  • "On arrival on a cold day in December, entering Farleigh Cottage was like walking onto a fridge."

It was icy cold. The heating was off. Having turned the heating on, some 5 hours later the temperature was improving but still not comfortable. The boiler must be very inefficient. Not the warm welcome I wished for. As requested in the visitors information book, upon leaving I turned down the heat setting to 5. Not looking good for the next visitors' arrival! WiFi wouldn't connect despite repeated attempts to connect manually or via the QR code. Cleaning is suspect: a place mat felt tacky and when held up to the light, smears became evident and an obvious food stain showed up on one. There were grubby handprints above the kitchen area radiator and on the wall next to the stairs. Disused bits of material were protruding where it had been stuffed down in between the oven and the wall. On some kitchen cupboard doors the laminated finish is separating. The right-hand cupboard in the bathroom is stained on the inside bottom right corner. A screwdriver was found in the bottom of the shower door frame. A conscientious cleaner would have noticed this if the shower was cleaned. Not the sort of thing you'd want to stab your toes on. No recycling facility. The standard of finish on the interior decoration is not the greatest. Check out the way that sealant/caulking has been applied. I left with the strong impression of an unloved property that receives minimal care. This the second Sykes property I have used and the first one (Ferndale in Lynton, Devon) was everything this one was not. It was excellent, as I said in my review of it. As both properties are rated Outstanding by Sykes, I expected the same level of care in Farleigh Cottage. Clearly this was not the case and I fail to understand where Sykes Outstanding rating came to be. Hopefully the owners will take note and act on these criticisms. Redecorating with thorough cleaning, plus a warm welcome (above 5 degrees!), would lift this well positioned property with the bonus of a parking space from adequate to a genuine Outstanding.

  • "Nice cosy cottage, comfy beds and great shower."

We were a family of 3 with one small child and it was fine. It would be tight for 4 adults but otherwise fine for us! Some of the decor looking a bit tired and chipped but otherwise a good location for our stay and kitchen well equipped.

  • "We all enjoyed our stay at Farleigh Cottage, it is in a great location within a short walk of Looe town (5-8mins walk to the nearest side of Looe Town and 8-10mins walk to beach)."

Looe has fantastic cafés, shops, pubs and restaurants for all to enjoy. We was able to venture out and explore the south coast of Cornwall during our stay. We will definitely be rebooking when we next visit the south Cornish coast.

Thank you for your feedback so glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Farleigh Cottage which is in a perfect location to walk into Looe & explore the surrounding area."

The cottage is cozy & comfortable with everything you could need. We felt it could benefit with a bigger roasting dish rather than baking trays & a larger pan, perhaps a wok. The view from the top bedroom is fantastic, but we did struggle a bit with the sloping ceilings, getting up in the night/ in & out of bed etc but the movement sensitive light on the staircase was a godsend. We didn't mind washing up after ourselves but couldn't understand why there is a washing machine with no outside space/full sized airer to dry the washing, rather than a dishwasher. Our stay at the cottage was with friends & we struggled to park our second car. We expected to pay around £25 at Millpool car park for a weekly ticket but on arrival, found it to be approx £70. However, the car park beyond Millpool car park offers a weekly ticket for £15. You can also park freely at the top of the hill at Hannafore which is a good 20 minute walk from the cottage. Thank you for our lovely stay at the cottage.

Thank you for comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. This is our first year letting Farleigh out so appreciate any feedback to help make quests stay better. The parking as recently gone up in Looe so we are grateful for the one spot outside. Hope you come and stay again. Pam Property Owner

Park up in the designated parking space, and make your way to your new, traditional abode.

Step indoors to be met by the contemporary open-plan living space, where you'll locate a fully-equipped kitchen, dining seating for four guests, and plush sofas to sink into after a day of adventure; on cooler days, light the woodburning stove for a warming glow and feel.

After enjoying supper and a cosy night in, catch some rest from either the twin bedroom, complete with a zip/link feature, and the second-floor double-size bedroom, the latter enjoying breath-taking vistas of the coast.

Awaken to a refreshing shower in the shower room, before heading into the town where you'll find a wealth of shops, pubs, eateries, and attractions to take advantage of.

On your doorstep, enjoy touring the Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol, take a stroll along East Looe Beach, or head to the bustling West Looe Harbour to watch the boats come in.

Outdoor enthusiasts will jump at the opportunity to visit the Adrenalin Quarry adventure park for an afternoon of watersports, a hike through Kilminorth Woods, or a trek up to Golitha Falls and nature reserve.

With plenty of coastal villages and towns to visit, including Seaton and Fowey, be sure to stop off at nearby Polperro, where you can follow the lovely Polperro Heritage Coast path along the beachfront, grab a bag of fish and chips, and end the day with a tour of Polperro Harbour Heritage Museum, before returning home for sundowners.

About the location

LOOE

Polperro 5 miles.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
