  • "Pluses: lovely holiday lodge, very comfortable, clean and peaceful."

The lodges in Horizon View have stunning views of the surrounding countryside and hills. Although the grounds are open plan, the lodge felt private because of foliage very effectively screening the decking and garden area from neighbours. Hot tub is a great addition, lovely to relax in each evening with a few glasses of wine. Plenty of amenities within short drives nearby (especially Trago Mills!). Great location for visiting Looe, Polperro, Charlestown and other popular places for sightseeing. Negatives: a bit of a walk to dispose of rubbish bags (perhaps supply bins outside the lodges?). Our dining table had a very sticky residue: we think the varnish had turned 'tacky': wasn't particularly a problem because we simply used a sheet as a tablecloth, but definitely something that needs rectifying. The gorgeous views were blocked a little by a hedge that we think could be pruned lower to maximize said views. We had a lovely holiday, many thanks.

Thank you for leaving us with your feedback Sylvia, we are so pleased you had such a lovely time staying with us!! I have spoken with our grounds team and asked if the hedge near the decking area can be cut back as we would not wish to block our incredible views. We really do hope to be able to welcome you back to our beautiful resorts soon. Best wishes, The Guest Services Team Property Owner

  • "I’ve booked again for next year."

. We had an awesome holiday and found our lodge to be very well equipped and clean. Beds were very comfortable as were the sofa’s.. Hot tub was clean and well maintained.. Overall we cannot find any fault hence we have rebooked for next year. We stayed at your sister sight back in 2022 at Lanreath and enjoyed that place too.. Very highly recommended and the site staff especially Tracey Karn were very friendly and helpful..

It's fantastic news that you loved your stay with us at 9 Horizon View so much, that you have already rebooked to come back again next year! I am so happy that you enjoyed yourselves and loved Southern Halt, we can't wait to see you in 2025! Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "The property was as described and clean and tidy, some of the cooking utensils were a bit tired but overall a well equipped kitchen."

The dining table however was sticky and when we reported this we were told the previous occupants had reported this and despite them and housekeeping cleaning the table is had not improved, and this was not addressed during the week we were there! The other problem was the hot water, three times we lost hot water, once I was able to get it running again but the second time it went cold (we discovered at 23:30) There was nothing I could do, so reported the lack of hot water at 07:10 in the morning on the emergency number, the man answering the phone took the address and my name the said thank you and hung up! 1.5 hours later on one had turned up so I rang again to see what was happening, and was told he had sent an email to reception and maintenance who started work at 09:00, I could have done that, so what was the point of having an emergency number? This was on the Thursday (our last full day), Tracy (the receptionist, who is very good and keeps you informed) phoned to say she had the email and maintenance would be there to fix it by 10:00. We went out for the day and let Tracy know and she phoned us to say it had been fixed. The rest of the day all was good, nice hot water, however when we got up in the morning my 86 year old disabled mother in law told me she had to shower in water that was barely warm and when we checked, we did not have hot water again. As we were leaving that morning I reported the fact to Tracy as we were leaving. But really having a lodge that sleeps 6 people not being able to supply constant hot water for only 4 people (who do not all shower or bath at the same time) is not good enough. It spoilt what should have been a really good week.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback Ken, we do appreciate your time. I am sorry that you were disappointed during your stay with us, as you can imagine we would not wish for any of our guests to have heating or hot water issues, our maintenance team do try very hard in preparing the lodge. Of course, it is very frustrating when despite the problem being resolved by our gas engineer, it reoccurred during your stay. Please be reassured that we have since had this problem rectified, so that it does not affect future guests. We apologise once again for the frustrations caused and we hope that you will consider staying with us at Southern Halt in the future. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

  • "Wonderful lodge!"

Very clean, everything you need and a spectacular view! The hot tub was amazing too! Thank you for the best holiday! Would highly recommend this lodge and the Southern Halt site - beautiful surroundings, well kept and all the staff we spoke to were super friendly and helpful. Golitha Falls is just a 5 minute drive away, absolutely stunning, then finish off with delicious grub at Inkies Smokehouse. A visit to St Nectans Waterfall is well worth a visit, not far from Boscastle. If you have a gluten-intolerant member of the family, Boscastle have the best bakery that does gluten-free pasties, delicious! And the cafe next door does a GF cream tea! Mevagissy, Padstow and Polperro also worth a visit! Just a wonderful place and a wonderful lodge to come back to and relax! Thank you!!

Thank you so much for leaving us your wonderful and informative feedback Aimee, we really do appreciate you taking the time and for recommending so many lovely places to visit. It sounds like you had a very busy holiday and managed to see lots of beautiful parts of Cornwall. I am delighted you loved your lodge and enjoyed using the hot tub too, the view from your decking is indeed stunning! I hope you get the opportunity to come back to see us again in the future, as we would love to welcome you back. Sally, Guest Services, Charteroak Property Owner

The place is perfect and situated in the perfect place for you to go anywhere you want too, from Looe which is 15 minutes away a beautiful town, with great beach, shops, to St Ives 1 hour away. The holiday village is beautiful, private and the hot tub just makes it perfect. The lodge is clean, comes with everything you need, literally all you need is your clothes, the lodge is very spacious, clean and modern. Views are amazing

  • "Beautiful lodge, have stayed twice."

Can't fault it at all. However this time we were quite uncomfortable in the master bedroom. The mattress has seen better days and needs replacing. Probably would return if this was changed in the future. Hot tub was amazing. I taught my son to play the Transformer Chess whilst WiFi was down too!

  • "We had a lovely week in this lodge, very spacious and well laid out, great base for the family to explore the local area, and there is lots to do in local area."

The site itself is very quiet which is nice! and this particular lodge has quite a lot of space outside in comparison with others on site which was great for the kids. We really enjoyed the hot tub and just relaxing outside in this picturesque area of the country. The only negatives we experienced was the master bedroom mattress was very uncomfortable and we both had a bad back after sleeping on it, think this was reported on a recent review also? Only 4 forks for our family of 5 only- minor but easily rectified. The evening we arrived someone had turned the boiler switch off in cupboard which we was unaware of so took a while to get heating on and warm, maybe a better instruction to eliminate this for other guests? Overall my family of 5 really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend! with a few minor improvements could be fantastic. Thanks for letting us stay at your lovely lodge.

We are glad you had a lovely stay with us were able to explore the local area and thank you for your recommendation. We will ensure all the points raised are resolved and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Wonderful surroundings."

Relaxing and peaceful with nature surrounding you. The family enjoyed the hot tub after busy days out. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. The property was very clean. The only issue we had was with the main bedroom bed. The mattress was so bad that my husband and I had bad backs. We stayed for a week and could not wait to get back to our bed. It was a shame because everything else was perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay overall, I will be visiting the property to review the mattress. We agree the surroundings are a wonderful place to relax. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay here."

We think we left a birthday card with a £20 voucher inside on the table and I tried to call multiple times and tried to email and got no where to see if it had been found so not the best customer service. Hot tub was amazing, the lodge in general was very clean and tidy! We did see a couple of mice running in and out of under the lodge, but this didn’t really bother us.
