  • "Lovely cottage, had everything we needed, the fudge, tea coffee and milk were a nice touch."

Only downside was some of the pillows were lumpy, but the beds very comfortable. We found dirty knives in the drawers, which wasn't too much of a problem, but would be good if the drawers were checked. Only other thing was the sykes cottages Web confirmed check in at 4pm, when we got there, the guy checking over the property was actually there, and said he expected us to arrive at 3pm, so some communication is needed between the owner and sykes, as we would have arrived earlier if we could. Overall though, a really lovely property

So glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry about the knives, very unusual - I've flagged it with the cleaner. Check in has always been 4pm, the handyman was incorrect. New fluffy pillows have been ordered! Hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "We were very happy with Lowena Cottage."

Very clean, comfortable and convenient for the train, buses and town. It has wonderful views. We saw some lovely pink sunsets. Very good outdoor space too. It is our favourite of all the Sykes cottages we have stayed in. My husband said there were no tall glasses when he wanted a cider, only wine or shot ones, a minor detail. We noticed that the log burner had a sign saying not to use it, as it was not in use. Luckily, good weather for us, so not needed.

Wow, what a lovely review, thank you so much! Tall glasses have been ordered :-) Property Owner

  • "The house was very nice and we enjoyed our few days there in spite of the weather."

The major drawback is the extremely steep access to the property - very demanding on foot and impractical by car given the absence of parking (even for a few minutes) coupled with the difficulty of tyre-grip, particularly in the wet. Unfortunately the location issue is something that would prevent us from recommending the property to anyone else.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is clearly stated on the website that the property is up a hill, such is the nature of many Cornish coastal towns. The property is not advertised with parking. On the key information sent to guests we give clear instructions on the best ways to access the cottage, including details of the luggage delivery service, to make life easier! Property Owner

Clean, comfortable and cosy. Owner has taken a lot of time to provide all necessities and more (milk in fridge, teabags and coffee). Very useful information in folder of local area and recommended places to visit. Books to read in wet weather. I would not hesitate to return for a relaxing, home from home break.

  • ""We had a lovely stay at Lowena Cottage."

Nice things about the cottage - comfortable bed, fast-reliable wifi, quiet neighbourhood, great views out the back, easy walk into town, having dishwasher and washing machine was great. Parking wasn't too bad - we parked around 10 minutes walk up the hill on Bodrigan Road for the week. Didn't need car too much, so it was fine up there. Not so nice, but not deal breakers - tv is a bit old and needs updating, shower not the best, but ok, neighbours on either side a bit noisy from time to time, (house music on one side, (4 times during 2 weeks), screaming child and yelling parents on the other, (daily) - I know not controllable), would have been nice to have some outdoor furniture as there were a few nice days whilst we were there. Would stay again as it's a great location for Looe.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. Apologies for the lack of outdoor furniture, a miscommunication meant it was still in storage for winter. Please be assured it is now out and ready for your next visit! Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay - well equipped and maintained cottage with detailed guest information."

10 mins stroll into Looe and in a quaint partially residential area (very friendly neighbours). Vehicle access is up a very, very steep lane and not for the feint hearted - not a place for those who struggle with inclines or steps. We are not particularly fit 50 somethings and it did us good! .I am not sure if details for quad bike luggage service was on the initial booking email, but search for Pete luggage delivery Looe who will take your luggage up for £5-7.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Travel information sent to guests does say the road is steep and should only be attempted by confident drivers. And yes, Pete's Luggage Transfer is on the information sent to guests, as it's a great idea! Hope to see you again. Property Owner

  • "Spent a wonderful few days relaxing at this gorgeous cottage with a wonderful view."

We took our old hound with us, but unfortunately the hills were too much for his old legs. The steepness of the hills were great for our legs but not our poor old dog. Thankfully there was a lovely bath and a great view so we just chilled and relaxed and wandered around Looe which of course is lovely. It would not surprise me to find out the owner has worked in hospitality as every single nook and cranny had been carefully thought through and the place was so cozy and comfy without feeling like you were living with another persons nik naks. Would highly recommend.

  • "Such a lovely cosy cottage – and spotlessly clean!"

Delightfully decorated, well maintained, with everything you need to self-cater. Hills either side are steep but manageable – but this is how you get the amazing views from the decking. The walk from Looe to Polperro is stunning, and there are so many great shops and restaurants in town. Looe train station at the bottom of the hill and is such a picturesque journey alongside the river. We will definitely be back!

  • "I suggest you inspect this property."

The decking is dirty, old and tired. There is at least one loose plank. The garden area is overgrown so not possible to check if secure for the dog so he was confined to the decking area. The “view” is obscured by next door garden. Unless you have a small car, you cannot drive to the property to unload the luggage so you are forced to carry it all up and down a very steep hill. The mattress is very uncomfortable. The cottage was very clean but the problems with the decking (not discussed here) and the uncomfortable bed left us with little choice but to leave after 2 nights.

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, as you did not make anyone aware before you left, we were unable to help. To address the points made: * The decking is cleaned weekly, but it is due a re-varnish. This will happen when there is a free week between guests. * The garden area below is meant to be mainly shrubbery, but is perfectly secure. * The view is still exactly as the website photos - looking out over the valley. The neighbour’s garden has never obscured this view. * As stated in travel directions sent to guests, the road to the property is “steep and narrow road.” Also included is an explanation on parking above or below, and walking to the cottage. * The mattress is of top quality with an added deep-filled luxury topper, and we have never had a complaint. • "Lowenna Cottage is in a great location, is well equipped and very clean."

However, it is half way up a very steep hill and is only suitable for the very fit. Resident parking is at least 15 minutes walk away from the cottage up very steep hills. The stated 5 minute walk to parking stated in the cottage write up is nonsense! The surrounding streets are also unsuitable for a saloon car as they are very narrow. We were also accused by the owners of damaging furniture, which was completely untrue and despite the owners not pursuing this, they made it clear they believed us to be to blame. Put a real blight on the memory of our holiday and I shall never book again. Will also make my feelings known on TripAdvisor.

  • "We enjoyed our holiday and the cottage was great."

We read that parking was an issue and up a steep hill. This property would not be suitable for anyone other than the fittest. Thankfully we were and managed the long steep climb everyday. Most days there was parking at the train station that could be paid for and time extended via your phone. When that was full it was an arduous trek.

  • "We had a really fantastic holiday in Lowena Cottage."

Looe is a great base from which to explore the whole of Cornwall. The cottage, whilst difficult to access due to the steep hills, is really lovely. Our only complaint would be that there are no curtains in the master bedroom, just light blinds that offer little shade from daylight. Really needs blackout blinds or curtains. )Previous guests have pointed this out we noticed). Other than that, the cottage is great, views amazing, very well equipped, extremely comfortable with everything you need for a lovely holiday in Cornwall!

About the location

LOOE

Polperro 5 miles.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.
