  • "We had a wonderful time at Dishcombe Cottage."

    The cottage was one of the best homes that we have stayed in over the years. It felt like a real home rather than a rental property - beautifully furnished with very comfortable large beds and fabulous showers. Three great sized bedrooms and open planned downstairs. There were also some lovely touches - toiletries in the bathrooms, fresh flowers and a yummy chocolate cake with a bottle of wine on our arrival. The cottage is on the family estate and so the owners were present if you needed anything but were very discrete. We couldn’t thank them enough for driving us to Exeter when our car broke down. They went over and above to make sure that our holiday was not ruined. The cottage is very quiet and set away from the nearest town - 15 minute walk away. The town itself has two pubs. We had a meal at the Okehampton which was very good. It is easy to access the A30 and we visited a lot of Dartmoor easily - Castle Drogo was only 15 mins away. If you haven’t a car - there are some local walks but you would be more limited. Thank you Caroline for Dishcombe Cottage - we would come back

    Very spacious and well kept with especially fabulous shower and beds. Great position - recommend Belstone, walk from Castle Drogo overflow car park to Fingle Bridge and quiches from Blacks Deli in Chagford. A great weekend spot.

  • "Dishcombe Cottage was excellent."

    Cleanliness is top notch. There is absolutely everything that one could possibly need at the cottage. The grounds are really nice as well. We had wonderful weather, so took full advantage of the outside seating area, having our early morning wake-up cuppa listening to the birds and cockerel! and we would also spend our evenings there. Caroline & Luke are amazing hosts, providing a welcoming supply of tea, coffee and milk, and a superb home made chocolate cake and bottle of wine, just what is needed after a long journey. It was our first stay at Dishcombe Cottage, and we will definitely be returning.

  • "This is a lovely spacious and well maintained cottage in a lovely setting."

    You have 3 large bedrooms, with 2 well equipped and spacious bathrooms with a rainfall shower that was wonderful after a long day exploring. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge/dining area has lots of room and seating options. The garden was really nice with a large outside table, BBQ and the garden itself had ample space. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, they are on hand but leave you be unless you need anything which was perfect. Overall this is a great find and I would throughly recommend it.

  • "We absolutely loved our week at Dishcombe Cottage."

    The accommodation was really comfortable with big beds and spacious bedrooms and 2 big bathrooms to choose from, or have one each! There was a lovely little walk through the field and the wood to a little babbling brook where there were loads of snowdrops making it idyllic. Caroline was extremely hospitable and helpful, we didn't meet Luke but waved from a distance so I'm sure he was very friendly too! The lemon drizzle and bottle of wine were also lovely welcoming gifts which went down very well. The area is fantastic for walkers, riders and everyone. Thoroughly recommend. Thank you!

  • "We loved our stay at Dishcombe."

    I think it was the cleanest holiday cottage Ive ever stayed in. Everything was immaculate. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and had every kind of pan and utensil you could need. The location was perfect; total serenity and peace, with just the scent of cows when you went outside! Our host was very helpful and friendly. Upon arrival we and our dogs immediately felt at home. Couldn’t have wanted for anything else! Thank you so much.

    Private gated driveway and with dishcombe woods at the end of the driveway is amazing for our dogs, Dishcombe cottage has a paddock for running dogs. The cottage its self is very well equipped with everything that you can wish for. I’ll definitely recommend this place and will be returning.

    Felt very comfortable, home from home, chocolate cake was a gorgeous surprise. Very spacious in all rooms and bathrooms where top spec. Beds and furniture were very comfortable. 2 suggestions 1 a name plate for Dishcombe cottage at main entrance and an outside tap and short hose to wash boots and dogs paws.

  • "Lovely cottage, beautifully furnished."

    A tasty chocolate cake and a bottle of wine welcomed us! There are games and good books and a useful folder detailing nearby attractions, shops, pubs etc.. A gas BBQ outside which we used twice. A short journey to Dartmoor for excellent walks and excellent pubs. And Caroline the owner could not have been more helpful, would highly recommend.

  • "This is an amazing property where the owners try to make your life as easy as possible by providing things such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, paper towels, scourer and sponge."

    Enough loo paper to last a couple of weeks. To top that there was a bottle of wine in the fridge along with some milk, tea and coffee and a homemade chocolate cake. Scrummy

  • "Immaculate cottage in lovely rural location, perfectly presented with everything you need - even a delicious chocolate cake and some milk were waiting for us."

    For a cottage, the living room, bedrooms & bathrooms were remarkably spacious. The bedding was particularly high-quality and very comfy indeed - even my teenage son commented on how good it was. If Dishcombe Cottage has a fault, it's a longish walk to the nearest pub - but my wife volunteered as designated driver, so solved!

Dishcombe Cottage is a beautiful architect-converted property, located within the stunning Dartmoor National Park, in South Tawton. Set behind the owner’s home, this family-friendly property enjoys far-reaching countryside views and access to the surrounding woodlands and meadows for walks.

Arrive to find three off-road parking spaces by the cottage and a wonderful garden, with gas BBQ where you can look forward to dining alfresco with a view.

Inside Dishcombe Cottage, you will find a contemporary and fully-equipped kitchen, where you can prepare delicious meals, ready to enjoy in the welcoming living/ dining room.

After dinner, kick-back and relax on the sofas while you watch your favourite show on the Smart TV with your dogs curled up in front of the crackling woodburning stove.

The downstairs is completed by a cloakroom for your convenience.

Head upstairs, where you will find two spacious family bathrooms, both with baths and separate walk-in showers, perfect for freshening up after an adventure-filled day. When sleep calls, choose from three beautifully-presented bedrooms, a super-king-size (zip/link) with a Smart TV, a king-size, and a twin (zip/link), all of which offer breathtaking countryside views.

Dishcombe is in the parish of South Tawton one mile from the cottage, where you will find the 15th century Church House – a fine example of a medieval community building which is still in use today – and St. Andrew’s Church with over 100 medieval carved roof bosses. The other neighbouring village (also one mile from the cottage) is South Zeal with two traditional old pubs – the Oxenham Arms and the King’s Arms. There are also tennis courts and a children’s playground.

The next door village is Sticklepath, which has a well stocked village shop and café and the interesting National Trust: Finch Foundry. There is also a lovely circular walk from the Finch Foundry car park along the River Taw at Skaigh.

Not far away is the picturesque Stannary town of Chagford, where you will find an interesting selection of independent shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants, and the Chagford Swimming Pool (seasonal opening times): ideal if you’re visiting in the summer months.

From your new home from home, you can embark on scenic hikes and bike rides through the rich countryside and moorland or visit nearby attractions including The National Trust's Castle Drogo or Stone Lane Gardens.

The closest large town is Okehampton, which has all amenities including Waitrose, Lidl & Co-op, a cinema and a good range of other shops. Attractions include the Museum of Dartmoor Life, Okehampton Castle and, if you time your visit right, you can attend the annual Okehampton Show in August.

Further afield, you will find Exeter, home to a stunning cathedral, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Exeter's Underground Passages, plus a variety of eateries to suit all tastes. There is an excellent direct rail link from Okehampton to Exeter Central.

For sandy beaches, you can head to Bude on the north coast or Exmouth on the south coast, each about 30 miles away.

For a blissful retreat near the moors, look no further than Dishcombe Cottage.

Situated on the very northern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, Sticklepath is a lovely small village offering an excellent base for walkers and cyclists. Some of the wildest parts of the moors lie within easy walking distance, while the larger town of Okehampton is 3 miles away. Sticklepath is home to two pubs and a village shop, offering all the essentials for a self-catered stay. The whole area is a walkers’ paradise for exploring Dartmoor and its beautiful historical villages, towns and churches including legendary stone circles. Nearby attractions include the National Trust's Castle Drogo, Okehampton Castle and Widemouth Bay is only 45 minutes away if you want a change of scenery.
