect the change to a smart TV for next years season. Regards, Sharon Property Owner

A great place to base ourselves. The super king size bed is so comfortable! Sharon was a great host, very friendly and welcoming and gave us some great suggestions and advice for during our stay. The Barn had almost everything we needed for our stay. The only thing that would have made it perfect would be to have the smart TV in the living room so we could log on to Netflix (neither of us have Sky and found the basic Sky limited) So nice that we could also walk around the fields too and had the weather been better, I definitely would have spent some time relaxing by the duck pond.

The hosts were very helpful. The barn was beautiful and relaxing. Lots of space and BBQ facilities. Not far from lots of sights and nice beaches. The hosts provided a homemade cake, eggs and milk on arrival. They kindly showed my boys around the farm and even made a cricket pitch for the boys. I'd definitely recommend the location. Virvale Barn is very dog friendly, upstairs and down, with hard floors and throws provided to cover the sofas in case they used them. The log burner in the living room made for cosy evenings. We loved exploring the farm and meeting the animals - feeding the horses was a highlight. Although the wifi was perfectly good for our needs, a technician came to install 5G the week we were there, so it should certainly be fine now. A lovely location, with a short drive to the cliffs or into Combe Martin, or a very pleasant long-ish walk down the valley to Hunter's Inn and the Heddon valley.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Virvale Barn."

Due to the spring lockdown, we needed re-arrange our original booking at relatively short notice, but were totally unable to get in contact with Sykes, despite attempting to call and email them - massively frustrating! However, our hosts (Sharon & Greg) contacted us directly and were very accomodating when it came to rearranging our weeks' stay to later in the year. They were so very helpful throughout the process, up to and including our stay. The barn was very cosy and had a good variety of books, DVD's, board games, etc for when the weather was poor. All the facilities were excellent, with the one caveat being that the Wi-Fi desparately needs a booster of some sort. Overall, we would thouroughly recommend.
